In Italy, specially trained dgs frm the Italian Schl f Water Rescue Dgs (SICS)are nw prtecting
the beaches and turists. SICS units, cnsisting f ne dg and ne trainer, are tasked with watching ver
      abut 30 f the cuntry's busiest beaches.
The SICS prgram is the brainchild f Ferrucci Pilenga, wh gt the idea that dgs wuld make
excellent lifeguards frm watching his wn Newfundland,an extremely pwerful swimmer named Mas.
"The dg pulled a water-filled bat with three peple n bard fr half an hur," Pilenga said. "A human
      cannt d that.”
The SICS prgram is a pretty arduus ne. After 18 mnths f basic training, nly thse dgs
successfully cmpleting the required steps can mve n t the mre intensive(加强的)aspects f lifesaving
techniques, such as jumping frm helicpters and leaping frm speeding bats.
While the success f the prgram can be partly attributed t the dgs' survival instincts that help them
find the safest rute t shre, as well as their energy and ability t fllw cmmands, Pilenga believes the emtinal cmpnent(成分)they bring t their wrk cannt be ignred.
"The presence f the dgs helps t lighten the situatin," he said. "The biggest reward is the emtin
that the dg and the wner feel at the mment f the rescue, which further unites that special bnd. T be
able t use a dg in a water rescue missin gives the rescuer a leg up. The rescuer wh perates n his wn
is alne. But we are never alne. We are always in a team with ur dg, s it's a six-legged unit. With my
dg, I can save my energy and becme a mre effective rescuer," Pilenga said.
Italy is currently the nly cuntry t recgnize certified dggie lifeguards. Hwever, with training
centers t be set up in the near future in the U.S., Germany, Switzerland, and the Azres, the SICS prgram
is lking t spread its safety net t wider waters.
24.What inspired Pilenga t cme up with the SICS prgram?
A.His adventures with Mas. B.His clse relatinship with Mas.
C.Mas's ability t fllw cmmands. D.Mas's amazing rescue perfrmance.
25.What des the underlined wrd"arduus"in Paragraph 3 prbably mean?
      A.Secure. B.Difficult. C.Ppular. D.Interesting.
26.What impresses Pilenga mst abut dggie lifeguards?
A.Their gentle character. B.Their quick reactin t changes.
C.Their utstanding swimming ability. D.Their emtinal supprt fr rescuers.
27.What can we infer frm the last paragraph?
A.Human lifeguards will be replaced by dgs sn.
B.The SICS prgram brings abut heated debates.
C.Dggie lifeguards will play their rles in mre places.

Have yu ever imagined yur simple T-shirt culd act as an air cnditiner n thse ht summer days?
Thanks t a discvery, that pssibility is getting clser and the T-shirt may sn be fund hanging frm the
      racks(架子)f yur favrite clthing brands.
Its inventrs, Ma Yaguang and Ta Guangming, tk a cmpletely new apprach. They designed a
special textile(纺织品)that can take in bdy heat and then send ut the energy. This textile cls bth the
bjects and their surrundings thrugh a technique that is knwn as radiative cling. This means that even
when it lks like yu are wearing a regular shirt, yu are actually wearing a device(设备)that wrks like a
      mirrr.
Althugh the technique is nt new and has been used fr years t design rfs, plastic films and special
paints, its use in the textile industry fr the benefit f wearers is what makes it s exciting and unique. That
is because, in the past, the available methds f dealing with heat thrugh clthes were limited t
suggestins n wearing light clrs and chsing breathable textiles. But even when these tips can actually
help yu feel cl, they are simply nt enugh in the httest seasn. The new textile, hwever, can reflect
UV, visible light and near-infrared light(NIR),which can cntribute t the cling prcess.S this discvery
      represents a real advance.
Right nw, researchers still need t test the new apprach t determine hw effectively the new textile
wrks while the wearers are standing r walking, and nt directly facing the sky, like in their experiments.
They als need t examine and measure hw well it wrks when T-shirts are nt in clse cntact with the
skin. But it's still a great success.
The inventrs are nw lking ut fr clthing brands that are interested in using their textile."The new
material will increase clthing manufacturing csts by just 10 percent. We can make it with mass
prductin, which means everybdy can get a T-shirt and the cst is basically the same as their ld stuff's,"
Yaguang said. "It can benefit everybdy.”
28.What is the main functin f the new textile?
A.Keeping wearers cl in the heat. B.Adjusting wearers' bdy temperatures.
C.Cllecting wearers' health infrmatin. D.Mnitring wearers' preference fr materials.
29.What is stressed abut the research f the new textile?
A.It prved the harm f NIR t human skins. B.It ignred textile usage in harsh cnditins.
C.It failed t meet the wearers' expectatins. D.It made a breakthrugh in the textile industry.
30.Further research f the new textile will fcus n .
A.hw t make clthes frm the textile B.the secret f the textile's special feature
C.whether the textile will be applied t ther fields D.the textile's perfrmance in different cnditins
31.Hw des Yaguang cnsider the cling T-shirts?
      A.Hard-wearing. B.Cst-effective. C.Quite fashinable. D.Extremely cmfrtable.

If yu have heard abut a cat called Gyra, yu may be wndering why peple say it's scary and deadly.
Actually, the African black-fted cat is knwn t be deadly fr its number f kills per night. Fr example, it
can kill mre f its prey(猎物)in ne night than a bigger cat, such as a lepard, wuld kill in mnths.
Often when yu imagine a deadly cat frm Africa, yu may think f a lepard r anther big cat. But
the black-fted cat is unusual because its deadly nature is packed int a small bdy. It is the smallest wild
cat in Africa, having a head-and-bdy length f 35-52 cm.

behavir f this species f cat. Black-fted cats live in Africa but it may be hard t find ne because f
their small number. Hwever, the BBC shw shne a light n them, which may help them t get sme aid t
survive lnger as a species. One culd als argue that mre attentin culd make bad peple try t find
them, but hpefully, mre gd than harm will cme frm it.
The interesting fact abut these cats is that yu may imagine them t have bvius black-clred feet
but actually nly the bttm surfaces f their feet are black. In fact, they are stripy(有条纹的) and fit well
int their native surrundings, s they are gd at hiding. These cats d lk cute. T passers-by, they wuld
lk n different frm a cmmn dmestic(家养的)cat withut special hunting skills, and this is ne f their
      biggest tricks.
Black-fted cats are nt dmesticated at all. Yu are unlikely t see a black-fted cat eating sme cat
treats eagerly anytime sn.The reality is that they wuld prbably reject such a treat because they wuld
nt identify anything that has nt been freshly killed as an acceptable fd.
32.Why is the black-fted cat cnsidered t be deadly?
A.It has a large size. B.It hunts very quickly. C.Its feet are pisnus. D.It attacks humans at night.
33.What is the authr's attitude twards the BBC's fllwing the cat?
      A.Psitive. B.Shcked. C.Dubtful. D.Disapprving.
34.What is mainly mentined abut the black-fted cat in Paragraph 4?
      A.Its imaginatin is excellent.
      B.It likes playing tricks n passers-by.
C.It ften hides itself frm dmestic cats.
D.Its appearance cntributes t its survival skills.
35.Why d black-fted cats generally refuse cat treats?
      A.They find cat treats dangerus.
B.They want t keep away frm humans.
C.Cat treats fail t suit their dietary preference.
D.Cat treats make them less active in hunting
