A fruit is ne example f a state symbl — an bject that represents a state’s traditins and values. Other state symbls include flags, flwers, and birds. The students decided that Kansas shuld have its wn state fruit. And they were determined t make it happen. “They really wrked as a team t achieve this gal,” says their teacher, Jbi Wertenberger.
The kids were abut t find ut what it takes t create a new law. Wertenberger asked state lawmaker Randy Garber t speak t the class. Garber explained all the steps t get a new state symbl. Mst imprtantly, it wuld require that a new law be passed. Garber explained that the Kansas state legislature (立法机构) nrmally meets fr 90 days each year. He didn’t think they had enugh time t get a bill passed. Then, the kids had t wait fr the next year. By then, Wertenberger’s students mved up t fifth grade. But he gt his new furth-graders invlved t.
While researching, the kids learned an attempt tw years befre t get an fficial state fruit had failed. Thmas Richardsn had an idea. The 11-year-ld suggested they get mre kids invlved. In January f the fllwing year, Wertenberger’s class sent vting papers t ther schls, and after all vtes were cunted, the sandhill plum (李子) prved t be the clear winner. Then, they drafted a bill naming it the state fruit f Kansas and intrduced it int the state legislature.

Scientists have made a surprising discvery abut Bgng mths (蛾) — small brwn mths in sutheast Australia. Each spring, billins f these insects take an incredible trip, flying ver 1,000 kilmeters t reach caves (洞穴) in the Australian Alps.
The mths make this trip t get away frm the heat. When they reach the cler temperatures f the muntains, they gather n the cave walls and sleep fr mnths. In the fall, the mths fly all the way back. But scientists have lng wndered: Hw d the yung mths, wh have never traveled, knw where t fly t? Eric Warrant, a Swedish scientist, says, “It’s ttally amazing.”
Previus studies shwed the mths used the Earth’s magnetic (磁) field t guide them, but scientists wndered if they als use stars. Deep in Australia’s cuntryside — far frm human lights — the stars shine brightly. T test these ideas, Warrant and his team caught abut 400 mths. They tested each mth in a specially designed flying space. Inside this space, the mths were attached in a way that allwed them t mve their wings and fly any way they wanted, but nt leave the area.
T make sure the mths weren’t being guided by the Earth’s magnetic field, the researchers blcked the field using a special electrnic device. The scientists then prjected images f the starry night sky n the tp f the flying space. Sure enugh, the mths flew in the crrect directin. When the researchers turned the image, the mths als turned s that they were still lined up crrectly under the stars.
Then the researchers mixed up the stars n the tp f the space s that they n lnger represented a real night sky. The mths became perplexed. They didn’t knw which way t fly all at nce. This shwed the mths were using the stars as a guide. The mths’ small eyes can prbably nly see very bright stars, s it’s likely they use them as a guide. On cludy days, they use their backup — Earth’s magnetic field.

      D. T explain the gene editing prcess.
      14.What is the authr’s attitude t the result f the brand-new methd?
      A. Dubtful.B. Objective.C. Unclear.D. Cncerned.
15.What is the best title fr the text?
      A. CRISPR’s Applicatin in Medicine
