Many kids find it hard t stay fcused n their lessns fr lng. Research shws that mvement breaks help students learn better—and it desn't take much. Accrding t a study in Psychlgy f Sprt & Exercise, just a few minutes f activity can imprve classrm perfrmance.
Lead scientist Eric Drllette, an exercise psychlgist at the University f Nrth Carlina, wanted t find a kind f exercise that culd fit int a classrm setting with limited space. Early studies had tested 20 t 30 minutes f mderate-intensity (中等强度的) exercise, but they culdn't be dne in a classrm and wuld take t much time away frm lessns. Drllette's team designed a nine-minute high-intensity interval exercise (HIIE). Kids perfrmed mves like jumping jacks (开合跳), squats and high knees—exercising fr 30 secnds, resting fr 30 secnds, and then repeating.
The study tested 25 children aged 9 t 12. Each child visited the lab three times, taking part in three different activities: ding the nine-minute HIIE, riding a statinary (静止的) bike, and watching an educatinal vide. After each activity, the children cmpleted tasks testing attentin, language skills, and math.
Drllette's team shwed that after the high-intensity interval exercise (HIIE), children's brains became mre efficient at recgnizing mistakes. Language perfrmance als imprved after the HIIE. Hwever, fr math, the kids perfrmed a bit less well than after less-intense exercise. "That culd be because f tiredness." Drllette says. Tasks that require higher-level thinking, such as math, seem t be the first nes affected by tiredness.
Experts find the results exciting. Lauren Raine, an exercise scientist at Nrtheastern University, nted that shrt, high-intensity exercise breaks in classrms might imprve learning perfrmance and help students deal with mistakes mre effectively.
Drllette als believes such exercise culd benefit teens. An veractive mistake respnse is cnnected with mental (精神的) health prblems, which have becme mre cmmn in high schl. By helping calm this respnse, high-intensity exercise may supprt mental well-being.
"Being active can help with a lt f things that are ging n in sciety," Drllette said, encuraging students t find chances t stand up and get mving.

A.Its results.B.Its prcess.
C.Its challenges.D.Its limitatins.
29.What can we learn frm the passage?

B.The kids did activities instead f tests in the lab.
C.Tiredness may influence the kids' math perfrmance.
D.The HIIE prgram mainly benefits the kids' learning.

In the classic stry The Little Engine That Culd, a small train wrked hard up a steep hill, repeating, "I think I can." This stry shws hw much sciety values perseverance—sticking with smething even when it's hard.
But researchers suggest that smetimes, instead f always setting new gals, we shuld ask: "What d I n lnger need?" Past gals may n lnger fit ur lives. They might be t hard, t expensive, r simply nt what we want anymre. Hwever, quitting ( 放 弃 ) is ften lked dwn upn, s letting g can be even harder than persevering.
Why We Stick with Past Gals
Scientists are nw studying why quitting is s difficult. One reasn is the____"sunk-cst" bias—we find it hard t give up smething after we've spent time, mney, r effrt n it.
In ne nline game, researchers had ver 3,500 players push clred buttns t get pints. Sme buttns gave pints mre ften than thers, but players weren't tld which. They culd turn t a new clr at any time but culdn't g back. Mst players stuck with a clr far lnger than they shuld have, even thugh making a change wuld have been smarter. "Even in this unpaid game, peple wrked hard t mve n," said researcher Rachit Dubey. In real life, where emtins are invlved, it's even harder.
Hw t Quit in a Healthy Way
S if quitting is smetimes the best chice, hw d we d it? Studies shw that why we quit is the key pint. A 2022 study fllwed ver 900 peple wh were giving up lng-term gals. Thse wh quit because thers pressured them ften felt "stuck" (被困住的) and dubted their decisin. But thse wh quit because the gal n lnger fit fund it easier t mve n.
Psychlgist Andreea Gavrila cmpares quitting t a breakup. "It's very messy," she says. Quitting a gal can take mnths r even years. But if there's a mment yu decide frm yur inner mtivatin (内在的动机) t d it, there'll be the prcess f mving n.
A Different Kind f Curage
We ften think f perseverance as a strength. But smetimes, hlding n des mre harm than gd. Letting g f a gal yu've utgrwn can free up mental space and energy fr new dreams. Finding a new way frward may first require the curage t say, "I think I can't."

32.Which f the fllwing wuld the researchers agree with?

B.Peple shuld stick with their lng-held gals in life.
C.Quitting based n inner drive helps peple mve n.
D.Outer pressure is the best reasn fr peple t quit a gal.
