Math teacher Ana Sepúlveda wanted t make gemetry (几何) fun fr her 6th-grade sccer-lving students. She asked ChatGPT fr help. Within secnds, the chatbt created a cmplete five-page lessn plan linking shapes and angles t the sccer field, including prject ideas and discussin questins. “It’s been a game changer fr me,” said Sepúlveda, wh als uses it fr parent cmmunicatin and Spanish translatin. “It’s helping me with lessn planning and increasing student participatin.”
Ana Sepúlveda is nt alne. Acrss the US, teachers are using artificial intelligence (AI) tls like chatbts t help with their wrk. These tls aid in writing quizzes, designing lessns, grading tasks and reducing paperwrk. Many teachers reprt that saving time this way makes them better educatrs.
A recent natinal survey fund that 6 ut f 10 public schl teachers used AI tls during the past schl year. High schl teachers and newer teachers used them mst ften Teachers using AI weekly say it saves them abut six hurs, suggesting it culd help reduce tiredness and verwrk.
Abut 8 in 10 teachers using AI say it saves time n tasks like making wrksheets r tests. Arund 6 in 10 believe it imprves their wrk quality, especially when changing student materials r giving cmments. “AI has changed hw I teach. It’s als given me a better wrk-life balance,” said high schl teacher Mary McCarthy.
Hwever, experts advise careful use. States are creating schl guidelines. “We want t make sure AI isn’t replacing the judgment f a teacher,” said Prfessr Maya Israel. She ntes AI is gd fr basic grading (like multiple-chice tests) but less effective in tasks needing careful judgment. The final decisin shuld always rest with the teacher.
Teachers als stress using AI prperly. Training helps them mdel gd use fr students. “It feels like my respnsibility t help them figure ut hw t deal with: a future where AI is part f daily life,” MaCarthy explained. Sme teachers use AI nly fr specific prject parts, ensuring students first develp their wn skills. Cncerns remain abut students verusing AI, ptentially affecting critical thinking, and experienced teachers als learn t spt AI-written student wrk.

Planting trees is a ppular way t try t balance ut carbn emissins (碳排放), but a new study shws it culd never fully make up fr pllutin frm the wrld’s biggest fssil fuel (化石燃料) cmpanies. T take in enugh carbn just frm the future emissins tied t the tp 200 il, gas and cal cmpanies’ reserves, yu wuld need t cver the entire land area f Nrth and Central America with trees. This is impssible because there simply isn’t enugh available land n Earth.
Researchers figured ut that if these cmpanies paid fr planting all thse trees, it wuld cst $10.8 trillin—mre than their cmbined market value f $7.01 trillin. Even if it were pssible, the cmpanies wuld face huge csts if they had t pay fr the envirnmental damage caused by burning their reserves.
“Peple might think carbn ffsetting (抵消) is like a magic eraser, but that’s nt realistic,” explained study c-authr Nina Friggens. Trees naturally absrb carbn as they grw, making them a relatively cheap ffset methd heavily prmted by many cmpanies. Hwever, the study fcused nly n trees because ther carbn trapping technlgies are currently t expensive r underdevelped.
While experts praised the study fr shwing the extent f the prblem, they warn against ruling ut tree planting entirely. Dne crrectly, it brings imprtant benefits like supprting wildlife, prtecting against natural disasters, and imprving fd security. But the key pint remains: we cannt plant ur way ut f the climate prblem nly by ffsetting planned fssil fuel burning.
Jnathan Fley likened the situatin t an verflwing bathtub: “Trees are the spnges (海绵) and mps we use t clean up the mess. But if the taps (emissins) are still running full frce, flding the bathrm, yu abslutely have t turn them ff first.” The study highlights that stpping emissins is essential; relying nly n trees t clean up after fssil fuels is mathematically and physically impssible.
      12. What des the secnd paragraph mainly talk abut?
      A. The prblems f burning fssil reserves.
      B. The market value f fssil fuel cmpanies.
      C. The envirnmental damage frm cutting trees.
      D. The cst f planting trees t ffset emissins.
      13. Which f the fllwing is the experts’ pinin accrding t paragraph 4?
      A. Fssil fuels are safe.B. Tree planting is simple.
      C. Tree planting has its value.D. Carbn ffsetting is unnecessary.
      14. What d Jnathan Fley’s wrds mainly suggest?
      A. Emissins shuld be reduced first.
      B. Trees are the best t clean emissins.
      C. Taps are less imprtant than spnges.
      D. Running helps reduce carbn emissins.
