Lisa, 25 years ld, frm Beijing, recently places a number f very unpleasant statements n the Internet regarding the elderly. They include things like “dn’t rely n thers”, “dn’t expect thers t help”, “dn’t be talkative”, and “dn’t be s stubbrn”. The underlying message was that elderly peple shuld nt take advantage f their ld age t demand special favurs frm thers, particularly frm the yung. This f curse flies_in_the_face_f the Chinese traditin f respecting the elderly. But, in my pinin, Lisa’s “requests” might nt be ttally unreasnable. Old peple d smetimes behave like they’re “stubbrn” and “talkative”. Still, the yung wman is rudely insensitive t why the elderly behave that way. As peple get ld, they becme increasingly weakened physically. S it’s natural fr them t ask fr mre help frm thers. As their memries decline, they tend t be talkative because they easily frget what has just been said. The American psychlgists D.R. Atkinsn and G. Hackett said that the brain is characterized by flexibility. It has the ability(mst prnunced up t the age f 12) t change itself as a result f experience. But, as the brain ages, this flexibility decreases. As a result, the elderly are ften inflexible in their ways.
Therefre, ld peple need real care and deserve t be taken care f. Many have devted mst f their lives t the well-being f the family r sciety. Their aging is n reasn fr shwing prejudice(偏见) t them. Accrding t Chinese traditin, ld peple are t be respected. As are Westerners.
I live in the US fr eight years, and in Hng Kng fr 13. Never have I seen r heard anyne wh wuld penly tell ld peple “t behave themselves”.
We may encurage ld peple t be mre self-reliant. But rudely demanding that they d s is ageism. That’s where the difference lies.
51.What des Lisa think f the elderly?
    A. The elderly hate t rely n thers.
    B. The elderly shuld take advantage f their ld age.
    C. They are nt talkative but stubbrn.
    D. The elderly always demand special favurs frm the yung.
52.The underlined part in the first paragraph can be replaced by “______”.
    A. expresses the apparent meaning f
    B. shws disagreement with
    C. deals with the surface meaning f
    D. draws a cnclusin frm
53.What’s the writer’s attitude twards this prblem?
    A. The yung wman is t sensitive t why the elderly behave that way.
    B. The elderly naturally ask fr mre help frm thers, because their brain is characterized by flexibility.
    C. The elderly are ften inflexible in their ways, which makes the yung suffer.
    D. The elderly deserve t be taken care f and we shuldn’t shw ur prejudice because f their aging.
54.The last three paragraphs really want t shw that ______.
    A. we shuld respect the elderly
    B. the peple in the US r Hng Kng respect the ld peple
    C. ld peple shuld be encuraged t be mre self-reliant
    D. different ideas abut the elderly are allwed t exist

    A. Have a clear meaning.
    B. Mve thers deeply.
    C. Have a gd end.
    D. Interest thers.
根据文章最后一段中的“thse wh have a family histry f sleepwalking are mre likely t experience it”可得知答案为B。
根据文章第八段最后一句“But Siddiqui says that it is even mre ntable fr the amunt f cmplex actins the wman had t take in rder t write the e-mails.”

    I_am_a_Senir_Three_student._Recently_we_have_carried_ut_a_survey—“T_whm_d_yu_g_when_in_truble?”_The_results_are_as_fllws.
61% f the students surveyed select friends r schlmates as their ideal listeners when they have truble, the reasn f which is that they are in the same age grup and have a better understanding f each ther. Anther 22% chse teachers and parents t talk t. They suggest that teachers and parents are rich in life and educatinal experience. Nevertheless, there are als 17% wh dn’t share their trubles at all. They say that their trubles are nne f thers’ business. They find it hard t get alng with thers.
It is nt easy t reach definite cnclusins based n such a survey example. Hwever, sme general cmments can be made. It seems clear frm the respnse that sme students lack cmmunicatin with thers and teachers and parents need t play a mre imprtant rle in their lives.
