This unit fcuses n the tpic f "inventins", falling within the "Peple and Sciety" theme categry, specifically related t the "Science and Technlgy" theme grup. The "Develping ideas" part cnsists f tw main sectins. The first part is mainly abut listening and speaking. Students will listen t materials related t inventins, such as infrmatin abut an inventin exhibitin and qualities f inventrs. They will learn t extract key infrmatin frm the listening materials, like details f the exhibitin (time, place, cst) and understand imprtant qualities fr inventrs like perseverance, curage, and cperatin. In the speaking sectin, they will describe inventrs' qualities and supprt their views with examples.
The secnd part is abut reading and writing. The reading passage takes Franklin, Wan Hu, Zhang Heng, etc. as examples t expund n the crucial rle f curisity in inventin and creatin. Thrugh reading, students will analyze the text structure, summarize the main idea, and extract key infrmatin. In the writing part, students are guided t write a discurse abut the pwer f curisity, applying what they have learned frm the reading.
A. Vcabulary
curisity n. 好奇心;求知欲

教学过程
A. Warming - up (5 minutes)
Greet the class and start a shrt cnversatin. Ask students, "What was the mst interesting thing yu discvered recently?" Let several students share their experiences.
Shw sme pictures f famus inventins, such as the light bulb, the telephne, and the cmputer. Ask students t briefly intrduce these inventins and their inventrs. This can activate students' prir knwledge abut inventins and aruse their interest in the tpic f this class.
B. Listening (10 minutes)
Pre - listening
Present sme new wrds and phrases related t the listening material, such as "inventin exhibitin", "ticket price", "talk by an inventr", etc. Explain their meanings and let students read and remember them.
Shw students a picture f an inventin exhibitin hall and ask them t predict what infrmatin they might hear in the listening material, like the time, place, and activities f the exhibitin.
While - listening
Play the recrding f the listening material fr the first time. Students listen carefully and answer a general questin, such as "What is the main idea f the listening passage?"
Play the recrding again. This time, students listen fr specific infrmatin and fill in a frm abut the inventin exhibitin, including the pening and clsing dates, the lcatin, the ticket price, and the special event (a talk by an inventr).
Pst - listening
Check the answers with the whle class. Then, divide students int pairs and ask them t rle - play a cnversatin abut the inventin exhibitin. One student acts as a persn wh has been t the exhibitin, and the ther acts as smene wh wants t knw abut it. They shuld use the infrmatin frm the listening material in their cnversatin.
C. Reading (15 minutes)
Pre - reading
Shw students pictures f Franklin, Wan Hu, and Zhang Heng. Ask if they knw these peple and their inventins. Let students briefly share what they knw.
Present the title f the reading passage "The Pwer f Curisity". Ask students t predict what the passage might be abut based n the title.
While - reading
Skimming: Let students quickly read the passage t get the main idea. Then, ask them t summarize the main idea in ne r tw sentences. The main idea is that curisity has played a significant rle in the inventins f many famus inventrs.
Scanning: Ask students t read the passage again carefully and answer sme detailed questins, such as "What did Franklin's curisity abut lightning lead t?", "What was Wan Hu's attempt based n his curisity?", and "Hw did Zhang Heng's curisity affect his achievements?"
Text structure analysis: Guide students t analyze the text structure. The passage first states the imprtance f curisity in inventin, then gives examples f Franklin, Wan Hu, and Zhang Heng t illustrate this pint, and finally cncludes that curisity is the driving frce behind many great inventins.
Pst - reading
Summarize the key pints f the passage with the students, emphasizing the rle f curisity in inventin and the examples f famus inventrs.
Divide students int grups f fur. Each grup chses ne f the inventrs in the passage and makes a shrt presentatin abut the inventr's curisity and hw it led t their inventin.
D. Writing (10 minutes)
Pre - writing
Review the text structure f the reading passage with students: intrductin (stating the tpic - the pwer f curisity), bdy (giving examples t supprt the tpic), and cnclusin (restating the imprtance f the tpic).
Brainstrm with students abut ther examples f hw curisity led t inventins. Encurage them t think f bth well - knwn and sme less - knwn examples. Write the examples n the blackbard.
While - writing
Ask students t write a shrt passage abut the pwer f curisity. They shuld fllw the text structure and use sme f the examples discussed. Remind them t use the key vcabulary and sentence patterns learned in this class.
Walk arund the classrm t ffer help and guidance t students during their writing prcess.
Pst - writing
Ask several students t read their passages alud t the class. After each reading, let ther students give sme simple cmments, such as what they think is gd abut the passage and what culd be imprved.
Display sme well - written passages n the screen (either frm students in the class r prepared in advance) and analyze the strengths f these passages, such as clear lgic, apprpriate examples, and crrect language use.
E. Summary and Hmewrk (5 minutes)
Summary
Summarize the key vcabulary, phrases, sentence patterns, and the main cntent f this class with students. Emphasize the imprtance f curisity in inventin and creatin.
Hmewrk
Ask students t rewrite their writing passages accrding t the cmments and suggestins they received in class.
Let students d sme research n anther inventr and write a shrt reprt abut hw the inventr's curisity influenced their inventins. The reprt shuld be at least 150 wrds.
教学反思
In this class, thrugh varius teaching activities such as listening, reading, and writing, students have a better understanding f the rle f curisity in inventin and creatin. The use f pictures, grup wrk, and rle - play can effectively aruse students' interest and actively invlve them in classrm learning.
Hwever, there are als sme areas that need imprvement. In the listening part, sme students had difficulty in accurately extracting detailed infrmatin, especially when the listening material had a relatively fast speed. In the future, mre listening practice with different speeds and mre cmplex cntent shuld be prvided, and sme listening skills training, such as predicting, nte - taking, shuld be strengthened.
During the writing prcess, althugh students have a certain understanding f the text structure, sme students still had prblems in chsing apprpriate examples and rganizing their language. In the fllwing classes, mre writing guidance, such as prviding mre mdel essays, analyzing writing structures in mre detail, and cnducting targeted writing exercises, shuld be carried ut t imprve students' writing ability.
In general, this class has achieved mst f the teaching bjectives, but cntinuus imprvement and adjustment f teaching methds and cntent are needed t better meet the learning needs f students.教学目标
Students will be able t master the cre vcabulary and phrases related t this part, such as "curisity", "inspire", "experiment", "by accident", "n purpse", etc.
They can understand and use sentence patterns related t expressing the rle f curisity in inventins, fr example, "One's curisity abut... inspired his/her...".
Students will learn abut the stries f famus inventrs and their inventins intrduced in the text.
