      Grwing up in rural Malawi, Africa, William Kamkwamba learned t accept that life was tugh. He lived with his parents and seven sisters in a small clay huse withut electricity r running water. Like mst bys in his village, William was expected t assist his parents n the family farm, as well as t keep up with his schlwrk. Each night, like mst Malawians, his family went t bed early because the kersene they needed t light the lamps was cstly.
      When he was 10, a terrible drught left many Malawians hungry and William’s family was n exceptin. William had t wrk even harder t help his family, but he wasn’t ready t give up his educatin. He went t the lcal library and tk ut sme bks t study. One bk, called Using Energy, sparked William’s interest in science and gave him an idea that significantly changed his future.

He knew that there was plenty f wind in his village, and realized that if he culd build a windmill like that, he culd give his family and the peple in his village a much better life.       What happened ver the next year demnstrated William’s incredible ambitin and determinatin.
