      I.Grammar and Vcabulary (每题1分;共20分)
      Sectin A
Directins: After reading the passage belw, fill in the blanks t make the passage cherent and grammatically crrect. Fr the blanks with a given wrd, fill in each blank with the prper frm f the given wrd; fr the ther blanks, use ne wrd that best fits each blank.
First published n Octber 15, 1952, “Charltte’s Web” is a ppular children’s bk written by well-knwn American authr E. B.White and 1 (illustrate)by Garth Williams that deals with themes f the nature f friendship, lss, fate, acceptance, and renewal. The stry centers n a pig named Wilbur and the unlikely but deep friendship 2 shares with an uncmmnly talented spider named Charltte.
While it’s nrmal in the curse f events n a farm fr pigs 3 (kill)when they reach a certain size and age, clever Charltte wrks ut a scheme t keep Wilbur frm his fate by weaving wrds int her web t create what amunts t a ne-pig publicity campaign. By prmting Wilbur t celebrity status, Charltte ultimately saves him 4 his date with the butcher’s knife.
The ending f the “Charltte’s Web” is bittersweet, hwever, 5 while Wilbur survives, Charltte des nt. But even Charltte’s passing is a lessn-fr Wilbur and thse reading his stry-abut the nature f death and renewal.
Death and destiny are bth themes that the bk explres. While Charltte is willing t help Wilbur avid a destiny that’s being impsed n him by utside frces beynd his cntrl, she als understands that sme fates are inevitable: All living creatures are brn, 6 (have)a life cycle, and die. Charltte accepts her rle in this natural circle withut regret.
Charltte helps Wilbur realize that immrtality is nt abut living frever, but rather, 7 (ensure)that new generatins will fllw. She als helps him understand that lve and friendship are nt fixed in quantity. While we may lse a friend, new friendships can cme alng, nt as replacements fr 8 we’ve lst, but as blessings t build n what we’ve learned.
“Charltte’s Web” gt its inspiratin frm true experiences that authr E. B.White had n his farm in Maine, 9 he penned the bk and lived until his death in 1985.While the authr claims that the bk 10 never be cnsidered a mral tale, certain messages related t mral principles, r rights and wrngs, are bviusly established in “Charltte’s Web”.
      Sectin B
Directins: Fill in each blank with a prper wrd chsen frm the bx. Each wrd can be used nly nce. Nte that there is ne wrd mre than yu need.
Why dn’t yu get a prper jb?
Tday’s 14-and 15-year-lds are ambitius. They are ptimistic abut their 11 , but their career ideas are rather vague. A jb fr life is nt in their vcabulary; neither is a dead-end but secure jb that is bring but pays the bills. Almst half the bys surveyed expected that their hbbies wuld lead them int the right srt f jb, while mst girls seemed determined t 12 traditinally female careers such as nursing.
In the past, this might have cunted as bad news. But the wrld has changed. The glbal ecnmy is nt kind t yesterday’s 13 and dependable wrker. The future belngs t quick-thinking peple wh are resurceful, ambitius and can take the 14 . This means that a 14-year-ld wh sees her wrking future as a kind f adventure, t be made up as she ges alng, is nt necessarily being 15 .
Hwever, she has t have the training and 16 t help her develp the right skills fr tday’s market; nt the rigid (死板的) preparatin fr a wrkplace that disappeared 20 years ag. S what is t be dne? Agd first step wuld be t change the way in which schls prepare yung peple fr adult life. The educatin system is becming less 17 and mre bsessed (无法摆脱) with traditinal skills at just the time that the emplyment market is ging in the ppsite directin.
Accurate, up-t-date infrmatin n new jbs and qualificatins can help guidance cunsellrs t help their students. Yung peple need slid infrmatin n the srt f training they need t 18 the career f their dreams. Als, a little bit f encuragement can g a lng way.
What, then, can we as parents d t help them? The best thing is t frget all the advice that ur parents gave us, and step int ur teenager’s shes. Once we’ve dne that, it’s easier t see hw imprtant it is that they learn hw t be 19 and resurceful. Give them the curage t fllw their dreams—hwever dd they might sund right nw. In a wrld that ffers ecnmic security t almst n ne, 20 is a terrible thing t waste.
      II.Reading Cmprehensin (共45分。 21-35每题1分;36-50每题2分)
      Sectin A
Directins: Fr each blank in the fllwing passage there are fur wrds r phrases marked A. B.C and D. Fill in each blank with the wrd r phrase that best fits the cntext
Scial media can be a cnvenient way t extend yur netwrk, staying in tuch with yur grandma r sharing phts f yur new puppy. 21 , scial media can be terrible fr yur health. It’s ur 22 f it that’s ut f cntrl.
British evlutinary psychlgist Rbin Dunbar develped the idea that 150 peple is the maximum number f meaningful cnnectins anyne can have. Yu may have 800 friends n Wechat, but yu’re nt 23 them in persn. Yur QQ cnnectins may be vast, but hw many f them d yu have 24 interactins with?
If yu’re using scial media t feel mre cnnected, a recent study published in the American Jurnal f Health Prmtin suggests that it’s nt 25 , and it als brught abut unfavrable cnnectins and even depressin. Psitive interactins n scial media dn’t help peple feel 26 . Negative interactins, n the ther hand, bring mre feelings f sadness. The same ges fr 27 , which scial media encurages. Anther study, published by the American Psychlgical Assciatin, shws that cmparing yurself t thers thrugh scial media als prduces 28 effects, leading t symptms f depressin.
Reaching fr yur cell phne as a mental break is als a (n) 29 idea. Research by Rutgers University cmpared participants in the prcess f cmpleting a task wh tk a break with their cell phnes, with paper and pencils, and wh tk n break at all. Thse wh used their cell phnes during their break slved 22% fewer prblems and tk 19% lnger t cmplete their tasks than thse under the ther tw 30 .
S hw shuld yu 31 yur scial media usage?
First, knw yur time and 32 f use. Use the tracking functin n yur device t find ut hw much yu’re using it and what yu’re using it fr. After this, get away frm yur device unless yu have t use it. Tugh as it might be, turn ff and tune int the wrld arund yu.
Then, be in charge f yur 33 , rather than let it be in charge f yu. Yur phne’s rings r vibratins (震动) dn’t mean yu must respnd t them. Remind yurself that yu’re in charge, nt yur device r the peple n the ther end f it wh’ve just cntacted yu.
Finally, cnsider using yur device as a (n) 34 builder. Use yur apps t find yur friends and make yur dinner reservatin s yu can catch up face-t-face in yur favrite restaurant, where yu’ll keep yur phne ut f sight.
When yu’re in cntrl f yur 35 , scial media becmes a tl t enrich yur life but nt a distractin that makes yu feel miserable.

Rakiya and her mther had never frgtten hw kind the plice had been after their wn family member was killed. “The detectives were really there fr us,” Sims says. “They came t see my kids. They were fathers, therapists. They were everything.” Rakiya wanted t give their lttery winning t Officer Mss’s family. Her mm readily agreed.
On July 10, Sims called the plice and made an annymus (匿名的) dnatin. Mved by her generus expressin f thanks, the fficers did what they d best --they tracked Sims dwn. When she explained the family’s mtivatin, the fficers culd hardly believe it. “With her current financial hardship, we encuraged her t keep the mney,” the department later explained. “She refused, saying the fficer’s family needed it and plice needed t knw they were supprted.”
By then, that feeling f supprt was mutual. The plice set up a GFundMe page fr Sims, whm they called “The Wman with the Heart f Gld.” Their gal was $10,000. Everybdy lves a fat pay rise. Yet pleasure at yur wn can vanish if yu learn that a clleague has been given a bigger ne. Indeed, if he has a reputatin fr slacking(懈怠的), yu might even be utraged. Such behaviur is regarded as “all t human,” with the underlying assumptin that ther animals wuld nt be capable f this finely develped sense f grievance(不满). But a study by Sarah Brsnan and Frans de Waal f Emry University in Atlanta, Gergia, which has just been published in Nature, suggests that it is all t mnkey, as well.
The researchers studied the behaviur f female brwn capuchin mnkeys. They lk cute. They are gd-natured, c-perative creatures, and they share their fd readily. Abve all, like their female human cunterparts, they tend t pay much clser attentin t the value f “gds and services” than males.
Such characteristics make them perfect candidates fr Dr. Brsnan’s and Dr. de Waal’s study. The researchers spent tw years teaching their mnkeys t exchange tkens fr fd. Nrmally, the mnkeys were happy enugh t exchange pieces f rck fr slices f cucumber. Hwever, when tw mnkeys were placed in separate but adjining chambers, s that each culd bserve what the ther was getting in return fr its rck, their behaviur became markedly different.
In the wrld f capuchins, grapes are luxury gds (and much preferable t cucumbers). S when ne mnkey was handed a grape in exchange fr her tken, the secnd was reluctant t hand hers ver fr a mere piece f cucumber. And if ne received a grape withut having t prvide her tken in exchange at all, the ther either tssed her wn tken at the researcher r ut f the chamber, r refused t accept the slice f cucumber. Indeed, the mere presence f a grape in the ther chamber (withut an actual mnkey t eat it) was enugh t induce resentment in a female capuchin.
The researchers suggest that capuchin mnkeys, like humans, are guided by scial emtins. In the wild, they are a c-perative, grup-living species. Such c-peratin is likely t be stable nly when each animal feels it is nt being cheated. Feelings f righteus indignatin(愤慨), it seems, are nt the preserve f peple alne. Refusing a lesser reward cmpletely makes these feelings abundantly clear t ther members f the grup. Hwever, whether such a sense f fairness evlved independently in capuchins and humans, r whether it stems frm the cmmn ancestr that the species had 35 millin years ag, is, as yet, an unanswered questin.
43.In the pening paragraph, the authr intrduces his tpic by ___________.
      A.making a cnclusinB.justifying an assumptin
      C.explaining a phenmennD.making a cmparisn
44.The statement “it is all t mnkey” (Last line, Paragraph 1) implies that __________.
A.mnkeys are als utraged by slack rivals
B.feeling angry abut unfairness is als mnkeys’ nature
C.mnkeys, like humans, tend t be jealus f each ther
D.n animals ther than mnkeys can develp such emtins

C.will nt be c-peratin if feeling cheated
D.are unhappy when separated frm thers

B.Human indignatin evlved frm an uncertain surce.
C.Animals usually shw their feelings penly as humans d.
D.Cperatin amng mnkeys remains stable nly in the wild.
      Sectin C
Directins: Cmplete the fllwing passage by using the sentences in the bx Each sentence can nly be used nce. Nte that there are tw sentences mre than yu need.
Hw sme friendships last — and thers dn’t
In a 2008 study, psychlgists asked participants t rate the steepness (陡度) f a hill. Thse wh were accmpanied by a friend judged the hill t be less steep than peple wh were alne. This is just ne f many ways friendships can change hw we see and mve thrugh the wrld. Friendships can bst ur academic perfrmance, help us deal with setbacks, and even imprve ur health.
47 If yu struggle with appraching new peple, yu are far frm alne. In a series f studies, participants had cnversatins f varying lengths with strangers. Afterward, they were asked t estimate hw much they thught each stranger liked them. Acrss the bard, participants rated their wn likability much lwer than thers had actually rated them. 48 Yu may even want t enter these cnversatins assuming that the ther persn will like yu. Psychlgists find that when peple expect t be well-liked, they ften unknwingly cme acrss as warmer and friendlier.
Next, what’s happening when relatinships grw? Psychlgists have identified tw key features: cmpaninship and clseness. Cmpaninship is defined as the understanding that increases between peple with similar hbbies, interests, r values. Smetimes, just being in the same class r team is enugh t build this cnnectin. Clseness, n the ther hand, lks different fr every relatinship. 49 But simply telling a friend abut yur day r sharing yur interests can help build clseness t.
While every friendship develps n its wn timeline, cnsistency can help. This can include sticking t plans, chatting regularly, and remembering the things that are imprtant t each ther. Yet even the clsest friendships face challenges. This is especially true fr teenage friendships. Relatinships may als weaken when ne friend can’t supprt the ther thrugh hard times. The mst surefire way t deal with these prblems is t talk abut them. These cnversatins can be tugh and awkward. 50
A.But if they’re apprached in the right way, they can strengthen friendships in the lng run.
B.S, befre meeting new peple, remember that thers like yu mre than yu think.
C.It might mean supprting each ther thrugh difficult times r feeling cmfrtable sharing yur thughts and feelings.
D.And the mre friends yu make, the mre cnfident yu’ll likely feel.
E.Fr example, there might be a situatin that puts tw friends in cmpetitin.
F.It’s clear that friendships are imprtant, but making and maintaining friends isn’t always easy.
      III.Summary Writing(共10分)
51.Directins: Read the fllwing three passages. Summarize the main idea and the main pint(s) f the passage in n mre than 60 wrds. Use yur wn wrds as far as pssible.
Why D Yu Find It S Hard t Nt Multitask?
Mst f us d multitasking almst daily. But it’s time t change that. Let’s take the smartphne fr example. On average yu check yur phne 110 times a day—that means yu’re spending 23 days every year glued t yur smartphne! Hw prductive d yu think that makes yu? Habits encuraging yu t multitask make yu unprductive.
But it’s hard t let g f these habits because yu’ve cnditined yur brain t send misleading signals t yur bdy. Research has shwn that when yu multitask “successfully”, yu activate the reward mechanism in yur brain that releases dpamine, the happy hrmne. Yu feel s gd that yu believe yu’re being effective and this further encurages yur multitasking habit. This rush can als make yu verly ptimistic, less careful abut the wrk yu d and mre likely t make mistakes, Multitaskers basically get addicted t this rush which leads them t believe they are being effective when in fact they’re nt.
Since ur brains can nly effectively fcus n ne thing at a time, mntasking is the way fr yu t accmplish mre in less time. Research has suggested yu’re 50% quicker n average t accmplish a task if yu mntask, and yu’re als 50% less likely t make errrs. S it’s a win-win fr everyne! Yu’ll als be able t appreciate things n a deeper level and get mre enjyment frm them when yu’re fcused.
Nw yu’re prbably desperate t find ut hw t get rid f this multitasking habit s yu can find real prductivity. There is n easy answer. Yu simply have t cmmit t it and have the self discipline t stick t ne task at a time. Just say t yurself: When I walk, I walk. When I talk t smene, I talk t smene. Fcus n the ne thing yu are ding. And like that, yu’ve mastered mntasking
