Cheng Yuyan never expected that the interest grup “We Lve Strlling in the Park”, which she created by accident n Duban, a Chinese scial media platfrm, fur years ag, wuld nw reach 100,000 members.
Accrding t the 25-year-ld frm Shanghai, creating this grup was just an accidental decisin, and she didn’t spend much time in it afterwards. Hwever, park lvers frm all ver China and even verseas have vluntarily made it their gathering place. Peple share park experiences, pst phts taken in parks, and ffer recmmendatins and reviews abut parks.
“The grwth f this grup is the result f rganic (绿色的) develpment, just like a park, where peple naturally cme tgether. The rise in member numbers als shws the increasingly imprtant rle that parks are playing in peple’s lives,” Cheng said.
Within this grup, there is a saying called “20 minutes fr parks”, which cmes frm a thery (理论) in the Internatinal Jurnal f Envirnmental Health Research. Accrding t the thery, spending 20 minutes in a park daily helps t reduce stress, n matter whether peple exercise in it r simply take a walk.
With the help f scial media, the thery has been receiving ppularity amng a great number f yung peple in China. Huang Bingbing frm Shenzhen, Guangdng prvince, is a fllwer f this idea.
She said that Shenzhen has many parks between ffice buildings. Over three years ag, when she was still wrking at an advertising cmpany, she used t visit the small park dwnstairs during her weekday lunch breaks. “On the grass, I culd cnnect with living plants and animals, allwing me t refresh my mind and recver frm the stress f the wrkplace,” Huang said.

A small study ut f Skidmre Cllege examined the advantages f mrning vs, evening exercise fr bth wmen and men. Paul, prfessr fr health at Skidmre, led the study.
“We had the grups divided int evening and mrning grups,” he says. “We fund wmen and men answered differently t different types f exercise depending n the time f the day, which surprised us.”
The study shwed that fr wmen wh want t lwer bld pressure (血压), the risk f heart disease r reduce fat, mrning exercise wrks best. Thse wmen hping fr upper bdy muscle (肌肉) gains r md (心情) imprvement shuld cnsider evening exercise. Fr the men, the findings were smewhat different: Evening exercise lwers bld pressure, the risk f heart disease, and feelings f tiredness. But similar t wmen, they burn mre fat with mrning exercise.
“Fr many peple, the best time t exercise will depend n their chrntype,” says Heisz, authr f Mve the Bdy, Heal the Mind.
“Chrntype is yur bdy’s natural habit t sleep at a certain time—it’s what decides whether yu’re a night wl r an early bird. Fr the 25% f the ppulatin that cnsiders themselves a night wl, getting bth enugh sleep and enugh exercise can be difficult,” adds Heisz.
He cntinues, “Sleep—which prvides yur bdy the necessary time t recver (恢复) and make gains frm exercise—shuld always be the first chice. When it cmes t exercise, regardless f research n the advantages f certain exercises at particular times f the day, yur results will nt be gd if it desn’t allw enugh time fr sleep.”

A new trend called “praise grups” r “in-need-f-praise” chat grups has becme ppular n Chinese scial media. In Chinese culture, where mdesty (谦逊) is valued, penly seeking and giving praise is uncmmn. These chat grups prvide a platfrm fr peple t receive cmpliments (赞扬) and encuragement, which are ften lacking in their daily lives.
T jin a praise grup, users can pay a fee n e-cmmerce sites, starting at 50 yuan fr five minutes f cmpliments. The grup members will then shw the persn with praises and kind wrds. The cmpliments can be designed fr a friend r lved ne as well. Participants have fund that being praised by strangers can help lift their spirits and imprve their self-cnfidence.
Fr example, Meng Zha, a student at Shanghai’s Tngji University, tried the service and fund it amusing and uplifting. She received cmpliments n her appearance and even qutes (引用) frm ppular sngs. Ms Meng culdn’t help but laugh at the cmpliments and expressed her desire t pst such high- quality praises in the future.
Praise grups have appeared as a way fr peple in China t seek and receive cmpliments and encuragement that may be lacking in their daily lives. It prvides a psitive and uplifting experience fr participants, imprving a sense f happiness and self-wrth.
