A majr study with ver 80,000 peple has shwn that speaking many languages can greatly slw dwn the brain’s aging prcess and help prevent cgnitive decline (认知下降). Published in the jurnal Nature Aging, the research finds that multilingual (多语言的) peple are half as likely t shw signs f speedy bilgical aging cmpared t thse wh speak nly ne language.
Accrding t Agustin Ibáñez, a scientist f the study, the research aimed t address a lng-standing questin in aging studies: whether multilingualism really slws dwn aging. While earlier studies had suggested that speaking many languages imprves cgnitive functins like memry and attentin, many f thse studies had prblems. Their sample (样本) sizes were small and their ways t measure aging weren’t practical, s the results weren’t the same.
This new research, hwever, has been praised fr its size and dependability. Christs Pliatsikas, a prfessr at the University f Reading, nted that the findings culd bring a big change t the field.

They wrked ut each persn’s “bibehaviral age gap (差值)”. This gap is the difference between hw ld a persn really is and hw ld they’re expected t be based n things like heart health, hw they live, and their educatinal level. A larger gap suggests faster aging. The researchers als discvered that peple wh spke nly ne language were tw times mre likely t have a big bibehaviral age gap. Mrever, the prtective effect increased with the number f languages spken.
Even thugh the research subjects nly self-reprted their language skills withut detailed examinatin, the large and different sample helped researchers explain things like wealth and backgrund. Agustin Ibáñez stressed that the study strngly supprts the idea that multilingualism itself — nt ther things — helps prtect the brain during aging. He als called fr future studies t include nn-Eurpean ppulatins.
The researchers hpe their findings will influence educatinal rules t imprve language learning, viewing multilingualism as a pwerful tl fr healthy cgnitive aging.

      B. Language learning avids brain aging.
      C. Multilingualism benefits brain functin.
      D. Multilingual peple have speedy aging.
      13. What des the phrase “bibehaviral age gap” in paragraph 4 refer t?

      B. The speed f a persn’s aging.
      C. A persn’s educatinal level.
      D. The cnditin f ne’s physical age.
      14. What is Agustin Ibañez’s attitude twards the study’s finding?
      A. Supprtive.B. Negative.C. Dubtful.D. Objective.
      15. Where is this text mst likely taken frm?
