Text Analysis
The theme of this section is “Talk about your future plans”. This class has a strong focus on the grammatical rule, the present continuous tense for futurity. Therefore, the prime aim of this class is to guide students to use the present continuous tense to talk about their weekend plans. To achieve this, the grammar will be elaborated in the following two aspects:
1. When and how the present continuous tense is used when refer to the future.
2. The difference among be going to do, the simple future tense and the present continuous tense when expressing future plans or events.
02
Analysis of the students
The students are in the first semester of Senior 1. Firstly, in regard to the present continuous tense, they are familiar with the form of this tense(subject + ‘be’ +Ving) and skilled with using it to talk about activities at the moment of speaking. However, most of the students know little about it that this tense can also be used to describe future plans. Secondly, in terms of talking about future plans, they habitually use will/shall do or be going to do in their talking. Also, it is a very confusing concept for them that when to use will/shall do, the present continuous tense or be going to when they refer to the future.
