      Text 10
Hi everybdy! I’m delighted t see s many f yu here tday fr my
intrductry talk abut the university music sciety. The sciety was riginally set up
fifty years ag by a grup f tutrs in the music department. They ran it themselves
fr the first ten years, and then handed ver the rganizatin f the sciety t students,
and it has stayed that way ever since.
We invite experts t give talks n varius different subjects thrughut the
year—we’ve had speakers telling us abut pians thrugh the ages, and hw t make
drums. The first ne f term is this evening, and it’s all abut vilins.
And next Wednesday, yu’ll have a chance t hear ur jazz grup playing in a
cncert. D yu remember where the Kings Hall is, where yu had yur first-year
welcme talk yesterday? Well, the cncert will be in the slightly smaller Unin Hall,
      just ppsite.
We have a cmpetitin every year fr yung cmpsers. It tk us a bit f time
chsing a theme this year—in the past we’ve cvered tpics frm nature t dance—
the cmmittee finally agreed it wuld be petry, s we’ll see hw that ges!
