In cntrast, much f the natinal park has been heavily lgged.
The Munt Kenya regin is remte and delicate, which makes it difficult t safeguard. Thugh the Kenya Frest Service has made sustainably managing all public frest plantatins its secnd pririty, the burden f cnservatin has fallen n the shulders f lcal individuals such as Mr. Ok.
In recent years, herders (牧民) have even built animal pens within legally prtected areas. “It’s a bit f an annying sight,” Mr. Ok says, “when freign visitrs have t pay a high fee t enter the park but then cme acrss huge herds f sheep and cattle in the delicate envirnment. The laws prtecting that envirnment are in place, but they are insufficiently enfrced because rangers (护林员) at each gate are limited.”.
When he’s at hme in Nar Mru, Mr. Ok advcates fr tree planting, particularly amng kids. “It’s smething I grew up ding,” he explains. “When I was yung, my dad wuld give all f us 10yung trees t plant and take care f. Smehw, he knew the cnnectins between trees and climate changes.”
It’s a practice Mr. Ok has kept alive despite cntinuus challenges with climate and cattle; it is nt uncmmn fr sheep and cattle t destry the yung trees that he and his yung friends have planted. “We just keep ging,” he says. “It’s smething I value, and I think we shuld plant mre.”

Preventing the illegal hunting f any creature is hard, especially when relatively small numbers f park staff are ften respnsible fr patrlling (巡逻) large areas. S researchers at the Institute f Subtrpical Bilgy (ISB) and park-staff in Iguazú Natinal Park f Argentina have been explring new means f predicting where pachers (偷猎者) might strike — and they are turning t new kinds f mapping technlgy fr help.
In recent years, the staff f the Park have used satellite phnes, alng with the Spatial Mnitring and Reprting Tl (SMART) fr psitin analysis. But SMART technlgy is nly as helpful as the data available t infrm it. “The whle peratinal situatin imprved a lt, but the reality is that we are still faced with a high number f hunters,” says Bellnì, a staff f the Park. Envirnmentalists in Iguazú are thus cnstantly n the lkut fr new ways t map and predict paching ht spts.
One additinal mapping tl culd be based n audi (音频). Fr seven mnths frm August 2018, researchers frm ISB used audi mnitring methds t map paching ht spts inside the Park. The study cvered an extremely large 4,637 sq km area and, by situating the autmatic recrders high n trees ut f sight f pachers, the research team were able t recrd gunsht sunds up t 2km away frm each lcatin.
After seven mnths, they had recrded gunshts at 43 sites ut f 90, with a range f 1 t 68 shts per site. The researchers then used this infrmatin t prduce a predictive map f paching activity. They als validated their mdel with field trips t lk fr physical evidence, such as bullet shells and cut plants, and shwed that the predictive map was 82% reliable (可靠的), says Julia Martinez Pard, the lead authr f the study.
The practical applicatin f this system culd, in future, further help the efficiency f patrlling. By crss-referencing the audi mnitring data with the existing patrl rutes, the park staff culd establish whether their current turs match with the places with greatest gunsht activity. If the maps dn’t match, then the patrls culd be changed.
32.What is the researchers’ purpse f wrking with park-staff in Iguazú Natinal Park?
A. T frecast pachers’ mvements.
B. T study creatures in the frest.
C. T create new SMART technlgy.
D. T find evidence f illegal activities.
33.What can be inferred frm paragraph 2?
A. SMART technlgy is ineffective withut available data.
B. SMART technlgy has been cmpletely given up.
C. Audi mnitring methds have been widely used.
D. Lud sunds can drive away the hunters.
34.What des the underlined wrd “validated” mean in paragraph 4?
A. Defined.B. Prved.C. Maintained.D. Suited.
35.Hw will the new system help the park’s patrlling staff?
A. By upgrading their wrking equipment.
B. By telling them when t start their patrls.
C. By prviding them with different patrl rutes.
D. By shwing them whether t change patrl rutes.

Advanced sensrs and artificial intelligence (AI) are key t a rbt’s ability t understand and respnd t its envirnment. 38 They can als analyze the cllected data, and make infrmed decisins based n that infrmatin. Fr example, a rbt designed t assist in surgeries can use sensrs t mnitr a patient’s vital signs in real time and change its actins accrdingly. This ensures that the rbt’s actins are always in the best interest f the patient.
39 They can be prgrammed t prvide specific exercises r treatments tailred t an individual patient’s needs. This persnalized apprach ensures patients receive the mst effective treatment pssible. Furthermre, rbts can als reduce the wrklad f healthcare prfessinals.

The human hand, with its 23 degrees f freedm (DOFs) — the number f independent mvements it can perfrm, is an amazing piece f natural engineering, 57 (cntribute) t 54 percent f the bdy’s verall functinal mvements despite weighing nly abut ne-150th f the bdy’s weight.
Traditinal prsthetic hands, ften 58 (pwer) by mtrs, struggle t balance weight and functinality. Mst f them weigh mre than 0.4 kilgrams, 59 causes discmfrt and restricts their ability t d cmplex tasks. The USTC team addressed these challenges by using shape-memry allys — materials that remember their riginal shape and return t it when heated — 60 artificial muscles. Cmbined with a transmissin system, this innvative apprach enhances the driving frce while reducing 61 (resist).
