Everything was great — until it wasn’t. It tk me a while t ntice things were changing. My belved
magazines were struggling t survive. The editrs, phtgraphers, and publicatins I admired were being elbwed
ut by Instagram influencers and YuTube tutrials. These changes I culd live with. I had spent my life adapting.
What prved harder t accept were changes inside my wn cmpany. Fr years, I built my csmetics (化妆品)
brand, and my message was direct — be yurself, nly better. Hwever, as the cmpany expanded wrldwide, a
new management team brught a strnger fcus n glbal trends and prfits. Meetings grew larger and mre
frmal, dminated by charts and frecasts instead f cnversatins abut real custmers. While I understd the
need fr grwth, I sensed that ur riginal visin was slwly fading.
The turning pint came during a discussin abut gaining a bigger share f the Asian market. Managers
pinted ut that skin-whitening was a tp-selling categry there. “If we dn’t enter it,” they said, “we wn’t remain
cmpetitive.” Their reasning was practical and data-driven.
But the suggestin unsettled me deeply. Fr mre than twenty years, I had encuraged wmen t chse
fundatin that matched their natural skin tne. Launching a whitening prduct seemed t cntradict everything I
std fr. I cnsider myself a reasnable persn, but I’m a fighter when I believe in smething. S instead f
rejecting the idea utright, I asked questins. Why did custmers want whitening cream? The answer was that they
      wanted brighter-lking skin.
That distinctin mattered. Brightening skin t enhance its glw was nt the same as changing its clr. After
lng discussins, we reached an agreement: we wuld create a brightening prduct fcused n glw, nt n making
skin lighter. I insisted that ur message wuld never suggest wmen needed t alter wh they were.
The experience taught me that business expansin ften tests persnal principles. Fllwing trends may
increase prfits, but prtecting cre values builds lasting trust. Even as the wrld changed arund me, I remained
cmmitted t the belief that true beauty des nt require becming smene else.
      24. Accrding t the first tw paragraphs, what trubled the authr mst?
      A. Media evlutin. B. Market cmpetitin.
      C. Crprate shifts. D. Online trends.
      25. What des the underlined wrd “it” refer t in Paragraph 3?
      A. The discussin. B. The Asian market.
      C. The reasning. D. The skin-whitening categry.
      第 5页/共 13页
      26. Hw did the authr eventually bridge the gap with the managers?
      A. By priritizing data. B. By fllwing the trends.
      C. By changing the prduct’s gal. D. By ffering mre chices.
      27. What is the passage mainly abut?
      A. Business expansin ften results in high csts.
      B. Staying true t neself is essential in business.
      C. Marketing pwer is key t reaching glbal custmers.
      D. Surviving the digital age requires cnstant adaptatin.

A fake jb advertisement that’s gne viral nline recently says Open AI is lking fr a “kill switch” engineer.
The jb descriptin requires the successful applicant t stand by servers all day and unplug them “if this thing turns
n us”. Useful skills include the ability t “thrw a bucket f water n the servers, t”
Despite widespread fears f jb lsses wing t the rise f AI agents, it is nt all black humur. The
technlgy is already creating new rles — t train agents, integrate them in rganizatins and ensure that they
behave. These new rles start with AI trainers. N lnger are they lw-paid data anntatrs repetitively tagging
images. As AI mdels have becme mre advanced, prfessinals in subjects such as finance, law and medicine
have increasingly been enlisted t help train AI system. Once rbts are trained, teams f s-called AI integratrs
are needed t integrate them int rganizatins. In practice, their jbs are a blend f develper, cnsultant and
      salesman.
Himanshu Palsule, chief executive f Crnerstne OnDemand, uses Waym, a fast-grwing rbtaxi firm, as
an example f hw the jb f a develper is evlving. Waym’s cars drive themselves frm start t finish. But what
if they break dwn, lcking their passengers inside? Then cmes the need fr what he calls “the guy in the sky”, a
remte human trubleshter wh needs t understand nt just the technlgy, but als hw t handle exhausted
passengers. Himanshu Palsule says, “Things are different. Writing cde can nw be dne by an algrithm (算法).
Yur persnality is where yur value is.”
Respnsible fr bringing all these rles tgether is the chief AI fficer, an additin t the tp-management as
chief executives have t assure their bards that they are taking the technlgy very seriusly. Chief AI fficers
usually cmbine technical expertise with deep knwledge f a particular industry and a recrd f updating
crprate prcesses. It is a jb fr strng-hearted peple. Yet, under such pressure, even they may feel the urge t
      reach fr a “kill switch”.
      第 6页/共 13页
      28. What is the main duty f a “kill switch” engineer?
      A. T fix brken AI servers quickly. B. T design a new kind f AI server.
      C. T stp AI systems in case f danger. D. T train AI agents t wrk efficiently.
      29. What d we knw abut tday’s AI trainers?
      A. They are lw-paid wrkers. B. They sell AI tls t custmers.
      C. They have replaced AI integratrs. D. They are experts frm diverse fields.
      30. What can we infer frm Palsule’s wrds in Paragraph 3?
      A. Humanity is mre valuable than cding skills.
      B. Machines are mre difficult t handle than peple.
      C. Sftware engineers shuld develp better algrithms.
      D. Persnal experience matters mre than academic ability.
      31. What is the purpse f the last paragraph?
      A. T intrduce ways t stp dangerus AI.
      B. T highlight human leadership in the AI era.
      C. T summarize the challenges f sftware engineers.
      D. T explain the necessity f the “kill switch” engineer.

Fr decades, a grup f naturally well-preserved mummies (木乃伊) discvered in the deserts f nrthwestern
China puzzled archaelgists and histrians, but nw, ancient DNA has shed new light n wh these peple really
      were.
Mst f the mummies were unearthed in the 1990s in what is nw the Xinjiang Uyghur Autnmus Regin.
The rigins f hundreds f mummified bdies buried in wden bat-like cffins (棺材) in the harsh envirnment
f China’s Tarim Basin have since sparked intense debate. These mre than 4,000-year-ld mummies remain
astnishingly undamaged, featuring Western facial features and finely wven wlen clthes. Their unusual grave
gds — including cheese and wheat — initially led researchers t believe they were herders frm the western
grasslands r farmers frm Central Asia wh had migrated int the regin.
Hwever, a cmprehensive DNA analysis has turned that lng-standing thery n its head. A team f
scientists frm China, Eurpe, and the United States examined the genes f 13 f these mummies. T their surprise,
the results shwed that the remains did nt belng t newly arrived utsiders. Instead, the mummies were the direct
descendants f a lng-islated lcal ppulatin linked t an ancient Ice Age family line — a grup that had largely
      第 7页/共 13页
disappeared elsewhere nearly 10,000 years ag.
“Nt nly are these mummies exceptinally well-preserved, but they represent an extremely genetically
islated lcal ppulatin that maintained its identity fr thusands f years,” said Christina Warinner, a prfessr f
anthrplgy at Harvard University. Despite that, they were far frm clsed-ff. They appeared t enthusiastically
embrace new ideas and technlgies, adpting farming and dairy practices frm their neighbrs while maintaining
      their unique burial traditins.
Michael Frachetti, an anthrplgy prfessr, nted the paradx: “We see a cmmunity that was culturally
well-integrated — drawing frm diverse traditins — yet genetically they remained remarkably distinct.” This
research highlights a vital histrical lessn: genetics desn’t always crrespnd t cultural exchange. Peple can
adpt new ways f life withut necessarily mving r mixing with thers, prving that human histry is far mre
      cmplex than nce imagined.
      32. What made researchers previusly think the mummies were migrants?
      A. Their physical lks and everyday items. B. The lcatin where they were unearthed.
      C. The harsh envirnment they lived in. D. The way they were placed in cffins.
      33. What did the DNA study reveal abut the mummies?
      A. They were native residents frm the far past.
      B. They came frm Central Asia during the Ice Age.
      C. Their genes match thse f the mdern ppulatin.
      D. Their genetic makeup helped them stay in gd cnditin.
      34. What is the “paradx” Frachetti mentins in the last paragraph?
      A. Traditinal cntinuity despite genetic mixing. B. Remarkable preservatin despite their age.
      C. Cultural penness but genetic distinctness. D. New lifestyles but n physical migratin.
      35. Which f the fllwing is the best title fr the text?
      A. Ftsteps f Ancient Migrants B. The Desert Mummies Have Spken
      C. The Remarkable Mummies in China D. Silent Sands Guarded a Hidden Mystery

      第 8页/共 13页
      until yu succeed.
      Never Share Yur Gals
Many students ludly annunce their targets — what scre they want, r which rank they dream f. But
sharing yur gals weakens the inner tensin that pushes yu t wrk harder. Befre yu talk abut them, yur

____37____ That temprary high makes yu feel as if yu’ve already achieved smething, reducing the hunger that
      actually leads t achievement.
      Never Share Yur Prgress
____38____ When smene asks, just say, “It’s ging n.” Revealing yur prgress harms yu. Once yu
share it, peple immediately start judging r suggesting changes: “Use this bk.” “Fllw my timetable.” Yu
begin dubting yur wn strategy, even if it was wrking well. There’s n perfect plan — nly cnsistent effrts.
Dn’t Share Yur Fears With Cmpanins
Every student carries silent struggles — family pressure, financial stress, emtinal pain. Sharing yur fears
with anther student rarely helps because they are already verwhelmed by their wn wrries. ____39____ Talk
instead t a mentr, a trusted family member, r write privately.
Yur exam preparatin is a persnal jurney. Prtect yur fcus. ____40____. The calmer yu stay, the better
      yur exam results will be.
      A. Let silence wrk fr yu.
      B. Exam pressure can help yu stay fcused.
      C. Dn’t mentin hw much revisin yu’ve dne.
      D. Yu will receive instant praise that gives yu a burst f excitement.
      E. Keeping yur gals t yurself is ne f the best ways t stay mtivated.

      G. They can’t ffer the emtinal supprt, and versharing ften leads t regret.

The Labr Day hliday was just arund the crner, and the schl launched a “Campus Renewal” prject.
Class 12 gt the tughest jb — repainting the ld basketball curt. Its lines had faded and were hardly visible,
and the wden spectatr benches were rugh and wrn.
T make it meaningful, the teacher paired students wh didn’t nrmally wrk tgether. Le, a quiet by wh
always had his nse in a bk, was partnered with Ethan, the ftball team captain — lud, cnfident, and used t

“Perfect,” Ethan said. “I’ll take the big brush. Yu d the tiny edges.”
Le wanted t prtest. He had watched painting vides the night befre and knew they shuld first prtect the
edges with tape. But befre he culd speak, Ethan gt the brush wet, splashing range paint nt the wall.
“Wait!” Le tried t hld him back. “Relax, bkwrm,” Ethan interrupted, swinging the brush against the
wall. Paint flew everywhere — n the wall, n the grund and nt the bench beside them.
Le’s jaw tightened. He grabbed a small brush and knelt t fix the edges Ethan was ignring. Fr the next
twenty minutes, they existed in tw different wrlds. Ethan attacked the large areas with wild energy, leaving thick
drps and uneven spts. Le carefully traced the edges f the benches, his wrk neat but painfully slw.
When Ethan finally stpped t admire his wrk, he turned and frze. The bench beside him was cvered in
range dts. The grund was a mess f ftprints. His sectin f the wall lked like a strm had swept thrugh it.
The afternn sun was beginning t set.
“Uh…” Ethan whispered. Le std up, lked at the disaster, and said nthing. But his silence spke luder
