A study that was published recently examined the amunt f micrplastic fund in fd after using tw different types f plastic cutting bards. Researchers cut up carrts n these plastic cutting bards and fund they resulted in 1,114 micrplastic particles (pieces f plastic less than 5 millimeters lng) n the carrts each time the bard was used. This means a plastic cutting bard culd prduce 15 milligrams f micrplastic per cut, and arund 50 grams a year — the same amunt as 10 plastic credit cards.
▲ At first, the studies abut micrplastic eating seem upsetting. Evidence suggests that micrplastic can be fund in ur bld, ur lungs, and even ur placenta (胎盘), and can be harmful t ur physical health. Hwever, it’s imprtant t nte that the science is still new and very limited (有限的). Dr. LeBeau pints ut that while the recent study examining cutting bards des prvide evidence f plastic particles in fd, it des nt make any claims (声明) that the negative effects f these cutting bards can d harm t human health. Hwever, this changed in 1862 when life was discvered as far dwn as 945 meters belw sea level with the help f a digging machine. Ten years later, arund 4, 700 species (物种) unknwn befre frm the cean flr were discvered.
Since then, high technlgy has been develped t help explre the deep sea, including satellites. But why is deep-sea explratin still s difficult? Well, at greater depths it is freezing (极冷的), everything is cmpletely dark, and the pressure can be ver 1, 000 times greater than that n the surface.
Thugh we have the difficulties, it’s imprtant that we understand the seas. They help cntrl the earth’s temperature and prduce half f the xygen (O2) in the air. A net f tubes runs under the ice. High-pressure liquid(液态) CO₂ ges thrugh them t create heat(热) exchange. The CO₂ evaprates(蒸发) under the ice surface. The evapratin takes in heat and turns water n the surface int ice. And the CO₂ ges int anther circle. This technlgy helps t make ice better and faster. And abve all, it is much greener because there’s n new CO₂ prduced. Amng all the 15 ice sprting places in the Winter Olympics, 7 used the CO₂ direct cling technlgy t make ice. As a result, much less pllutin was caused.
