But in raw lbsters, the redness f the astaxanthin is cvered by the dark blue clr f anther chemical in the shell, crustacyanin (虾青蛋白).The darker clr helps lbsters avid enemies in the wild. And it is likely t have evlved (进化) by natural selectin.
Hwever, when heated, the structure f crustacyanin changes. This makes the red clr f astaxanthin stand ut.
This is similar t the changing clrs f tree leaves in autumn. Leaves always cntain the pigments that make them red, range and yellw. But fr mst f the year, thse pigments are cvered by the bright green clr f chlrphyll (叶绿素). In autumn, when the temperature cls and the sun’s light becmes weak, chlrphyll fades t make these warm-clred pigments visible (看得见的).
“It is a scientific curisity (神奇), but it may als have imprtant uses in the real wrld,” said Jhn Helliwell, the lead scientist, t The Daily Telegraph. “It culd help peple knw when fd has been cked prperly.”

16、 Is It Better t Read Bks r Listen t Them?
We ften think hw fast we learn smething depends n hw smart we are. If yur brain is taking in material quickly, yu’re clever; if nt, well, that desn’t say great things abut yur IQ. But science shws cntext (上下文) and technique (技术) actually play a big rle in hw fast we learn, and even small changes – like the way yu use t read – can make a big difference.
Audi (音频的) bks have plenty f advantages: yu can enjy them anywhere, even in the car, and nt printing bks saves trees. Pr readers als ften find them mre interesting. But accrding t the latest research, if yur gal isn’t t pass the time in traffic, but instead t learn smething difficult, yu shuld chse a physical bk.
In a recent pinin piece in the New Yrk Times, psychlgy (心理学) prfessr Daniel T.Willingham mentined a 2010 study where 48 students either read r listened t an article abut child psychlgy. Althugh the students spent the same amunt f time with their material and did abut the same number f distracting (分散注意力) activities while they absrbed the infrmatin, they scred very differently n a 10-item quiz later. Generally, the readers scred 81 percent but while the listeners scred 59 percent. Why des listening vs reading material have such a great effect n learning?
Willingham explains that first, mst f us read mre slwly than we listen (especially when pausing and rereading), and when yu’re trying t absrb new infrmatin, slwer seems t be better. “Abut 10 t 15 percent f eye mvements during reading are actually regressive – meaning the eyes are ging back and re-checking,” he explains t TIME. “This happens very quickly…”
Secnd, bks ffer visual cues (可视线索) that help ur brains rganize and understand new infrmatin. Things like chapter breaks, subheadings, and lists help us in making sense f the material and understanding hw it fits tgether. Yu lse all that when yu g the audi way.
The bttm line is simple: Dn’t feel shame abut passing yur time in traffic with an audi bk. Hwever, be aware f audi’s limitatins when it cmes t studying, and seriusly cnsider chsing gd ld-fashined reading instead.
      1.Accrding t the writer, yu shuld chse t read a bk t ______.
A.take in the infrmatinB.pass the time in traffic
      C.learn smething difficultD.rganize new infrmatin
2.A “physical bk” in Paragraph 2 prbably means “______”.
A.an audi bkB.a bk abut physics
C.a bk abut cmputerD.a bk made f paper r clth
3.What can we learn frm the passage?
A.T read a bk is better than t listen t it.
      B.Readers are cleverer than listeners.
C.Reading bks is a gd way t pass time.
D.Hw fast we learn depends n hw smart we are.
