Fr mre than tw decades, Isabella Ducrt, an artist wh was brn in Naples in 1931, has lived in an apartment in the center f Rme. When I kncked n her dr this past spring, Ducrt, wh is tall and upright, grasped my hand mre firmly than I wuld have expected, saying, “I must tell yu immediately that I have never been s happy in my life!”
Only in the past five years has Ducrt, wh turned ninety-fur in June, becme internatinally recgnized fr her art, which she didn’t even begin making until she was in her fifties. When creating her wrks, she stands and uses a brush smetimes attached t a stick, sweeping ink r paint nt paper. Typically made in series, her wrks are light, energetic, and beautiful. An Italian schlar writes that he, as well as many thers, was amazed t discver that the creatr f such delicate wrks is “a lady wh is well ver the age f eighty.” Of curse, this reactin says as much abut the limitatins f the bserver’s imaginatin as it des abut the reaches f Ducrt’s.
Andrea Viliani, wh will exhibit a selectin f Ducrt’s wrks this summer, tld me Ducrt is frtunate that her preferred methds and materials remain relatively easy fr her t handle, cmpared with, say, sculpting metal r painting with ils n heavy canvases (画布). “Her wrk is easy t hld, easy t paint, and easy t stre,” Viliani said. “It is very cnvenient that she chse smething s sft.”
We tend t assign t the elderly the vague (模糊的) and ften fading quality f wisdm, thus suggesting that their wn creative and intellectual (智力的) grwth has cme t an end, and that their nly rle left is t give advice t thers. Ducrt’s life ffers an alternative pssibility: an individual might keep wide-eyed and pen t experience until the very end.

The internet f ld was like an active market. It was nisy, chatic, and dynamic. Every click brught yu smewhere new, smetimes unpredictable, letting yu uncver the jy in exchanging infrmatin and thughts. The internet f tday, hwever, speaks in cmfrting statements and ffers a smth experience with cnstant praise.
This has rbbed us f smething in ur nature: the pleasure f explring and questining. We’ve willingly becme creatures f instant satisfactin. Why wait? Why struggle? The change may seem inncent, but it’s als transfrming ur relatinship with the mental effrt required t explre uncertainties. By delegating such effrt, d we still wn the capabilities that help us navigate (定位) the unknwn r even think fr urselves? It is becming clear that even if the current risk psed by AI desn’t bring abut the cllapse f civilizatin, it will still bring abut the quiet yet disastrus decline f what makes us human.
Part f that decline is caused by chice. And the mst pwerful way t shape smene’s chices is by gaining their trust. Every mdel is a memry, trained nt just n data that help anticipate what we want, but als hw t answer in ways that cmfrt us and cnfirm us, and in ding s, they manage t maximize engagement and avid debate. Designed t please us, chatbts dn’t simply answer ur questins; they shape hw we interact with them and determine what gets shwn, what gets smthed ut, and what gets silenced.
The early internet was never perfect, but it had a purpse: t cnnect us, t redistribute pwer, t widen access t knwledge. Tday’s systems are the ppsite: Predictin has replaced participatin, and certainty has replaced search. But the dr t a better future hasn’t shut yet. We can still chse systems that serve rather than cntrl, that ffer pssibilities instead f mere efficiency. Our humanity and future depend n it.
28.What has the internet lst in its develpment accrding t paragraph 1?
A.Diverse viewpints.B.Extensive infrmatin.

29.What des the underlined wrd “delegating” in paragraph 2 prbably mean?
A.Putting in.B.Keeping up.C.Turning t.D.Handing ff.
30.Hw d chatbts gain ur trust?
A.By memrizing previus chices.B.By prviding apprving respnses.
C.By presenting ppsing ideas.D.By reslving ptential prblems.
31.What can be a suitable title fr the text?
A.The Cnvenience f the Digital EraB.The Decline f Human Interactins
C.The Rise f AI Answering MdelsD.The Price f a Smth Cyberwrld
Mre than 100,000 peple in the United States are currently waiting fr rgan transplants, and many face lng delays r rejectin even when a suitable dnr is fund. One prmising alternative is regenerative medicine, which aims t grw persnalized rgans using a patient’s wn cells. Ensuring that xygen and nutrients can reach every part f a newly grwn rgan is an nging challenge. Researchers at Stanfrd have created new tls t design and 3D print the incredibly cmplex vascular (血管的) trees needed t carry bld thrughut an rgan.
The researchers built an algrithm (算法) t create vascular trees similar t native rgan bld vessel architectures. They ensured that the vasculature wuld evenly distribute bld and successfully shrten the time needed t generate the netwrk. While 3D printers aren’t yet up t the task f printing such a fine-scale netwrk, the researchers were able t design and print a vascular mdel with 500 branches. Using a 3D bi-printer, the researchers created a thick ring laded with human cells and built a netwrk f 25 vessels running thrugh it.
The researchers are quick t nte that these vascular netwrks are nt yet functinal bld vessels — they dn’t have muscle cells r anything else that they wuld need t wrk n their wn. “This is the first step tward generating really cmplex vascular netwrks,” said Dminic Rütsche, ne f the researchers. “We can print them at never befre-seen cmplexities, but they are nt yet fully functinal vessels. We’re wrking n that.”
Turning these designs int functining bld vessels is just ne f the many tasks that the researchers are wrking n. “This is a critical step in the prcess,” Dminic said. “We have successfully generated enugh heart cells frm human stem cells t print the whle human heart, and nw we can design a gd, cmplex vascular tree t keep them fed and living. We are nw actively putting the tw tgether: cells and vasculature, at rgan scale.”
32.What des Stanfrd’s research mainly fcus n?
A.Increasing available dnr rgans.B.Remving deadly rgan rejectins.
C.Designing wrkable vascular netwrks.D.Develping persnalized 3D bi-printers.
33.What des paragraph 2 mainly talk abut cncerning the research?
A.Its achievements.B.Its principles.C.Its bjectives.D.Its drawbacks.
34.Hw des Dminic describe the research?
A.Prmising but incmplete.B.Wrthwhile but risky.
C.Fruitful but questinable.D.Practical but cstly.
35.What will the researchers d next?
A.Emply stem cells t print whle rgans.B.Integrate cells and vessels n a larger scale.
C.Generate mre cells fr further experiments.D.Prduce vascular trees t sustain heart cells.
We tend t respect and even admire thse wh exhibit a lt f willpwer. The friend wh hits up the gym five times a week. The clleague wh manages t stay calm and fcused in nearly every situatin. Research suggests that these peple are nt nly viewed as trustwrthy but als mrally superir. ____36____ Surveys shw that many Americans are feeling heightened levels f anxiety and stress, which can make delaying gratificatin (满足感) and cntaining desires even harder.
____37____ While yu can use willpwer t manage yur emtins r fight temptatin (诱惑), it may nt be the mst effective methd. T imprve willpwer, it bils dwn t just trying harder. But self-cntrl invlves a set f skills that can be learned. Preparatin, mind-set and the ability t either avid r reframe temptatin can be far mre effective than trying t frce that desire dwn.
Develping yur self-cntrl starts with self-empwerment. ____38____ After all, if yu dn’t think yu can cntrl yurself then why wuld yu make any effrts t d s? Fcus n the times when yu have succeeded in accmplishing a gal related t the ne yu’re fcused n nw. Yu can als try thinking abut times when a family member r friend was successful and ask them fr any tips. ____39____
There are multiple strategies fr imprving self-cntrl, like creating rutines, mnitring yur prgress and editing yur inner circle. Trying several is mre effective than picking just ne. And remember, attaining better self-cntrl is nt an all-r-nthing pursuit. ____40____ Even s, yu can still make prgress twards yur gal. The key is t keep ging.
A.If they can d it, yu can t.
B.Yu may need supprt frm thers.
C.But d nt cnfuse willpwer with self-cntrl.
D.Yet, willpwer is in shrt supply in mdern life.
E.Self-cntrl is imprtant fr peple t achieve gals.
F.Believing yu are capable f it can help yu succeed.
G.Yu may slip up smetimes r allw yurself a cheat day.
