    阅读下列短文,从每题所给的ABCD四个选项中选出最佳选项。

    A

During my study in Czech, one of the things that I have learned is that Czech people are really good at celebrating and holding parties. Since I graduated this yearthe greatest event for us was definitely the senior prom(毕业年级舞会). Girls stared arranging their clothes a year beforehand. Graduating students also needed to give their "Midnight Surprise" (a group performance). One interesting thing was that students from every class were holding a huge colorful bag and people had to throw money into it. I didn’t get any sleep that night because we all went to an after-party with our teachers and friends.

At the end of April, we held the traditional activity called "The Last Ringing", which lasted for two days. Every class had a theme and seniors wore different costumes. We prepared tasty deserts to sell. We broke into one classroom after another asking students to give us money, which might seem insane but it is part of the tradition.

By the end of May,we had already finished all of the final exams and we started preparing for the graduation ceremony. It was held in the conference hall in our school. We got our graduation certificate from our teacher, and shook hands with the headmaster. When I received my certificate, I was close to tears —I didn't want to say goodbye to the people or to the school.

That wasn't the last celebration though. After four days, our class invited all of our teachers to come to a farewell dinner at an Italian restaurant. We used all of the money we collected from the prom and "The Last Ringing" to order pizzas and champagne. We all talked and ate together.

A year ago, we were all complaining and hoping that high school would end. But I felt sad when the time finally came. We have officially left our school. I keep telling myself that everything has an ending. This journey was amazing. Although it has come to an end, I will always keep the memories.

    21. Why did students hold a huge colorful bag on the prom?

    A. To raise money for the last celebration.

    B. To store money from tickets for the prom.

    C. To collect money to cover after-party fees.

    D. To get money to prepare "The Last Ringing".

22.What does the underlined word "insane" in Paragraph 2 mean?

    A. Violent          B. Crazy

    C. Dangerous       D. Impossible

    23. What's the author's purpose of writing the text?

A.To show the precious friendship in high school.

B.To express the sadness of graduating from high school.

      C. To introduce Czech high school graduation celebrations.

D.To share wonderful memories of the senior year in high school.

Antoine de Saint-Exupéry was a French writer and pilot who used his life experiences to write his publications. The Little Prince is one of his most famous books, selling about 140 million copies worldwide, which makes it one of the best-selling and most translated books ever published. Born in Lyon, France in 1900, Saint-Exupéry's family was filled with nobility. His father was a manager of an insurance company who died when Saint-Exupéry was very young.

In 1915, Saint-Exupéry joined a high school in Switzerland. Due to his poor performance in class, Saint-Exupéry didn't graduate from the boarding school in 1917. As he had difficulty setting on a career path, Saint-Exupéry began to fly as a pilot again in 1926. It turned out that he was a successful pilot and made great contributions to his country during World War Ⅱ. Saint-Exupéry's last flight was on 31 July,1944. He left on a wartime mission over occupied France, from which he was never seen again.

Saint-Exupéry was honoured by the French in France and the French region of Quebec, Canada. His portraits appeared on the 50-franc notes and 100-franc coins before the introduction of the euro in France. In Lyon, his birthplace, the city's international airport was named after him.

Frozen 2 sees the return of Elsa and Anna. This time, the Queen of Arendelle and her sister are intended to save the kingdom. The film, adding different topics and making breakthroughs, has won greater popularity.

One big change since the first movie is what the leading women are wearing. Elsa and Anna branch out by wearing tights, not just skirts. It's rare to see Disney princesses in anything other than traditionally woman-style clothes. Director Jennifer Lee said the move represented contemporary attitudes. "Everyone sort of represents when the film was made and what the film's trying to show," she said. "And that's right for these two women, who are carrying the weight of the kingdom. I love you can wear anything.

President of Walt Disney Animation Studios Clark Spencer thought it important to design what Elsa and Anna wear carefully. "This time, they don't have to flee their kingdom in the wrong dress," said Spencer. "They're going on a big adventure. It's going to be very physical. It makes the audience aware there is more than one way to be a princess."

Pants are just the beginning. Another noticeable topic is the role of the environment, which helps them on their adventure when it feels respected and hurts them when threatened. What the filmmakers really talked about is that the ecosystem is a big serious issue, according to Lee. "Climate change and nature out of balance might give Elsa the real purpose. Could that be why she has this power? That's something most of us talk about. But a core(核心的)theme of the movie is the idea of not trying to force the environment into your world," she said. "Every character is connected to this idea of respecting the strength and changes of the environment and taking care of the world around you."

    28. Why does the director change Elsa's and Anna's wear?

A.To show the background of the movie.

    B. To increase the film’s popularity.

    C. To express the idea of dressing freedom.

    D. To reflect the trend of the times.

29.What might Clark Spencer think of the wear's change?

    A.It’s a wrong choice.   B.It makes sense.

    C. It's a risky decision   D. It caters to the audience

    30. What is the movie intended to do by using the role of the environment?

    A. Shape a character who helps the leading roles.

    B. Indicate potential dangers of climate change.

    C. Explain the source of Elsa’s magical strength.

    D. Show the importance to respect nature’s power.

    31. In which section of the website might the text appear?

    A.Entertainment    B. Life & Style.

    C. Environment     D. Fashion & Clothing

    D

On November 18, 2020, state workers who were tracking sheep were flying over the Utah desert in a helicopter. They noticed an object that is called monolith later, and landed nearby to see what it was. It was a shiny, three-sided metal column about 3.7 meters tall and planted solidly in the middle of the desert.

Bret Hutchings, who flew the helicopter, said,"I have to admit, that's been about the strangest thing that I've come across out there in all the years of flying. "The shape of the monolith and its strange appearance in the desert has reminded people of a black monolith in the science fiction movie 2001: A Space Odyssey. In that movie, the monolith was also unexplained, but it appeared to have been created by creatures from another world.

Some people say that the monolith appears to be similar to artwork created by some well-known artists. But one of the possible artists died in 2011. Two others have said that the work is not theirs.

Still, people working for the government believe that the monolith was most likely put there as an art project. But they note that it was quite a difficult task. The monolith is in a hard-to-reach spot somewhere in the 93,000 square kilometers of Utah land managed by the US Bureau of Land Management(BLM). Delivering the column that seems valuable to that location in the traditional way would have required moving very heavy materials. They must have thought of other ways.

One metal statue in the desert may not cause too many problems for the sheep, but what if lots of people decide to visit the site? That's one reason the BLM hasn't released where it is. The BLM is also afraid that the monolith might encourage other artists to plant other similar artworks in the desert. That's something that the department doesn't want to happen. Anyway, the government still hasn't decided whether to remove the monolith or let it remain.

    32. Why did the author mention the science fiction movie?

    A. To explain the film was imaginary.

    B. To show the monolith is strange.

    C. To make the text more interesting.

    D. To prove what Bret said was true.

    33. Which best describes the process of the monolith's delivery to the location?

    A. Dangerous.      B. Costly.      C. Smooth.     D. Unknown.

    34. What has the BLM decided to do with the monolith?

    A. Keep its location secret.       B. Get it removed at once.

    C. Preserve it as an artwork.     D. Make it a tourist attraction.

    35. What's the best title for the text?

    A. Metal Column Planted in the Ground

    B. Unusual Monolith Found in the Desert

    C. Monolith Presenting Strange Appearance

    D. Man-made Column Drawing Attention

September 23 marks the start of a new season.  36    In Great Britain, the third season of the year usually has only one name: autumn. But if you travel across the Atlantic, you'll find that people use both fall and autumn interchangeably when referring to this time of year, making it the only season in the English language with two widely accepted names.   37

According to Dictionary.com, fall isn't a modern name that followed the more traditional autumn. The two terms are actually first recorded within a few hundred years of each other, with the term fall being used even a bit earlier.

38   The word is of Germanic origin and meant" picking" or"collecting", a nod to the act of gathering and preserving crops in the field before winter. In the 1500s, English speakers began referring to the season separating the hot and cold months as either the fall of the leaf or the spring of the leaf, or fall and spring for short.   39    By the end of the 1600s, autumn, from the French word "automne" and the Latin" autumnus", had overtaken fall as the standard British term for the third season.

Around the same time England adopted autumnthe first-ever British American colonists(殖民者)were voyaging to North America.   40  While the former fell out of fashion overseas, it established itself in the local vocabulary by the time America won its independence. Today, using both words to describe the season before winter is still a unique American behavior.

    A. The Americans prefer using fall to using autumn.

    B. With them they brought the words fall and autumn.

    C. So what is it about the season that makes it so special?

    D. But for some reason, only spring had staying power in Britain.

    E. It is time to gather apples, rice and other things for the farmers.

    F. However, what exactly you should call that season depends on where you are.

    G. Before either word appeared, the season between summer and winter was known as harvest.

It was a cold winter night in New York. I was a little scared because I had just moved into a new house; I had seen a mouse. I'm scared of mice. However, the really bad thing about shifting was that I didn't have even one friend. There was something good, though. In the former house, I had to share a bathroom with other people, which I didn’t like. In this house, I have my own bathroom.

Today was my first day of school, and the streets to school were very nice; they were like ice rinks (溜冰场) covered with snow. When I reached school, I felt nervous as I was entering middle school without a friend. At first there was a history class in which I knew a girl named Alice. Alice had yellow hair, skin which was as white as milk, and eyes as blue as the sky. She looked at me and asked me if I would like to be her friend. She looked sweet and friendly, so I said"yes". I was enthusiastic, but when we left for break, I saw something that I did not like—some guys were threatening and bullying(欺负)Alice.

On seeing this, I told the guys, "Don't say that to her."

"Who are you to tell me what to say?” one of the guys said.

Alice felt extremely bad and went running and crying. When she ran away, I tried to follow her, but I could not catch up and lost her. She disappeared into one of the many rooms. After a while of searching, I thought to look in the cafeteria and saw her sitting and crying. Just when I was going to try to calm her, the bell rang, and she hurried away.

    Cood morning everyone,

I'm glad to report our group's opinions about the topic " Wild Animal Protection". Firstly, there's no doubt that wild animals should be protected strictly. They are of great importance to ecological balance. However, at the present time, some of them are facing the danger of dying out. Then, how can we protect them? Some laws must be passed to stop people killing and selling them. Besides, people should not be allowed to consume wildlife.

Let's appreciate the importance of their protection and remember the serious lesson that some diseases have taught us. Protecting them means protecting ourselves.

    Thank you.

I did not know what to do. I was very worried, so my decision was to call the police.

When the police arrived, the guys who were bullying Alice were caught. We all had to go to the school office. I was in the office as a witness. Alice was a victim, and those who bullied her were guilty. When my parents arrived, they felt proud of me. Alice told her parents everything. She was extremely grateful and kept thanking me. From that day on, I got a best friend for life, and Alice learned how to defend herself.
