My responsibilities, commitments and ambitions piled up into this mass that I felt immeasurably large—until, one day, when I worked in federal contracting, my manager gave me something that is still on the bulletin board over my desk 26 years later, even as I’ve now transformed my career: It’s a postcard picture of Earth. He wanted me to look at Earth and think about the significance of what I was trying to accomplish, and the stress I was feeling, and to do so in the context of what others around the world faced. I started to do this during late nights in my office, when I hadn’t seen my family in days, as I lived on caffeine and cheese nabs. I imagined the good happening to people around the globe. I also imagined the bad—people starving, enduring war, or losing their homes—and then weighed my situation. I would say a prayer for them, and I would remember that my time on Earth was limited. With this perspective and my manager’s encouragement, I went back to school, then took a job with a Fortune 500 firm as a contracts manager and rose to become a director and VP. I have recently started my own consulting business to mentor small companies entering federal contracting. I’ve found that many folks feel they must make a good impression or prove themselves, and that to do so, they cannot admit when they need help. But I can see it in their eyes or hear it in their voices. I tell them what my manager told me: Step away for a few minutes, prioritize your actions, and focus on what your best can be in that moment. That is how I hope to make a difference in their lives. And who knows, maybe beyond what I see, my presence ripples (传开) out to their circles of influence, which reaches others’— creating waves again to those that make up all that blue in my picture of Earth.【语篇解读】 本文是一篇记叙文。 1.What’s the function of paragraph 1?A.To arouse readers’ interest.B.To show the author’s strong emotion.C.To introduce the author’s current status of work.D.To illuminate the author’s ups and downs in his career.√解析 推理判断题。 A。2.Why does the author still keep the postcard picture of Earth?A.Because he needs its navigation when at a loss.B.Because he has gained a favored job with its help.C.Because he was required by his manager to value it.D.Because he views it as a reminder of thinking overall.√解析 推理判断题。根据文章第二段“He wanted me to look at...then weighed my situation.” D。3.What does the underlined word “mentor” in paragraph 3 mean?A.Instruct.B.Absorb.C.Invest.D.Encourage.√解析 词义猜测题。根据文章第三段“I have recently started my own consulting business”以及“entering federal contracting”可知,作者最近开始了自己的咨询业务,以指导进入联邦合同的小公司。 A。4.Which of the following can be the best title of the passage?A.The Influence of My Manager.B.The Ripples of the Big Earth Picture.C.The Stress Coming from Responsibilities.D.The Good and the Bad Happenings in My Career.√解析 标题归纳题。根据最后一段“That is how I hope to make a...all that blue in my picture of Earth.” (2025·沧州高三二模)The United Kingdom is hosting the AI Safety Summit, bringing politicians, computer scientists and big AI company leaders to a site chosen for its symbolism: Bletchley Park, the birthplace of computing and code-breaking (密码破译).During World War Ⅱ, a group of mathematicians, chess masters and other experts gathered at the Victorian country house 72 kilometers northwest of London to start a secret war against Nazi Germany. Their goal was to break a set of constantly changing codes produced by Nazi Germany’s Enigma machine. To do it, Bletchley Park’s wartime scientists—building on work done by Polish code-breakers — developed Colossus, the first programmable digital computer. Some historians say cracking the code helped shorten the war by up to two years.“It has oversimplified its true contribution by describing Bletchley Park as a playground for Turing and other scientists,” said historian Chris Smith, author of The Hidden History of Bletchley Park. “Although it fits into the romantic idea that a group of smart men with a bit of wool and some yards of wire can win the war. In fact, almost 10,000 people worked at Bletchley Park during the war. Three quarters of them were women. It’s basically a factory... Twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. When peace came, the code-breakers returned to civilian life and promised to keep secret about their wartime work. It was not until the 1970s that the work at Bletchley Park became widely known in Britain.”In 1994, the site opened as a museum, after local historians banded together to prevent it from being pulled down to build a supermarket. It was restored to its 1940s appearance, complete with old typewriters, phones and cups—including the one tied to a heater in Hut 8, where Turing led the Enigma team.【语篇解读】 本文是一篇说明文。 5.What can we learn about Colossus?A.It was invented by Nazi Germany.B.It was designed to send secret messages.C.Polish code-breakers also made a contribution to it.D.The project’s goal was to produce the first computer.√解析 细节理解题。根据第二段中“To do it, Bletchley Park’s wartime...first programmable digital computer.” C。6.What did Chris Smith most probably imply?A.Women’s hard work was overlooked.B.The secret should not be kept for so long.C.The computer ought to be more powerful.D.It is silly to say the machine shortened the war.√解析 推理判断题。根据第三段中“It has oversimplified its true...for Turing and other scientists ”和“In fact, almost 10,000 people worked at...Twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week.” A。7.Why is the cup mentioned in the last paragraph?A.To highlight the government’s support.B.To show the perfect restoration of the site.C.To stress Turing’s important role in the project.D.To tell the difficulty in collecting the lost items.√解析 写作意图题。根据最后一段“It was restored to...led the Enigma team.” B。8.What is the author’s purpose in writing the text?A.To advocate women’s equal rights with men.B.To advertise a newly restored computer museum.C.To show the significance of an important meeting.D.To add some background to the AI safety meeting.√解析 写作意图题。通读全文,尤其是根据第一段“The United Kingdom is hosting...of computing and code-breaking (密码破译).” (2025·南阳高三三模)Technology is developing by leaps and bounds.A small device such as a smartphone now has more processing power than rockets to the Moon once had. New tech brings many advantages, making our lives easier and opening up new opportunities. One piece of kit that’s been really taking off recently is the drone. This pilotless mini aircraft, originally developed for aerial (航空的) photography and warfare, is now bringing us benefits closer to home. In the last few years, tech companies such as Amazon, Alphabet and Uber have promised us delivery drones—bringing goods to our doorsteps in a matter of minutes. While progress in developing them has been slow, drones are becoming more and more involved in our life. Drones are helping to connect with and enhance the lives of people in remote locations. In the UK, the Royal Mail wants a fleet of 500 drones to help deliver the mail to faraway communities. Windracers, the company developing the drones, say they can fly in fog and produce 30% fewer emissions than comparable piloted aircraft. And in Coventry in the UK, construction has started on an air center, which will act as a base for police and delivery drones. Urban-Air Port Limited is working with car-maker Hyundai on the mini-airport, known as a skyport.Drones can also play a part in improving the health of millions of people. For example, an incredible development project by the University of South Australia is for drones to eventually be able to survey populations for disease by reading the blood oxygen levels of humans from the air. They’ll also be able to scan for other vital signs, like coughing and a high temperature. It seems that the sky is the limit for what drone technology can achieve. The only thing that sometimes keeps it from working is regulation. Writing for the BBC, Jessica Brown says: “If our skies are to become as crowded as our streets, airspace rules need updating to prevent accidents.”【语篇解读】 本文是一篇说明文。 9.What does the underlined sentence indicate?A.A smartphone is more advanced than rockets.B.The rockets to the moon are very powerful.C.Technology is progressing very rapidly.D.Technology is widely used in daily life.√解析 C [句意理解题。 ,该句的前一句是“Technology is developing by leaps and bounds.”,也就是说,作者用这句话来说明科技在迅速发展。故选C。10.What do we know about drones according to the passage?A.They were initially developed for bringing goods.B.They’ve improved people’s life quality in remote areas.C.They don’t cause any pollution to the environment.D.They can diagnose and treat some diseases from the air.√解析 细节理解题。根据第二段的“Drones are helping to connect with and enhance the lives of people in remote locations.” B。11.What does Jessica Brown mean?A.The development of drones is quite promising.B.It’s a pity that drones are limited to the sky.C.Drones will be likely to cause some accidents.D.Some latest laws are needed to regulate drones.√解析 推理判断题。 D。12.Which is the most suitable title for the passage?A.Drones Are Delivering Benefits Closer to HomeB.Developing Drones Is Facing Many ChallengesC.Drones Are Currently Booming in Every FieldD.Companies Are Competing to Develop Drones√解析 标题归纳题。 故选A。Ⅱ.七选五(2025·湛江高三二模)It’s hard to please everybody all the time. Whatever you do, and no matter how hard you try, there will always be certain people who dislike you. There are often times you can overlook them and go on with your life. Sometimes, however, a person’s negative feelings for you might affect your grades or your ability to meet and get along with other people. 1 . Have an open conversationThis might be awkward, but sometimes the only way to know what is going on or why someone has a problem with you is to speak out straightforwardly. 2 . That means instead of saying “Why don’t you like me? ”, say something like “I feel like there is some tension between us. Is there anything I have done or anything I can do to help? ” 3 If you’ve done something to hurt or offend someone and that is the reason why the person dislikes you, the best course of action is to try to make it right. Clearly say the words, “I’m sorry.” Be sure not to say “I’m sorry you were offended.” or “I’m sorry you felt that way.” or anything else that places the blame on the other person for misinterpreting your intentions. 4 .
