This unit fcuses n the theme f natural disasters, which falls within the "Man and Nature" categry, specifically related t "Natural Disasters and Preventive Measures, Persnal Safety and Self - Prtectin". The "Understanding ideas" part in this unit cntains several texts. Fr example, there may be a narrative that describes the thrilling experience f the prtagnist and his mther escaping during the eruptin f Munt Vesuvius frm a first - persn perspective. Anther text might tell the stry f the prtagnist being trapped in a train statin due t heavy rain and witnessing the crwd's emtins gradually ease as they are infected by the music played by a student rchestra. Thrugh these texts, students are guided t understand the impact f natural disasters n human life, as well as peple's reactins and feelings when facing such disasters.

3 Key Grammar - Past Cntinuus Tense
Frm: The structure f the past cntinuus tense is "was/were + V - ing". Fr example, "I was watching TV at 8 'clck last night."
Usage:
It is used t express an actin that was in prgress at a specific time in the past. Fr example, "When the earthquake happened, peple were sleeping."
It is ften used in strytelling cntexts. Fr example, "One day, I was walking in the park when I saw a strange bird.
教学过程
1 Lead - in (5 minutes)
Shw students sme pictures f different natural disasters, such as earthquakes, flds, and vlcanic eruptins. Then ask them: "What are these? Have yu ever experienced a natural disaster? Hw did yu feel?" Encurage students t share their experiences r feelings briefly. This activity aims t aruse students' interest in the tpic and activate their prir knwledge related t natural disasters.
2 Pre - reading (10 minutes)
Present the title and sme pictures related t the reading text. Let students predict what the text might be abut. Fr example, if the text is abut the eruptin f Munt Vesuvius, shw pictures f Pmpeii befre and after the eruptin.
Ask students t skim the text quickly and find ut the main idea f the text, such as wh the main characters are, where the stry happened, and what natural disaster ccurred. This step helps students get a general understanding f the text and prepare fr mre in - depth reading.
3 While - reading (15 minutes)
First reading: Let students read the text carefully and answer sme basic cmprehensin questins, such as "What was the prtagnist ding when the disaster started?" "What did they d t escape?" This can help students understand the details f the stry.
Secnd reading: Fcus n the grammar pints. Ask students t find sentences with the past cntinuus tense in the text. Fr example, "My mther and I were staying in a twn near Pmpeii." Analyze these sentences tgether, and let students summarize the structure and usage f the past cntinuus tense. Then cmpare sme sentences in the text using the past cntinuus tense and the simple past tense, like "I was running when I fell." and "I fell dwn." Guide students t discuss the differences between the tw tenses.
4 Pst - reading (10 minutes)
Grup wrk: Divide students int grups. Ask each grup t tell a stry abut a natural disaster they knw, using the wrds and expressins frm the reading passage and the useful expressins they have learned. Each grup member shuld cntribute t the stry. This activity can help students cnslidate the knwledge they have learned and imprve their ral English ability.
Ask students t write a shrt summary f the reading text, including the main events, the impact f the natural disaster, and what they have learned frm the stry. This can help students rganize their thughts and imprve their writing ability.
5 Summary and Hmewrk (5 minutes)
Summary: Summarize the key vcabulary, phrases, and grammar pints f this class with students. Emphasize the imprtance f understanding natural disasters and hw t face them bravely.
Hmewrk:
Ask students t write a mre detailed stry abut a natural disaster, using at least five sentences with the past cntinuus tense.
Let students search fr mre infrmatin abut a natural disaster they are interested in and prepare t share it in the next class.
教学反思
After this class, students shwed great interest in the tpic f natural disasters. Thrugh varius activities such as picture - viewing, predictin, reading, and grup discussin, mst students were able t master the key vcabulary and phrases, and had a better understanding f the past cntinuus tense. Hwever, sme students still had difficulties in distinguishing between the past cntinuus tense and the simple past tense. In future teaching, mre exercises and examples can be prvided t help them clarify this cnfusin. Als, during the grup wrk, sme grups did nt cperate very well. In the future, mre guidance n grup cperatin shuld be given t ensure that every student can actively participate in the activities. Overall, this class achieved mst f the teaching bjectives, but there is still rm fr imprvement in sme aspects.教学目标
Students will be able t crrectly recgnize and spell the key vcabulary and cllcatins in this class, such as "natural disaster", "disaster warning", "at that time", etc.
Students will be able t identify the past cntinuus tense in the text and summarize and generalize its usage.
