Show a picture. Present two sentences and then join them together with the word and. The sky is blue. Everything is beautiful. The sky is blue and everything is beautiful. 2. Show a second picture. Present two sentences and then join them together with the word but. The food is delicious. The baby doesn’t want to eat it. The food is delicious but the baby doesn’t want to eat it. Step 2 Grammar A 1. Show the students some sentences. Join them together with some conjunctions. Explain the usage of the conjunctions of and, but, or and so. (1)We use and to join ideas that are similar. I am active and energetic. I love working with people. =I am active and energetic, and I love working with people. (2)We use but to join ideas that are different. He does not like to talk much. His work shouts! =He does not like to talk much, but his work shouts! (3)We use or to introduce another possibility. I can be a good teacher. I can be a good doctor. = I can be a good teacher or a good doctor. 注意:In negative sentences, we use or to join two or more ideas. He does not like singing. He does not like dancing. = He does not like singing or dancing. (4)We use so to express the result of something. I want to share the best art with people. I am always searching for something better or different. = I want to share the best art with people, so I am always searching for something better or different. 注意:并列连词so和because 不能用于同一个句子中。 Because he is patient, he can be a teacher.(√) He is patient, so he can be a teacher. (√) Because he is patient, so he can be a teacher.(×) 2. Practice Deal with the exercise in Grammar A. (P12) Answers: 1. Kitty is kind, but sometimes she is impatient. 2. (4)The little boy is very young, so he knows few things. Step 3 Grammar B 1. Show sentences and join them together with the conjunctions. Give them more explanations. both... and ..., not only... but (also) ..., either... or... 和neither... nor...都是常见的并列连词,可以连接两个并列的主语、谓语、宾语、表语、状语等。We use these conjunctions to connect the same part of two sentences to avoid repetition. (1)both... and... 意为“……和……都;既……又……”,当both...and...连接两个主语时,谓语动词用复数形式。 I did all this both for you and for myself. 我做的这一切既是为了你也是为了我自己。 Both Li Ping and Wu Fang are league members. 李萍和吴芳都是团员。 (2)not only... but (also) ...意为“不但……而且……”, also可省略。当not only... but (also) ...连接两个名词作主语时,其谓语动词遵循“就近原则”。 Not only the students but (also) Mr Li has lunch at school.不仅学生而且李老师都在学校吃午饭。 We not only understand the text but also learn it by heart.我们不但要理解这篇课文而且要熟记于心。 (3)either... or... 意为“要么……要么……;或者……或者……”,用于连接两个表示选择关系的内容。当either... or...连接并列主语时,其谓语动词遵循“就近原则”。 You may either stay here or leave here.你要么待在这里要么离开。 Either you or I am going there tomorrow.或者是你,或者是我明天要去那里。 (4)neither... nor... 意为“既不……也不……”,具有否定含义。neither... nor...连接两个主语时,谓语动词遵循“就近原则”。 I will be free neither this Saturday nor this Sunday. 本周六和本周日我都没有空。 Neither Dad nor Mum is at home today.今天, 爸爸和妈妈都不在家。 2.
