Being nline shuld imprve ur lives, nt cntrl them. If yu always feel yu need t check yur mbile phnes, it is prbably time t take a break. T much time nline can make yur study mre difficult and it is bad fr yur health.
It is imprtant t remember that if yu are cnstantly taking phts r chatting nline, it can be hard t keep track f what is ging n arund yu. This might have a serius influence n yur cnnectins with the peple beside yu, even if yu dn’t want t make them feel like yu are nt interested in them. Take breaks frm the apps (应用程序) and games. Yu dn’t need t stp using them, just trying turning ff ntificatins during study hurs, r setting time limits.
Yu can cnsider which nline activities yu can d ffline. Take a careful lk at what nline activities can becme ffline activities. Fr example, an nline game can becme in-persn with a friend r family member instead. Of curse, nt everything has t be ffline r nline all the time.
It is gd fr yu t set bundaries (界限) with yur friends. If yur friend calls yu in the middle f the night, r messages yu when yu are ding yur hmewrk, and yu dn’t see their messages until yu are back nline.
Habits can be hard t break, but we can retrain ur brains. Smetimes, just paying attentin t the pssible influences can help us knw when it is time t make sme changes. Talk with smene abut it. Talking abut hw yu feel with a family member r yur friend may help yu wrk ut a plan fr breaking ld habits. They can als encurage yu t stick t the plan.

In 2019, American kids aged 8 t 12 spent an average f 4 hurs and 44 minutes n screens every day. By 2021, that average had increased t 5 hurs and 33 minutes per day. D kids need help putting their devices dwn, r can they decide n their wn?
There are a lt f research studies shw that t much screen time can have a negative effect (效果) n peple. Therefre, sme cuntries try t make peple stay away frm devices. Peple living in a village in India have agreed t turn ff their televisins and phnes fr ne and a half hurs every evening. A cmmunity uses the siren (汽笛) sunds t remind peple t turn ff the televisins and phnes at 19:00. At 20:30, a secnd siren sund rings t shw that screen-free time is ver. In this way, peple can have screen-free time, which is called a “digital detx”. It is when a persn stps using digital devices fr a fixed time.
Sme peple say that taking a break frm electrnic devices is gd. Screen-free time allws kids t cnnect t the utside wrld and with family and friends. Seeing peple face t face helps t cure (治愈) lneliness. Kids can be mre active if they are nt n their phnes r watching TV all the time, which is beneficial (有益的) t health.
Hwever, there are peple wh hld different ideas. Digital devices allw friends and family far away frm each ther t stay in tuch. Besides, screen time can be valuable-kids can read great bks, discver interesting facts r learn abut imprtant things happening in the wrld.
Is there a way t find a balance between digital devices and ur life? I think s. The gd way is t cut dwn kid’s usage f digital devices by setting time limits. What’s mre, if parents ffer kids activities they find valuable, such as sprts and art activities they enjy, they will be less likely t spend time n scial media. Once they becme used t these activities, they will feel surprised hw little they think abut their phne.
1.The underlined phrase “digital detx” in paragraph 2 means “________”.
A.the place t reduce the screen time

Once there was a very ppular sng called Which D yu Prefer, Crying r Smiling? It is cmmn that peple always think crying is a sign f sadness. But it is nt always the truth. When babies are hungry, they will cry t shw their feelings and get tasty fd. Then babies feel like being n clud nine and f curse stp crying.
We als knw that many peple may think crying is a bad thing and it may be bad fr their health. Hwever, in fact, smetimes it is healthy t have sme tears. Accrding t the studies, sme health prblems have smething t d with nt crying enugh. Smetimes peple need t cry mre because it helps them t get well.
Different cultures have different ideas abut crying. The peple in Indnesia think that crying—unless dne by a persn wh has lst a clse friend—is unhealthy and that it can cause health prblems. In sme ther cultures, peple usually cry tgether when they are afraid f smething and in times f sadness.
Peple have been studying crying fr a lng time and here are tw interesting studies abut crying.
A study f 5,000 peple in 35 cuntries made by Prfessr Ad Vingerhets fund that wmen usually cried between 30 and 64 times a year while men usually cried 6 t 17 times a year. Vingerhcts thinks that wmen’s higher prlactin levels (催乳素水平) may cause wmen t cry mre. Prlactin levels are especially higher when wmen are having babies.
Besides that, accrding t anther study, when 150 wmen were watching the film Steel Magnlias, scientists fund 22 percent f them cried and the thers didn’t. Thse wh cried felt mre sadness fr a lng time. The study said crying can make peple sadder, and it tk peple lnger t get well.
Crying may make peple feel better nly if it helps with their prblems. Studies shw cmfrt frm a friend des make peple feel that crying is a gd idea. S next time yu dn’t feel gd, yu can talk with yur friend and cry ut t make yurself feel better. Try t have a gd cry!

Scientists have studied the full genetic (基因的) infrmatin f mre than 18,000 cancer samples. They fund new infrmatin abut the patterns f mutatins (突变) , r changes, which culd help dctrs prvide better treatment.
Their study, which appeared recently in the publicatin Science, is nt the first t d such a cmplete genetic study f cancer samples. But n ne has ever used such a large sample size.
Serena Nik-Zainal f the University f Cambridge was part f the team that did the research. She said this was “the largest chrt (群体) in the wrld. It is extrardinary.”
Over 12,000 samples in the study came frm patients recruited (招募) by Britain’s Natinal Health Service. They were part f a prject t study whle genmes (基因组) frm peple with cmmn cancers and rare diseases. The rest f the data came frm existing cancer data sets.
Researchers were able t study such a large number because f the same imprvements in technlgy that recently permitted scientists t cmplete the map f the entire human genme.
Andrew Futreal, a genmic expert at MD Andersn Cancer Center in Hustn, was nt invlved in the study. He said the study gave scientists sme knwledge f the destructive (破坏性的) frces that caused cancer.
Cancer is a disease f the genme r full set f instructins fr running cells. It happens when changes in a persn’s DNA cause cells t grw and divide uncntrllably. DNA is a substance (物质) that carries the genetic infrmatin in the cells f living things, like a human. In 2020, there were abut 19 millin new cancer cases wrldwide.
Fr the study, researchers lked at 19 different kinds f cancer in the human bdy. It identified 58 new “mutatinal signatures”, r pieces f evidence leading t the causes f cancer. Nik-Zainal said researchers als cnfirmed 51 f mre than 70 previusly reprted mutatin patterns. Sme arise (出现) because f prblems within a persn’s cells; thers are caused by ultravilet (紫外线的) radiatin, tbacc smke, r chemicals.
Knwing mre f them “helps us t understand each persn’s cancer mre precisely,” which can help guide treatment, Nik-Zainal said.
Genetic sequencing, the prcess used t study the makeup f a cell, is already being included in cancer care. It is part f the grwing mve tward persnalized medicine, r care based n a patient’s genes and specific disease. Nw dctrs will have much mre infrmatin t draw frm when they lk at individual cancers.
T help dctrs use this infrmatin, researchers develped a cmputer prgram that will let them find cmmn mutatin patterns and seek ut rare nes. Nik-Zainal said dctrs culd suggest a treatment based n a special pattern.
Futreal said the data can als shw dctrs what tends t happen ver time when a patient develps a cancer with a certain mutatin pattern. This will help dctrs give earlier treatment and hpefully stp the develping disease.
1.Which f the fllwing statement is true?
A.Scientists have studied the full genetic infrmatin f mre than 18,000 cancer samples.
B.They fund new infrmatin abut the patterns f mutatins, r changes, that culd help dctrs prvide better treatment.
C.Their study, which appeared recently in the publicatin Science, is nt the first t d such a cmplete genetic study f cancer samples.
      D.All f the abve.
2.What can we infer frm the passage?
A.Cancer is a kind f disease that happens when DNA in cells grw r divide.
B.Sme cancers arise because f prblems within a persn’s cells.
C.Sme cancers are caused by ultravilet radiatin, tbacc smke, r chemicals.
D.Genetic sequencing has been used in medical treatment.
3.Which is the best title f the passage?

Is there a way t quickly remember infrmatin just befre taking an exam? Walking backward might be a gd idea. Scientists say this activity can help peple imprve their shrt-term memry (记忆).
Researchers asked 114 vlunteers in an experiment t watch a vide. After watching the vide, the vlunteers were split (分成) int three grups. One grup was tld t walk 10 meters frward. The secnd grup walked 10 meters backward. The third grup kept still in ne place. All three grups were then asked 20 questins abut what they saw in the vide. The scientists fund that the backward-walking grup gt tw mre answers crrect n average than the ther tw grups.
This suggests that the cncepts (概念) f time and space are imprtant t the frmatin f memries. When yu, walk backward, yu see things frm a different angle (角度). This difference helps peple remember things that happened in the past mre easily. When yu walk backward, yu have t pay clser attentin t yur surrundings t avid accidents. By ding s, yur senses are sharpened (敏锐的). As a result, yu becme mre attuned t yur envirnment.
And walking backward is nt just gd fr ur brains. It is als gd fr the rest f ur bdies. Cmpared t walking frward. walking backward is mre challenging. This can help us imprve ur fitness because walking backward uses mre energy in a shrt time and burns mre calries (卡路里).
Walking backward is less stressful fr ur knees. It culd be helpful fr peple wh ften have pain in their knees. Walking backward als keeps ur spines (脊柱) strng, which can help t ease (缓解) pain in the lwer back. This might be why many ld peple like walking backward.
Next time when yu want t imprve yur memry, why nt try walking backward? It is as simple as it sunds, but remember t “watch” where yu are ging and wh r what yu may knck int.
1.What’s the writer’s purpse in mentining the experiment in Paragraph 2?
A.T shw walking backward can help imprve shrt-term memry.
B.T explain hw memries are frmed in ur brains while walking.
C.T pint ut walking backward can keep us in excellent cnditin.
D.T share scientists’ discvery n walking and watching vides.
2.The wrds “becme mre attuned t” in Paragraph 3 are clsest in meaning t ________.
      A.becme pruder fB.understand better f
C.take a mre active part inD.get mre interested in
      3.What’s the passage mainly abut?
A.The differences in walking habits.B.The suggestins n keeping healthy.
      C.The advantages f walking backward.D.The imprtance f imprving memry.

Research shws that the discvery f explanets (planets utside ur slar system) has changed science fictin (小说). Nw, bks and mvies present these planets mre exactly, making science fictin mre imprtant than befre.
Imagine learning abut stars in a classrm. Yu culd start with cmplex (复杂的) pictures and facts, r yu culd watch the mvie Star Wars where Luke Skywalker sees tw suns frm his hme planet, Tatine. Which will mre easily awaken the interest f a sleepy high schl class?
Science fictin has always caught ur attentin and it has inspired (激励) scientists t g fr their dreams. Fr this reasn, it is smetimes used t cmmunicate science t the public, even cmplex ideas. T be sure that this is a useful way, it is necessary t understand hw science fictin shws actual science.
Emma Jhanna Puranen and her team frm the University f St Andrews and the Austrian Academy f Sciences did sme research, studying a lt f science fictin wrks, including nvels, mvies, TV shws, pdcasts, and vide games t see hw science fictin reflects (反映) real scientific discveries abut explanets. “Mst stries that are set in space will finally have a scene (场景) n an explanet,” explains Puranen. “The reasn fr using explanets is that there was a huge change in ur scientific understanding in 1995 when the first explanet arund a sun-like star was discvered.”
“Traditinally in science fictin, mstly there have been Earth-like planets,” explains Puranen. “But what has changed since the discvery f real explanets is that the fictinal explanets have actually becme a bit less Earth-like.”
Accrding t real science, many explanets are very different frm Earth and ften nt in the “Gldilcks zne”, where cnditins are friendlier t life as we knw it. “I can guess that maybe writers f science fictin are reading all these headlines abut wrlds that are cvered in lava r where it’s raining diamnds, which yu see in the media,” says Puranen.
Science fictin, in a way, reflects the knwledge and discveries f its time. This makes it a valuable tl fr science cmmunicatin. It can intrduce peple t new scientific ideas in an interesting and understandable way.
This research highlights the cnnectin between scientific discveries and creativity. While explring the universe, science fictin can develp curisity (好奇心) and make further research pssible, making the subject f explanets an imprtant example f hw science and imaginatin imprve each ther.
1.The writer mentined the mvie Star Wars t ________.
A.explain what an explanet is like in a humrus way
B.present the result f the latest research abut explanets
C.shw an interesting way f sharing science with everyne
D.intrduce a ppular scientific mvie by a famus directr
2.Hw has science fictin changed after the discvery f the first explanet?
A.It gives mre attentin t Earth.
      B.It describes the Earth differently.
C.Science fictin has lst interest in explaining explanets.
D.Explanets in science fictin have becme less Earth-like.
3.The wrds “Gldilcks zne” in Paragraph 6 mst prbably mean ________.
