In birds, males are ften the nes having shwy, clrful feathers — the better t attract females. Fr example, male cardinals (红雀) get bright red feathers, while females are pale brwn. And the male white-necked jacbin, a tiny trpical hummingbird (蜂鸟) , has a deep blue head and lively green back, whereas females are generally drab.
But nt always. Falk and his clleagues als wndered if the male-lkalike female jacbins were trying t attract mates by standing ut frm the drab females, r if they were cmpeting with each ther fr hney. Falk and his clleagues turned t their next guess: resurce cmpetitin. They fund that the male-cpying females appeared in frnt f the feeders mre ften and spent lnger time feeding than the drab females.
With such benefits, why dn’t all females develp bright feathers? It nt nly needs mre energy and time t keep the feathers, but als it’s risky. Female hummingbirds are single parents, which is already energy-demanding. On tp f that, “if yu’re brightly clred and sitting n a brwn nest in a green tree, yu’re ging t stand ut,” Falk says. “It’s much easier t be eaten.”
      28. Hw des the authr intrduce the tpic?

      C. Bright-feathered female jacbins are n an increase.
      D. Male-lkalike female jacbins are mre adaptable t the envirnment.
      30. Why d female white-necked jacbins cpy male clratin?
      A. T stand ut t attract mates.
      B. T get mre chances t survive.
      C. T cmpete with ther hummingbirds.
      D. T ffer mre fd t ther hummingbirds.
      31. What des the last paragraph mainly talk abut?
