I didn’t expect parenting a teenager to be this hard. Lately, my son and I conflict at every corner. About schoolwork. His attitude. Friends. Screen time. On and on. Everything I say is met with an eye roll or a mumbled “whatever”. My fuse is admittedly shorter than normal right now, due to some unrelated anxiety, illness, and lack of sleep.
On a recent drive home after picking up my teen and his little brother from school, we stopped by a grocery. As soon as the food was loaded, my older child snatched a box of individually wrapped cakes, which I seldom allowed. As he oohed and aahed, enjoying sweet cakes, I silently questioned my decision to spoil him this way. But before we’d even exited the parking lot, he asked me to pull over. And then my son surprised me: He asked if he could share a few of his treasured treats with a homeless man, standing outside the door, coatless.
    Of course, I agreed.
Actually, I kicked myself. This was a gesture I hadn’t even considered in a hurry to get home, even though my car was packed with food. Without hesitation, my teenage son handed the stranger a few little cakes. The man thanked us, and we continued on our way.
Throughout our journey home, we frankly discussed how difficult it must be for people experiencing homelessness. It was a rare conversation. No push and pull or negotiations. Simply a time to reflect and take stock of how much we have to be thankful for.
When we eventually turned into our garage, that same teenager—expressing concern for my recent illness—announced, “You’re not unloading any of these bags. We got this, Mom.”
Yes, parenting a ten is harder than I expected. But it’s also sweeter: And, in that moment, you realize you’ve actually raised a pretty awesome human being.
4、What does the underlined words in Paragraph 1 mean?
    A. She can hold her temper easily.

    C. The suffering of the homeless. D. Her son’s concern for the homeless.
6、Which of the following can best describe the conversation in Paragraph 5?
    A. Boring. B. Calm. C. Aggressive. D. Joyful.
7、What can be a suitable title for the text?
    A. Sweet Cakes B. The Hardness of Parenting
    C. Precious Kindness D. A Treat to A Homeless Man
Droughts are one of a farmer’s most feared threats. And in our warming climate, the risk of drought has been climbing. Anticipating a drier future, two American teen engineers have been investigating how to help farmers keep their crops from getting dangerously thirsty.
John Benedict, 16, has seen lots of droughts. As a sophomore at Clovis North High School, he wanted to help farmers save their plants from being dried. To measure a plant's drought stress more directly, he built a small robotic arm and used it to measure the light reflecting off of bell peppers. As plants get dry, the way they reflect sunlight changes very slightly. It’s not something that our eyes can see. But it is something a robot could detect. At the same time, his robot measured soil moisture and temperature. With these data, he built a computer model. It predicts which plants will be suffering from thirst faster.
It’s also important to make sure that no irrigation water is wasted. That’s why Arya Tschand, 17, has been launching his drone into the sky. This senior at High Technology High School, aims to help poor farmers like the ones he saw while traveling in India. The teen’s drone hovers over plants and measures their color. Using a computer model, Arya taught the drone to predict how thirsty a plant was based on the color of its leaves. According to that color, the drone then sends a signal to an irrigation system on the ground, which adjusts how much water it sends out to plants.
In areas with drought, where every drop matters, farmers can’t afford to waste any moisture. Just like John, his next step is to scale up his project. In the meantime, he has applied for a patent on his system.
8、What did John focus on in his project?
    A. Plants management. B. Data analyses.
    C. Plant-thirst detection. D. Lights changes.
9、What can Arya’s drone be used for?
    A. Protecting the plants. B. Helping precise irrigation.
    C. Forecasting plant colors. D. Arranging computer models.
10、What’s the future of the two methods?
    A. It’s unclear. B. It’s disappointing C. It’s controversial. D. It’s promising.
11、Where is this text most likely from?
    A. A travel brochure. B. A guidebook. C. A magazine. D. A research paper.
One of the great things about pictures is that they make no demands on you. You can look as long as you like and walk away at any time. Occasionally, people always say they feel frightened by art. Some in art world, wanting to establish their authority, fall back on abstractions. But what field doesn’t see a version of this phenomenon? Have you tried understanding biology? Law? In my experience, there is less of this complex talk around art than around most other fields.
Art is a wide field. It’s deep. It’s diverse. You can come at the subject from countless angles. People seem to have been making art since the beginning, so the subject is an inseparable part of the whole history of humanity. But, in the end, we’re talking about pictures and sculptures. How hard is it to look at a painting? How difficult is it to walk around a sculpture? Children get it immediately. They know there’s no right or wrong when it comes to looking at art.
More than the political or economic conditions of any given era, it is art that later generations most want to remember. We remember Picasso and Matisse over the chief ministers of Britain in the 1960s. That’s because the arts reveal the best of us. It’s because they combine the most intelligent and the most feeling of us. They testify, most fundamentally, to the fact that we’re alive, that people lived before us, that as a species we’re capable of making the most extraordinary things, and that human consciousness and the world beyond it are nothing short of astonishing.
Again and again, art expresses that astonishment—that mixture of wonder and disappointment, knowing and unknowing, pleasure and pain, joy and fear.
12、What’s author’s attitude towards the phenomenon in Paragraph 1?
    A. Indifferent. B. Acceptable. C. Doubtful. D. Disapproving.
13、What is the main idea of the first two paragraphs?
    A. Art is complicated but easy. B. Art is as complex as other fields.
    C. Art is insufferable due to its abstraction. D. Art is an inseparable part of human history.
14、Why does the author mention Picasso and Matisse?
    A. To emphasize artists are more adorable.
    B. To compare political and artistic figures.
    C. To show art can spread in a broader area.
    D. To illustrate the superior position of art.
15、What can we learn from the passage?
    A. Art mixes abstract concepts. B. Art brings everlasting amazement.
    C. Art perfects the thoughts of beauty. D. Art combines unsettled contradictions.

On a Sunday morning, Mom told Roger that Grandpa was on his way over. Roger grinned and tapped his drums. Grandpa once drummed in a band. He and Roger always had fun playing together. Mom added that some of Grandpa’s joints were hurting him today and he needed a rest. But Roger thought they could play for just a little while.
Roger practiced all morning. Finally, Dad’s car pulled up in front of the house. The car door opened, and Grandpa stepped out. Roger waved to Grandpa from his bedroom window. “Listen to this!” Taking a deep breath, he raised his drumsticks and began. He rocked. He rolled. He built to a lively and cheerful finish and ended with a crash of cymbals, just like Grandpa had taught him. Leaping up, Roger raced outside to Grandpa. “It was wonderful.” Grandpa said, giving Roger a hug. Then he went inside.
Sitting on the couch, Grandpa talked with Mom and played with baby Lucy. When Lucy threw her toy on the floor, Grandpa reached for it. He tried to pick it up, but the toy fell out of his hand. He tried again. The same thing happened. Roger hurried over to help and asked Grandpa to play drum together. “I’m sorry, Roger.” he apologized, “Not now.” So disappointed was Roger that he left without uttering a single word.
After lunch, Roger went to his room to get his skateboard. Grandpa was already inside, standing near the drum set. He picked up a drumstick and began to play. Tap! Tap! The drumstick clattered to the floor. Roger ran over, scooped it up and held it to the Grandpa. Grandpa rubbed his hand, his fingers red and swollen. “I can’t play today, Roger.” he said. As a result, this wastes time that could have been spent on more important tasks.(在找到最好的方法之前,你可能会避免开始一个新项目。 Perfectionism can damage your productivity, too.(完美主义也会损害你的效率。)符合语境,故选B。
⑤细节理解题。根据上文If you think that you have a problem with perfectionism, start by setting realistic goals.(如果你觉得自己有完美主义的问题,那就从设定现实的目标开始吧。)可知,本句主要针对现实目标进行举例,C选项中goals对应上文中goals。故C选项: Think about your most important life and career goals.(想想你最重要的人生目标和职业目标。)符合语境,故选C。

    解析:①考查主语从句。句意:对游客来说,登上泰山是一项挑战。引导主语从句,从句中缺少主语,指事情应用what,句首单词首字母要大写。故填What。
②考查动词不定式。句意:他们需要3到7个小时才能走完全程。此处为句型it takes sb. some time to do sth.表示"做某事花费某人多少时间"。故填to walk。

    33、答案:
    Dear fellow students,
I’m here to call on everyone to pay attention to the phenomenon of food waste. As is known to us, food is the first necessity for people, without which people cannot survive. Hence, it is high time that we should spare no effort to stop food waste.
Above all, we are supposed to raise the awareness of saving food. We must keep in mind that food is a precious resource and wasting food goes against the basic moral principles. Next, a good spending habit is also conducive to food protection. Thus, when dining out, we should not order too much, and try to eat up our food or take the leftovers home. What’s more, we can volunteer to persuade people around us not to waste food.
Many a little makes a mickle. Let’s take the responsibility to save food together.

    34、答案:
Later, an idea flashed through Roger’s mind. Rushing out of the room, he told Dad about his plan excitedly. He hoped Dad could drive him downtown. Dad gently patted his son on the back. He got the car keys and off they went. They sought from one store to another but there was no drum with a pedal. Suddenly, there came a rhythmic sound of drum from the opposite street. Following the sound, they found the exact drum they wanted in a store. Without hesitation, they merrily bought the drum home.
Roger and Dad walked up to Grandpa, carrying the drum with a pedal. After Dad fixed the drum beside Roger’s drum set, Roger pressed the pedal with his foot and yelled joyously. at Grandpa to try the drum. Slowly, Grandpa reached out his foot and pushed the pedal. Thump! Thump! He smiled. “Join in, Roger!” Roger grinned as he picked up his drumsticks. He rocked. He rolled. So did Grandpa. They nodded to the rhythm, making the whole house shake with music. The whole family was immersed in happiness.
