Back in 2003, Erica Fernandez was just a kid helping 20 adults take care f the beach. They verheard a plan t build a prcessing statin fr natural gas 14 miles ff the cast f Oxnard. The plant wuld send ver 200 tns f air pllutin per year t Erica’s cmmunity. Nt nly that, the statin wuld take in millins f gallns f seawater per day t cl its generatrs, and discharge the water mre than 15 degrees centigrade htter than the surrunding cean. This ht wastewater wuld cause serius harm t the surrunding ecsystem, killing tiny creatures and small fish critical t the survival f marine mammals and fisheries.
Erica cared t much t stay silent. She jined her friends in weekly prtests at the ffice f the natural gas cmpany. Prspects f stpping the prject did nt lk gd. The gvernr was in favr f it, and s were the pwerful state cmmissins that wuld have t apprve it. “The wrd n the street was that there was nthing we culd d.”
Behind the scenes, hwever, ppsitin was grwing, s Erica became the spkespersn fr the yuth f the twn. She regularly walked her neighbrhd alng the rute f the prpsed pipeline, using a hula hp t shw peple the size f the pipe that wuld pass by their huses. She talked t the media, and stries abut the dangers f the prpsed facility began appearing in the press. “We made thusands f phne calls and sent thusands f pstcards telling the gvernr why this facility was a bad idea.” In July 2007, the gvernr made an unexpected mve: He turned dwn the prject. Erica and her friends wn!
As nly the secnd persn in her family t g t cllege, Erica wants t becme an envirnmental lawyer s she can fight fr the envirnment and fr the rights f cmmunities. She wants ther yung peple t speak ut when they see smething wrng, even if they feel shy abut it at first. She likes t qute the wrds f her rle mdel, César Chávez: “We are the future. The future is urs.”

Tday, with the help f AI tls, anyne can instantly generate impressive architectural images. Yet this raises a serius questin fr architects: if technlgy lwers the technical barrier, what remains the true value f design? The answer, many experts believe, lies in deeper philsphical thinking.
Architecture is nt nly abut structure. It als reflects hw humans understand life. This understanding begins with the individual—hw a building can shape peple’s emtins. It then extends t the cmmunity—whether a neighbrhd design brings peple tgether r drives them apart. Ultimately, it tuches upn time itself—hw t balance the preservatin f histrical identity with the need fr change. In many cities, preserving every ld structure, n matter its functin r relevance, has becme smething f a sacred cw, admired by all but discussed by few. Yet true architectural philsphy requires us t ask whether preserving everything always serves the cmmunity’s best interest.
AI can cpy thusands f design styles, but it cannt make value judgments. It des nt knw why, fr instance, a library in Clmbia places its reading rms—nt ffices—in the brightest and highest spaces: a design chice symblizing equality. As schlar Nayef Al Rdhan pints ut, “gd design shuld pssess valuable qualities, including fairness, inclusin, and safety, which cannt be utsurced t AI.”
In the future, the best architects may nt be thse wh master AI tls, but thse wh master philsphical reflectin. Saudi Arabia’s planned city “The Line” is ne such example. Its design is nt nly technlgical but als philsphical—it asks whether humans can create a sustainable city that allws peple t live in harmny with nature. By turning a traditinal city int a single vertical (垂直的) line, it challenges ur deepest assumptins abut urban life.
Freed frm repetitive drafting wrk, architects in the age f AI must think mre deeply abut humanity, cmmunity, and sustainability. The great designs f the future will emerge where technlgy meets philsphy, nt where ne replaces the ther.
What is the main functin f paragraph 2 in the passage?
A. T intrduce examples f mdern cities. B. T cmpare architecture with philsphy.
C. T describe hw AI will change cnstructin. D. T present architecture frm a philsphical view.
29. What can we learn frm the example f the library in Clmbia?
A. Great design is human-centered. B. AI will reshape public buildings.
C. The best design feels almst invisible. D. Equality is the cre f mdern design.
30. Which f the fllwing best describes the nature f “The Line”?
A. A philsphy-guided thery. B. An ec-friendly city prject.
C. A scial welfare husing plan. D. An ecnmically-driven design.
31. What’s the best title f the text?
A. AI: The Future f Architectural Design B. AI: The Missing f Humanity
C. Architecture: Preservatin f Ancient Techniques D. Architecture: The Integratin f AI and Philsphy

Culd ants’ nests help peple build better transprtatin netwrks? In a new study, University f Califrnia bilgists have discvered insights abut hw ants build their nests that culd be useful fr designing mre efficient human transprtatin systems.
The researchers analyzed 439 nests frm 31 different species f ants. “Yu can think f the nest itself as a kind f highway netwrk they mve things in and ut f,” said Sean O’Falln, the study’s first authr.
“Ants face similar challenges t humans when it cmes t living in crwded spaces. Ideally, we need t maintain clse cnnectins in a tightly packed city, yet there are limitatins t hw clsely packed tgether we can be. There’s nly s much space available fr buildings and rads.” Ants’ nests cnsist f a tunnel leading dwn t an entrance chamber(室), where ants recruit(招募) ther ants t help them find r transprt fd. Frm the entrance chamber, tunnels lead dwn t ther chambers, which are cnnected by tunnels t still deeper chambers. Chambers serve different purpses, such as fd and waste strage and raising the yung.
The researchers examined fur cmmn fraging(觅食的)strategies used by ants. In sme species, individual ants hunt fr fd. In thers, an ant brings fd t the nest as a means f recruiting ther ants t accmpany it t the fd surce. Ants can als frm a cntinuus rute between the fd surce and the nest that can last fr mnths. Or they can leave a special rute that ther ants can fllw in large numbers a phenmenn called “mass recruitment”. The researchers had expected that nests fr the mass recruitment fragers wuld have greater “netwrk density(密度)”—meaning larger numbers f cnnectins amng the chambers—than nests built by ther species. Greater netwrk density, the scientists reasned, wuld help facilitate mre mvement f ants and resurces thrughut the nest.
But the research revealed that fr ants representing all fur fraging strategies, netwrk density was relatively lw—even fr large nests with hundreds f chambers. In fact, acrss all fraging strategies, nests with the mst chambers tended t have the lwest netwrk density.
“Ants have t balance the efficiency f highly cnnected nests with architectural stability,” said Sean O’Falln. “On ne hand, they want transprtatin t be faster, but t many cnnectins between chambers culd weaken the structural integrity f the nest, which culd cause the entire system t cllapse.”
32. What des the text tell us abut the structure f ants’ nests?
A. The entrance chamber is the largest part.
B. Different chambers have specific functins.
C. All chambers cnnect directly t the entrance.
D. Deeper chambers are usually fr raising the yung.
33. Hw is the first fraging strategy different frm the ther three?
A. Ants search fr fd independently.
B. Ants frm a lng-lasting path t fd.
C. Ants bring fd frm the fd surce.
D. Ants fllw a specific rute t the fd surce.
34. What is the purpse f the last paragraph?
A. T draw a cnclusin abut hw ants build their nests.
B. T explain why ants avid creating t many cnnectins.
C. T prve that ants are gd at building transprtatin netwrks.
D. T shw hw ants maintain the structural integrity f their nests.
35. In what way can humans learn frm ants’ nests?
A. Building strng structures that never cllapse.
B. Wrking in harmny in crwded envirnments.
C. Cmmunicating effectively with each ther in large grups.
D. Balancing efficient transprtatin netwrks with limited space.

Appreciating petry begins with welcming its unique rhythm and language. Start by reading the pem alud, allwing its rhythm t reach yu emtinally. Petry is meant t be heard and reciting it can reveal hidden patterns r emtins that silent reading might miss. 36 Des the pem speed up r slw dwn? These shifts ften mirrr its themes.
Ntice the structure. Pems aren’t just wrds n a page. Their frm, including rhyme schemes, stanza breaks, and line lengths, cntributes t meaning. A tightly structured pem might evke (唤起) rder, while brken lines culd reflect chas. Dn’t verlk punctuatin (标点) r capitalizatin. 37
Engage yurself in imagery and metaphr. Pets paint pictures with wrds, s visualize the scenes they describe. Ask: What senses are engaged? A pem abut rain might feel cld and damp. Figurative language like similes and metaphrs invites yu t explre deeper cnnectins between seemingly unrelated ideas.
Cnsider the pet’s perspective. Wh is speaking? Is it the pet’s vice, a character, r an abstract being? Understanding the “speaker” can clarify the pem’s intentin. 38 Histrical events, persnal experiences, r cultural symbls may influence its meaning.
39 Petry grws n emtin, and there’s n “crrect” interpretatin. Yur respnse — whether jy, srrw, r curisity — is acceptable. Revisit the pem: meanings ften change with each reading. Take dwn questins it raises, and research unfamiliar references if they interest yu.
In shrt, appreciating petry is an adventure f discvery. Slw dwn, listen, and trust yur feelings. 40 Rather, it’s abut appreciating the interplay f sund, image, and idea that makes petry timeless.
A.Let yurself feel.
B.Cntext matters as well.
C.Dn’t be afraid f making mistakes.
D.These shape hw yu stp and interpret.
E.Pay attentin t hw wrds flw tgether.
F.This is nt like unlcking a “secret passwrd”.
G.The pem’s backgrund determines the style.

Hi everyne. Tday, I’d like t tell yu abut my current research tpic. “Dactylnmy”, r the practice f cunting n ne’s fingers, feels s natural that yu might assume that everyne des it the same way. Hwever, peple arund the wrld actually have very different methds. If yu’re frm the U.K., Germany, France, r many parts f Eurpe, yu prbably start cunting with yur thumb, (17) and finish with yur smallest finger. Meanwhile, sme peple in America start with the first finger and end with the thumb. In parts f the Middle East, mst peple begin with the smallest finger, while the Japanese start with an pen hand and gradually draw in each finger until they have a clsed fist. (18) Other cuntries have even mre unique methds. Many Bantu-speakers in Tanzania use bth hands equally, where pssible. Fr example, the number six is represented with three fingers n each hand. (19) Indian children are taught t cunt using the lines between each finger jint. This allws fr mre advanced calculatins, as each f the five fingers represents fur numbers. (20) Nt nly can finger cunting reveal where in the wrld yu cme frm, but it can als reflect hw we learned t understand numbers.
根据文章第二段第一句:... this naughty little rabbit is hand-made frm the finest mhair...
Architecture is nt nly abut structure. It als reflects hw humans understand life. Yet true architectural philsphy requires us t ask whether preserving everything always serves the cmmunity's best interest.(然而,真正的建筑哲学要求我们问,保留一切是否总是符合社区的最大利益。)
A. AI can cpy thusands f design styles, but it cannt make value judgments. It des nt knw why, fr instance, a library in Clmbia places its reading rms - nt ffices - in the brightest and highest spaces: a design chice symblizing equality.(人工智能可以复制数千种设计风格,但它不能做出价值判断。
A. Its design is nt nly technlgical but als philsphical - it asks whether humans can create a sustainable city that allws peple t live in harmny with nature.(它的设计不仅是技术上的,也是哲学上的——它问人类是否能创造一个可持续的城市,让人类与自然和谐相处。)
Architecture: The Integratin f AI and Philsphy 最后一段明确总结:“The great designs f the future will emerge where technlgy meets philsphy”。
根据第三段中“Chambers serve different purpses, such as fd and waste strage and raising the yung.”
故选A项。
最后一段引用研究者的话:“Ants have t balance the efficiency f highly cnnected nests with architectural stability... t many cnnectins culd weaken the structural integrity... cause the entire system t cllapse.”
41-45 BCACA 46-50 CBDBD 51-55 CADDB
43. A. effrt
详解: “despite my effrt t d...”
44. C. rushed
45. A. end
A“Patient with”(对...
prmising that...
48. D. kept
51. C. emerged
B“cntinued”(继续)、C“ccurred”(发生)、D“increased”(增加)均不符合“after her shift”的逻辑。
53. D. relief
注意与后文“with”搭配,构成“be accmpanied with”结构。
句子主干为“A black well-designed pen car drew attentin”。
“It is an hnr t d sth.”
