      A new study finds Tai Chi can help slw cgnitive(认知的) decline and prtect against dementia(痴呆). The study included abut 300 lder adults, in their mid-70s n average, wh had all reprted that their memry was nt as gd as it used t be.
      As part f the study, all the participants tk a 10-minute test called the Mntreal Cgnitive Assessment. A nrmal scre is 26—30. A persn wh scres between 18 and 25 is cnsidered t have mild impairment(损害), which means they dn't have dementia but they're nt as sharp as they used t be and may need t wrk harder t maintain everyday activities. Once their scre drps under 18, peple experience quite a bit f impairment frm memry lss and cgnitive decline.
      The average scre f participants at the start f the study was 25. The study fund that peple wh practised a simplified frm f Tai Chi twice a week fr abut six mnths imprved their scre by 1.5 pints, meaning that they're ging t get three extra years befre they hit that decline int dementia.
      Researchers als tested a mre stricter type f Tai Chi, called Cgnitively Enhanced Tai Chi, where they prvided extra challenges. Fr example, participants were asked t spell a wrd, backward and frward, as they mved thrugh a series f Tai Chi mves.
