1. Talk abut Beijing Opera
(1) Ask the students if they have watched Beijing Opera and what their experiences were. Write these examples n the bard.
(2) Discuss the questins as a class. Ensure that all students get a chance t answer the questins.
(3) Instruct students t wrk independently and match the phts with the descriptins.
(4) Discuss the answers as a class.
2. Listen and tick.
(1) Ask a vlunteer student t read the fur aspects. Explain any unknwn terms.
(2) Instruct students t tick the aspects that are mentined as they listen t the radi prgramme.
3. Listen again and answer questins.
(1) Explain t students that they will listen t the radi prgramme nce mre, and this time t listen fr details.
(2) Preview the questins with the students.
(3) Suggest that students underline r take ntes as they listen.
(4) Students wrk independently r in pairs t answer the questins in full sentences.
(5) Check answers as a class. If needed, replay the radi prgramme and pint ut the different features f Beijing Opera.
4. Listen again, take ntes, and answer questins.
(1) Read alud the instructin and the Skill Builder. Then read each questin. Explain any difficult wrds.
(2) In pairs, students discuss the answers.
(3) While the radi prgramme is playing, students check and cmplete their answers.
(4) Discuss the answers as a class.
5. Listen again. List key phrases and talk abut whether yu like Beijing Opera.
(1) In pairs, students listen and take ntes f the key phrases used by Dr. Liu t give reasns.
(2) Review the answers as a class.
(3) Create a class discussin n the students’ pinin f Beijing Opera. Each student needs t prvide their pinin and supprt with lgical reasning.
6. Intrduce Beijing Opera.
(1) Divide students int five grups. Each grup discusses ne f the tpics in relatin t Beijing Opera: the fur rles, cstumes and masks, sund and singing, histry and interesting features.
(2) Each grup selects ne persn t be the scribe and write dwn ntes fr the grup.
(3) Each student in the grup describes the chsen tpic. The scribe can mind map this infrmatin.
(4) Each grup writes a few cmplete sentences abut their tpic n Beijing Opera using these descriptins.
(5) A vlunteer frm the grup reads this passage t the class, rle playing that he r she is intrducing Beijing Opera t a grup f freign students.
(6) The class can ask questins abut the tpic and members frm the grup can help t answer the questins.
7. Listen and answer.
(1) Read the instructin and questins alud t the students.
(2) Play the dialgue.
(3) In pairs, students answer the questins in full sentences.
(4) If needed, play the dialgue a secnd time. Give the students time t cmplete the answers.
(5) Discuss the answers as a class.
8. Listen, imitate, and talk abut emtins.
(1) Read alud the instructin and the Talk Builder bx as a class. Explain any unknwn terms.
(2) Ask students t give a persnal example f an emtin, either satisfactin, wrry r regret.

c. Hw can yur facial features r tne f vice shw these emtins?
Students can use their dictinaries, if needed.
(3) Tell students that they will listen t the dialgue fr mre detail.
(4) As students listen t the dialgue, they need t identify the emtin fr each sentence in the brackets.
(5) Review the answers as a class.
9. Pair Wrk: Act it ut.
(1) Explain t students that they will be watching a shrt lcal pera. Students need t take ntes f the rles, cstumes and masks, sund and singing, histry and interesting features. Play nly sme parts f the prepared vide, either frm TV r frm nline resurces.
(2) Divide the class int pairs. Tell students that they will rle play a dialgue between a Chinese student and a freign student.
(3) Student A is rle playing a Chinese student, wh understands the different elements f pera. Student B is rle playing a freign student, wh des nt understand pera and asks questins.
(4) In pairs, students first write dwn five questins that a freign student wuld ask abut the pera; then students prvide respnses in a script frmat.
(5) Students can practise their rle play and perfrm it fr the class.
