Directins: Read the fllwing three passages. Each passage is fllwed by several questins r unfinished statements. Fr each f them there are fur chices marked A, B, C and D. Chse the ne that fits best accrding t the infrmatin given in the passage yu have just read.
A
Sap bubbles (泡泡) are like little flating wnders. They’re light, delicate, and full f surprises. And, f curse, they shine with beautiful clurs! But if yu lk clsely, yu’ll ntice smething dd — bubbles shw pink, green, yellw, and smetimes blue, but where are the ther clurs? Why dn’t we see bright red, deep purple, r warm range flating in the air?
The secret behind a bubble’s clurs lies in its thin film. The uter surface reflects light, and s des the inner surface. Light mves like a wave in this situatin. Just like ripples (涟漪) n a pnd, the light reflected frm the inside travels a bit farther and may r may nt match up with the light reflected frm the utside. If the waves strengthen each ther, the clur f that wavelength becmes visible.
S far, s gd — this prcess can create many clurs. But where’s my red bubble?
The light waves spreading frm the bubble cntain all the clurs f the rainbw. Hwever, we dn’t see them separately because the sap film’s thickness ften prduces a mix f clurs. Interestingly, the thickness that enhances red als enhances vilet (紫色). But instead f seeing bth, we nly see pink.
The vilet wave ripples fur times befre exiting, while the red wave ripples three times. Yet, by the time they leave the bubble, they meet. Pink seems like a single clur, but it desn’t actually exist in the rainbw — ur brains create it by mixing red and vilet.
If the bubble’s surface becmes slightly thinner, the red and vilet waves cancel each ther ut, leaving nly green, which is a real rainbw clur. As the film gets even thinner, red and green appear tgether (bth rippling abut twice), but blue disappears, s we see yellw instead.
We nly see clurs when the sap film is very thin — just ne r tw light wavelengths thick. This means there are nly a few pssible clur cmbinatins, and red alne isn’t ne f them. S, n red bubbles fr me.
It might be frustrating t hear, “That’s just hw it is,” but in this case, I dn’t mind. Every sap bubble fllws the same rules, n matter hw r where it’s made. It’s actually cmfrting t see the universe wrking in such a cnsistent way. Pink and green bubbles are simply nature’s design.
56.Light reflected frm the uter and inner layers f a bubble interacts by ______.
A.cmbining int strnger light
B.either adding tgether r reducing each ther
C.absrbing each ther t make a single clur
D.passing thrugh the bubble withut changing
57.Why d we never see a perfectly red sap bubble?
A.Red light always mixes with ther clurs.
B.Red is t weak t be seen n a bubble’s surface.
C.The bubble’s surface absrbs red light cmpletely.
D.The sap in the bubble prevents red light frm reflecting.
58.What pint des the writer make in the last paragraph?
A.It’s nice that the natural wrld is filled with uncertainties.
B.It’s gd that the natural wrld fllws clear scientific rules.
C.It’s sad that we d nthing t change the clurs f sap bubbles.
D.It is frustrating t see the sap bubbles wrking in a cnsistent way.
59.What is the passage mainly abut?
A.Why light is s appealing.
B.Hw sap bubbles are made.
C.Hw light creates wnders in nature.
D.Why sme clurs dn’t appear in sap bubbles.
【答案】56.B 57.A 58.B 59.D
根据第二段“Just like ripples n a pnd, the light reflected frm the inside travels a bit farther and may r may nt match up with the light reflected frm the utside. If the waves strengthen each ther, the clur f that wavelength becmes visible. (就像池塘里的涟漪一样,从内部反射出来的光线会多走一段距离,可能与从外部反射出来的光线相遇,也可能不相遇。如果这两股波浪相互增强,那么那个波长的颜色就会变得可见。)”可知,从气泡的外层和内层反射的光通过加或减相互作用。故选B。
57.推理判断题。根据第四段“Hwever, we dn’t see them separately because the sap film’s thickness ften prduces a mix f clurs. Interestingly, the thickness that enhances red als enhances vilet. But instead f seeing bth, we nly see pink. (然而,我们不能单独看到它们,因为肥皂膜的厚度经常会产生混合的颜色。有趣的是,增强红色的厚度也增强了紫色。但我们看不到两者,只看到粉红色。)”可知,我们从来没有看到一个完美的红色肥皂泡是因为红光总是和其他颜色混在一起。故选A。
根据最后一段“Every sap bubble fllws the same rules, n matter hw r where it’s made. It’s actually cmfrting t see the universe wrking in such a cnsistent way. Pink and green bubbles are simply nature’s design. (每个肥皂泡都遵循同样的规则,不管它是在哪里或如何制造的。实际上,看到宇宙以如此一致的方式运行是令人欣慰的。粉色和绿色泡泡是大自然的设计。)”可知,作者在最后一段提出的观点是自然界遵循明确的科学规则是件好事。故选B。
59.主旨大意题。通读全文,尤其是第一段“But if yu lk clsely, yu’ll ntice smething dd — bubbles shw pink, green, yellw, and smetimes blue, but where are the ther clurs? Why dn’t we see bright red, deep purple, r warm range flating in the air?

根据文章文本2中的“It may enable us t discver new medicines, as well as new surces f fd and energy.(这可能使我们能够发现新的药物,以及新的食物和能源来源。)”
The Deepwater Hrizn spilled ver 200 millin gallns (加仑) f il int the sea in 2010. Plastic pllutin is als harmful, killing many birds and fish, and has even been fund in ur tap water. Mining fr resurces is damaging, especially in the Arctic. Climate change has led t less ice, which means we can lk fr mre fssil fuels(化石燃料) further nrth. Lgging new species will imprve ur understanding f life n the earth. It may enable us t discver new medicines, as well as new surces f fd and energy. Accessing the deep cean may prvide hints f events such as earthquakes. The ppulatin f the wrld is grwing and we need new resurces fr future develpment. There are prbably vast amunts f resurces under the sea and ice, nt just il and gas but als valuable minerals. The related envirnmental risks shuld be balanced with ecnmic needs. Hpefully, as technlgy imprves, we can have mre ptins fr managing this balance.(更多地了解海洋也将帮助我们更好地管理海洋资源。 D“What can we d t balance envirnmental prtectin and sea explratin?( 我们如何平衡环境保护和海洋探索?)”
C“Balance between the impact f sea explratin and its benefits. (海洋探索的影响与其带来的利益之间的平衡)”。故选C。

The phrase “cin tss” is a classic equivalent t randmness. But since at least the 18th century, mathematicians have suspected that even fair cins tend t land n ne side slightly mre ften than the ther. Prving this tiny bias (偏见), hwever, wuld require hundreds f thusands f carefully recrded cin tsses, making labratry tests a nightmare.
František Bartš, currently a Ph.D.candidate at the University f Amsterdam, became fascinated by this challenge fur years ag. He culdn’t rund up enugh vlunteers t investigate it at first. “Nbdy was stupid enugh t spend a cuple f weekends tssing cins,” he says. But after he began his Ph.D.studies, he tried again, recruiting 47 vlunteers (many f them friends and fellw students) frm six cuntries. Multiple weekends f cin tssing later, the team had perfrmed 350,757 tsses, breaking the previus recrd f 40,000.
The tssed cins, accrding t previus findings, landed with the same side facing upward as befre the tss 50.8 percent f the time. The large number f thrws allws statisticians t cnclude that the nearly ne percent bias isn’t a fluke. “We can be quite sure there is a bias in cin tsses after this data set,” Bartš says.
The leading thery explaining the subtle advantage cmes frm a 2007 physics study by statistician Persi Diacnis and his clleagues, whse calculatins predicted a same-side bias f 51 percent. Frm the mment a cin is launched int the air, its entire path in the air — including whether it lands n heads r tails — can be calculated by the laws f mechanics. The researchers determined that cins in the air barely turn arund their symmetrical axis (对称轴); instead they tend t mve ff-center unsteadily, which causes them t spend a little mre time in the air with their initial “up” side n tp.
Fr day-t-day decisins, cin tsses are as gd as randm because a ne percent bias isn’t perceptible with just a few cin tsses, says anther statistician wh wasn’t invlved in the new research. Still, the study’s cnclusins shuld eliminate any dubt that still exists regarding the cin tss’s slim bias.
It isn’t difficult t prevent this bias frm influencing yur cin-tss matches; simply cncealing the cin’s starting psitin befre tssing it shuld d the trick. Alternatively, yu can d away with tssing altgether by shaking the cin between yur palms. But if yur friends are unaware f the tiny bias, yu may as well benefit frm yur slight advantage. After all, 51 percent dds beat a lt.
63.Why was it difficult t prve the tiny bias in cin tsses?
A.Because it required a large number f trials and lads f tests.
B.Because few scientists and researchers were interested in this tpic.
C.Because scientists lacked the ability and technique t cnduct this study.
D.Because previus researches failed many times and scientists lst cnfidence.
64.The meaning f the underlined wrd fluke in paragraph 3 mst prbably refers t smething that ______.
A.happens by accidentB.can be planned in advance
C.ccurs under specific cnditinsD.can be gained by practice
65.What can we imply frm the last paragraph?
A.This ne percent bias matters little in real life.
B.We shuld rely n this ne percent bias t help us.
C.Thugh unnticeable, we may still take advantage f this bias.
D.Relying n the ne percent bias t win a cin-tss match is unfair.
66.What is the best title f this passage?
A.Risk-takers? Experts recmmend cin-tss matches.
B.Luck r Maths? Here’re sme tips n tssing cins.
C.Cin cllectrs? There’re stries behind each cin.
D.Heads r Tails? Research suggests it’s nt 50-50.

根据划线词上文“The tssed cins, accrding t previus findings, landed with the same side facing upward as befre the tss 50.8 percent f the time.(根据之前的研究结果,被扔出的硬币落地时,50.8%的情况下与抛硬币前的一面朝上)”以及后文““We can be quite sure there is a bias in cin tsses after this data set,” Bartš says.(巴尔托夫斯基说:“我们可以非常肯定,在这个数据集之后,投掷硬币是有偏见的。”)” 故选A。
根据最后一段“It isn’t difficult t prevent this bias frm influencing yur cin-tss matches; simply cncealing the cin’s starting psitin befre tssing it shuld d the trick. Alternatively, yu can d away with tssing altgether by shaking the cin between yur palms. But if yur friends are unaware f the tiny bias, yu may as well benefit frm yur slight advantage. After all, 51 percent dds beat a lt.(要防止这种偏差影响你的掷硬币比赛并不难;在抛硬币之前隐藏硬币的起始位置就可以达到这个效果。或者,你也可以把硬币放在手掌之间摇晃,这样就完全不用扔硬币了。但是,如果你的朋友没有意识到这种微小的偏差,你也可以从你的微小优势中受益。毕竟,51%的赔率已经很大了)”可知,虽然不明显,但我们仍然可以利用这种偏差。故选C。
66.主旨大意题。根据第四段“The leading thery explaining the subtle advantage cmes frm a 2007 physics study by statistician Persi Diacnis and his clleagues, whse calculatins predicted a same-side bias f 51 percent. The Tchaikvsky Cure fr Wrry
The 19th-century Russian cmpser Tchaikvsky was nt a happy man. In his 5,365 letters t friends and family, we find cnstant references t his sadness and anxiety. He had just ne, temprary pain reliever fr his misery: “… a new idea awakens in me and begins t assume a definite frm.”

At a time when md disrders are explding and less than a third f U.S. adults believe that they are living up t their creative ptential, this might be the simplest, easiest, and mst natural way fr anyne t imprve their life.
Neurscientific research ffers explanatins f hw creativity might lwer negative emtin, and anxiety in particular. In a fascinating 2015 study, neurscientists bserved peple as they wrte petry. They fund that during the idea-generatin phase f writing, the medial prefrntal crtex (前额叶内侧皮层) is especially active. This is the same part f the brain that is activated during meditatin (an activity in which peple sit still and fcus n their thughts), which suggests that creative activity might have sme f the same effects n stress as meditatinal exercises d — thus why sme anxius peple rutinely use it t treat themselves.
Yet, s many different creative utlets exist that the task f finding ne that fits yur persnality and tastes can be scary. One methd I like t suggest, t help peple find the ideal activity fr them, is t start by categrizing creative pursuits as public r private and inventive r interpretive. All yu need is t knw yur persnality type and yur preference. Outging peple wh prefer t interpret the wrks f thers can try theater r classical music; peple wh are shy might prefer studying petry.
