Perhaps yu’ve seen a giant sculpture f a frk, and wndered hw n earth is this art? I’ll bet yu didn’t dare ask it ut lud fr fear f lking awkward. Luckily fr us,Bianca Bsker is willing t dive int the art wrld in Get the Picture, where she explres the spiritual richness art itself prvides.
She sets ut t develp what art lvers call an “eye”, keen perceptin t separate the “gd” art frm the “bad”. She finds ut that the art wrld can be tugh fr peple wh can’t affrd art

things and fcus n thers. It allws us t take mental shrtcuts and dismiss certain visual details t rapidly prcess ur chatic envirnment.
One functin f art, Bsker wrte, is remving this filter t re-examine the wrld with
renewed wnder. Art has the pwer t heal, a fact that’s seized upn by dctrs wh will ask the patients t visit art museums. Over tw dzen medical schls require students t study paintings t avid jumping t cnclusins. Instead f lecturing readers frm an authritative angle, Bsker lets them witness at eye level her grwing clarity f art’s functin.
In the end, readers dn’t get a cmplete answer t humankind’s fascinatin art.Bsker
instead ffers her wn interpretatin: Art is a way t find beauty and heighten ur appreciatin f life.In the prcess f revealing the truth f an “eye”, Bsker argues that art is everywhere and can be anything, as lng as we’re pen t letting what we see mve us. By the last page, yu’ll be
frced t revisit that frk sculpture and behld the artwrk with a fresh eye.

When wrestling with a mral dilemma, a persn may reach a decisin nt nly by thinking thrugh the prblem but als by sensing physical signals frm their bdy, a new study suggests. The study supprts the idea that these bdily reactins frm part f a feedback lp (反馈循环) that helps guide peple in decisin-making.
Previus studies have suggested that siding with the majrity in a mral dilemma culd
help take sme stress ff the brain, and the new study seems t agree with that idea. “Recent
theries suggest that ur brains are designed t minimize the use f physical resurce while
maintaining survival,” study c-authr Hackjin Kim said. “One way t d this is t learn thers’
expectatins t avid scial cnflict,” Kim suggested. Cmbining these ideas, Kim and clleagues prpsed that peple wh are aware f their bdily feedback signals shuld use that infrmatin t keep their decisin-making in line with thers’ expectatins.
In their study, the team tested this assumptin by presenting participants with mral
dilemmas and asking them t chse between tw decisins — ne “utilitarian,” which priritized (优先考虑) minimizing harm fr the majrity, and ne “dentlgical,” which priritized
fllwing established rules. In a separate test, the researchers asked the participants t cunt their heartbeats ver a shrt perid while the participants’ heartbeats were recrded with an
      electrcardigram.
Peple wh were mre accurate (精确的) at cunting their heartbeats tended t chse the mral decisin that mst ther peple chse, the team fund. This was true whether mre peple chse the utilitarian r dentlgical ptin fr a given mral dilemma. Basically, it’s easier
fllw the crwd than run against the grain.
In future wrk, Kim plans t investigate hw the relatinship between mral sense and awareness f bdy signals varies amng cultures, types f mral dilemmas and individual
persnality differences. But fr nw, Kim said, “this research lays a new theretical framewrk fr understanding cultural and individual differences in mral behavir and predicting
rule-fllwing behavir in grup r nline settings.”
9 .What des paragraph 2 suggest?
A .Fllwing thers lessens mental stress. B .Making decisins slves scial dilemmas.
C .Brains wrk best alne. D .Cnflicts help us survive.
10 .Why did the researchers carry ut a separate test?
A .T cllect supprting evidence. B .T verturn previus theries.
C .T check pssible slutins. D .T assess data accuracy.
11 .What des the underlined part “run against the grain” in paragraph 4 mean?
A.Side with the minrity. B.Take the beaten rad. C.Race against time.

Thrughut ur Junir year, my classmates and I have been wrried abut what clleges will see when they lk at ur whle life stry reduced t a single 200-wrd essay. Will the
glden wrd “success” frm in their minds when they review ur achievements? Or will they see the big wrd “fail” in red? The shadw f this mysterius (神秘的) institutin steals away what success means t us.

Even my failures are attached t a feeling f success; after I take a step back and lk at the

I talked t ne f the senir applicants wh answered
