[2021·昆明市高三三诊一模]Time flies. Youth fades. Treasure each moment of your life accompanied by guitar and drums, the Band for One, made up of five people, sang the lyrics(歌词) soulfully during a performance in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, on November 72020.

Behind the band, there was a picture of a young man named Philip Hancock shown on the screen. And he is the reason why they were all there. Hancock was a 27yearold Australian who taught English in Chongqing. When he died in 2018 due to a disease, his parents followed his wishes and donated his organs.

The five people introduced themselves onstage. They are the ones who received Philip's organs. Last November, the Red Cross officials told me Philip's parents mentioned during an earlier memorial service that he loved music and dreamed of having his own band one day said Chen Xianjun, a recipient (接受者). Chen was instantly on board to form a band in memory of Philip, and so were the other four recipients.

Since they had no music experience, they had to start__from__scratch. From learning the guitar, to mastering the maracas and taking on the drums, they took time out of their busy lives to practice over the past year. Peter Hancock, Philip's father, said after watching the band's performance, his biggest wish is for the five to enjoy their lives more.

Organ donation is not only the best way to honor a loved one, but also a remarkable way to save the lives of others. China faces a serious shortage of organs, with about 300000 people waiting for organ transplant surgeries each year. But the good news is, more and more people have been signing up to be organ donors, showing the spirit of selflessness that Philip and so many others have shown.

1Why did the five people form the band?

ATo compete in a singing performance.

BTo show their respect for Peter Hancock.

CTo raise money for the local Red Cross.

DTo express their appreciation to Philip.

2How long did it take the recipients to prepare for the performance ?

    AOne year.      BTwo years.

    CThree years.      DFive years.

3What do the underlined words “start from scratch” in paragraph 4 mean?

    Alose interest in music

    Bpractice from the very beginning

    Ctake part in training courses

Dturn to some musicians for help

4What can we learn from the last paragraph?

ACitizens are encouraged to donate organs.

BOrgan donation is the best way to save lives.

CThe author thinks highly of organ donation.

DFew people are willing to donate their organs.

[2021·济南外国语模拟] You've heard of the fat suit and the pregnancy suit, now meet AGNESthe old person suit.

AGNES stands for Age Gain Now Empathy (换位体验) System and was designed by researchers at MIT's AgeLab to let you know what it feels like — physically — to be 75 years old.The business of old age demands new tools said Joseph Coughlin, director of the AgeLab. While focus groups and observations and surveys can help you understand what the older consumer needs and wants, young marketers never get that Ah ha moment of having difficulty opening a jar, or getting in and out of a car. That's what AGNES provides.

Coughlin and his team carefully adjusted the suit to make the wearer just as uncomfortable as an old person who has spent a lifetime eating poorly and not doing much exercise. Special shoes provide a feeling of imbalance, while braces on the knees and elbows limit joint mobility. Gloves give the feeling of decreased strength and mobility in the hands and wrists, and earplugs make it difficult to hear highpitched sounds and soft tones. A helmet with straps () attached to it presses the spine (脊柱)

AGNES has been used most recently by a group of students working on a design of an__updated__walker. By wearing the suit they could see for themselves what design and materials would make the most sense for a physically limited older person. Coughlin said the suit has also been used by clothing companies, car companies and retail goods companies to help them understand the limitations of an older consumer. An unexpected benefit they've found with AGNES is that it has become a powerful tool to get younger people to invest in their longterm health.

5AGNES has been developed mainly to ________

    Amake the users more comfortable

Blet people understand the old better

Chelp old people move more quickly

Dremind the young to take care of their health

6According to the article, young marketers never ________

Afeel the same way as old people do

Bsee the efforts old people make to put on clothes

Cask what old people need and want

Dsay Ah ha when they meet with difficulty

7The third paragraph mainly talks about ________

    Ahow researchers feel wearing AGNES

    Bhow AGNES has been developed

Chow people act when they are old

    Dhow AGNES works

8The underlined phrase “an updated walker” in the last paragraph most likely refers to ________

    Asomeone who travels a lot

    Ba physically limited old person

Csome equipment that helps old people walk

Da company providing service to the old

[2021·成都市第二次诊断] Open a book by any philosopher and you'll probably read that a meaningful life has to involve achieving something difficult. That's because many philosophers are perfectionists when it comes to the meaning of life. It's not just philosophers, either. Perfectionism is one of the main reasons why people tend to believe their lives are meaningless. __1__ If they aren't doing something absolutely amazing, then life has no meaning.

__2__ So the conclusion is obvious: most lives are meaningless. Right? Not really. Dig a little deeper, and perfectionism falls apart. Actually you don't need to be a perfectionist about the meaning of life. Life would be fantastic if everything was perfect. But something doesn't need to be perfect to be fantastic. __3__

For one, it's pretty inconsistently applied most of the time. People who are perfectionists about the meaning of life often don't apply it to other areas of their lives. __4__ For example, perfectionists don't think they're a failure if they don't get a hundred percent on every test. So isn't it also absurd to apply that kind of standard to the meaning of life?

It doesn't end there. The demands that perfectionists place on themselves and others are actually really unrealistic. And that means they can only lead to disappointment. __5__ It would be similarly odd to call one of your friends a huge failure because he can't achieve as much in a day as a superman. And it's exactly the logic perfectionism when it is claimed that our lives have to be extraordinary in some way to have meaning.

AThey see life as a allornothing situation.

BWe don't expect a dog to drive a car.

CThis leads to lots of double standards.

DYou're unlikely to be satisfied with any result.

EAnd there are actually a few problems with perfectionism.

FHowever, most of us aren't an Einstein or a Mother Teresa.

GThey'd probably dismiss the ideas like that as absurd, in fact.
