This later evlved int a lve f science fictin and escaping t adventure lands ppulated by mythical creatures. This feeling f wnder runs thrugh her prject Masked masquerade (蒙面舞会) series, which sees her travelling thrugh Eurpe t recrd a visually striking branch f ancient flk custms.
“Several years ag, I saw phtgraphs f a masquerade in the nrth f Spain called ‘La Vijanera,’” Suszczynski says. “The characters lked like thse I had imagined frm the pages f my childhd stries. There was everything frm fur-cvered creatures t masked tree fairies and spirits f the wdlands. I flew t Spain fr a week t attend, and just like that, a passin was brn.”
After this, Suszczynski began researching mre Eurpean masked masquerades, hping t learn abut their histry, characters, and symblism. The festivals typically celebrated cmmn themes invlving seasnal change, life, and happiness. “In each masquerade I feels like being transprted int a different fairy tale nvel frm my childhd. It is an hnr that instead f simply escaping int these fantastic stries, I can nw share them thrugh my phtgraphs,” she shares.
The prject has taken her t Spain, Bulgaria, and Prtugal, where she has phtgraphed grups with designed cstumes and masks. Fr Suszczynski, the entire prcess is a wild ride. “When I plan a ‘trip’ it’s usually arund an event, and I’ll g t the event — the carnival, the parade, whatever it is — but that’s nly the tip f the iceberg. That is the ft in the dr,” she says. Besides, she tries her best t vercme the language barrier.
But the phtgrapher describes the whle prcess as an adventure wrth paying. “I’ll have friends fr life made frm these phts. I am s thankful fr each and every persn I have phtgraphed. They lve t teach abut their culture. They lve fr peple t learn abut their culture, t bring it t light,” Suszczynski cncludes.

Climate change is largely respnsible fr the mass die-ff f ur planet’s cral reefs (珊瑚礁), as stress caused by higher water temperatures causes crals t drive away the algae (藻类) living within them. The lss f that life-giving algae isn’t the nly prblem, hwever.
Stressed crals are als mre likely t be infected by naturally ccurring bacteria. In the past, ppulatins f thse extremely small living things were kept t manageable levels by sea cucumbers (海参), which feed n seaflr sediment (沉积物). Unfrtunately, due t ver-harvesting fr use in the Asian seafd market, sea cucumbers are nw becming increasingly rare in many regins.
In rder t see just hw crucial the animals are t cral health, a Gergia Tech team led by Mark Hay and Cdy Clements cnducted a series f field experiments in the Suth Pacific Ocean.
Near the island f M’rea in French Plynesia, the scientists left existing sea cucumbers in 10 plts f sandy seabed and remved them frm 10 thers, then planted five cral grups in each f the plts. Thse plts were subsequently inspected n a daily basis fr a perid f 45 days. It was ultimately fund that cral death rate caused by sediment-assciated diseases was 15 times greater in the sea-cucumber-less plts.
Hay and Clements nw hpe that their findings will mtivate gvernments and ther grups t implement stricter limits n the harvesting f sea cucumbers, and t begin raising the animals fr release nt crals that are in need f prtectin. Farmed sea cucumbers culd ptentially als find use in keeping fish farms clean, and pssibly even delaying certain diseases.
“If yu remve all the sediment eaters in the great fish tank f Earth, yu’re ging t get a dirty tank eventually,” said Clements. “Peple have paid lip service t the idea that sea cucumbers culd be imprtant fr a lng time, but we didn’t knw the scale f their imprtance until nw.”
28. Why are sea cucumbers imprtant fr cral health?
A. They directly prvide nutrients t crals.B. They help t reduce disease risk t crals.
C. They prduce algae essential fr cral life.D. They drive the harmful algae away frm crals.
29. What was the key difference between the tw sets f plts in the experiment?
A. The presence r absence f sea cucumbers.B. The types f cral grups planted in them.
C. The quantity f seaflr sediment in each plt.D. The frequency f inspectins ver the 45-day perid.
30. What did Hay and Clements appeal fr?
A. A ban n seafd harvesting in the tested regin.
B. The establishment f new cral reserves wrldwide.
C. The adptin f mre sea cucumber cnservatin practices.
D. Further study n the uses f farmed sea cucumbers in medicine.
31. What d Clements’ wrds imply in the last paragraph?
A. The imprtance f sea cucumbers was greatly verstated.
B. Sea cucumbers were cnsidered insignificant fr a lng time.
C. Peple have already taken measures t prtect sea cucumbers.
D. Sea cucumbers play a vital rle in keeping marine ecsystem healthy.

If yu cnstantly make ‘quick checks’ f varius devices and inbxes, yu essentially keep yurself in a state f persistent attentin residue, which is a terrible idea if yu’re smene wh uses yur brain t make a living.”

C. Listening t music while wrking.D. Balancing multiple activities effectively.

A. Multitasking: A Mdern LifestyleB. The Challenges f Zer Distractins
