T study hw the birds tap, the researchers first humanely captured eight wild Dwny Wdpeckers and carefully inserted electrdes int their muscles in the labratry. The electrdes fed int a tiny, fitted backpack that recrded electrical signals frm cntracting muscles as the birds pecked.
