The Chinese Fd Guide Pagda is a graphic representatin f the quantity and prprtin f varius fds intake fr an adult accrding t the key recmmendatins frm Dietary Guidelines fr Chinese Residents (2022). It fllws the principle f a balanced diet and shws the basic fd cmpsitin in nutritin.
There are five levels n the Pagda, each f a different size, shwing the five categries f fd and their amunts. The categries f fd include cereals and tubers, fruits and vegetables, meat, pultry, dairy, sybeans, legumes and nuts, cking il and salt. The fd quantities are designed accrding t different energy demand levels. The ntes beside the Pagda indicate the recmmended range f daily intake per adult at the energy demand level f 1600~2400 kcal.
Level 1: Cereals and tubers Cereals and tubers are the main surces f dietary energy (carbhydrate prvides 50%~65% f ttal energy), and they are als gd surces f micrnutrients and dietary fiber. It is recmmended in the Dietary Guidelines that healthy peple ver tw years ld shuld eat diversified and balanced meals. A ttal daily intake f 200-300g f cereals, f which whle grains and legumes shuld make up 50-150g and tubers 50-100g, is recmmended.
Level 2: Vegetables and fruits Peple shuld eat enugh vegetables and fruits, accrding t the Dietary Guidelines. The recmmended daily intake f vegetables is 300g, half f which shuld be dark-clred, while the daily intake f fresh fruits shuld be 200-350g.
Level 3: Fish, pultry, meat, and eggs Fish, pultry, meat, and eggs are recmmended by the Dietary Guidelines fr mderate cnsumptin. Ttal intake shuld be targeted at 120-200g n a daily basis.
Level 4: Dairy, sybeans and nuts Dairy, sybeans and nuts are gd surces f prtein and calcium with high nutrient density. A wide variety f dairy prducts shuld be cnsumed, and a daily intake equivalent t 300g f liquid milk is recmmended.
Level 5: Cking il and table salt Cking il and table salt are indispensable as cking cndiments, but it is better t use them as little as pssible. The daily intake f salt and cking il fr an adult shuld be less than 5g and 25-30g respectively. Accrding t the recmmendatins f DRIs , the dietary fat energy supply rati shuld accunt fr 35% f the ttal dietary energy fr peple aged 1~3 years ld; fr peple ver fur years ld, it shuld be 20%~30%.
A fd myth is a widely believed but misleading r false idea abut fd, nutritin, r eating habits. These myths can cme frm utdated advice, marketing hype, r just plain misunderstandings, leading peple t make chices that dn’t align with what’s actually healthy, beneficial, r based in science.
      WHAT IS A FOOD MYTH?
      While-reading
“Only fruit and vegetables are healthy fds.” The human bdy needs t eat manydifferent types f fd t stay healthy. The Chinese Fd Guide Pagda shws us what fd we shuld eat. While fruit and vegetables are healthychices, it is just as imprtant t eatfds frm ther fd grups. Milk fr example, cntains many nutrients and is gd fr ur bnes. “Eating fat makes yu fat.”Eating fat is imprtant fr keeping us healthy. It gives us energy and helps ur bdy t take in nutrients. Nt all fat makes us gain weight. Sme fat can even encurageur bdy t lse weight. It is necessary t include sme, but nt t much fat in ur fd t help ur bdy wrk well.“It's OK t eat nly what I like while I'm yung.”When we are yung, it might feel like we can just eat whatever we want! Fr example, sweets and fried fds taste delicius. But wecannt eat thse fds alne. Eating balanced meals is very imprtant when we are yung. It helps ur bdy and brain t grw well. Bad eating habits may stay with us ur whle life, s it is best t learn gd eating habits early!
      1. What are the three fd myths in the text?
Read the text andanswer the questins.

      1) Only fruit and vegetables are healthy fds.2) Eating fat makes yu fat.3) It's OK t eat nly what I like while I'm yung.
Milk cntains many nutrients and is gd fr ur bnes.
Milk is a great surce f calcium, and calcium is necessary fr strng bnes and teeth, which helps yur bdy maintain muscle mvement, bld cltting and nerve signaling.
Milk is a gd surce f high-quality prtein. Yur bdy needs prtein in rder t build and repair cells in yur muscles, bnes and skin.
      Pst-reading
      3. Shuld we eat fat? Why r why nt?
      4. Why d yung peple als need t be careful abut what they eat?
Yes, we shuld. Fat gives us energy and helps ur bdy t take in nutrients. Nt all fat makes us gain weight. Sme fat can even encurageur bdy t lse weight. S it is necessary t include sme, but nt t much fat in ur fd t help ur bdy wrk well.
Eating balanced meals helps ur bdy and brain t grw well. Bad eating habits may stay with us ur whle life, s it is best t learn gd eating habits early!
      5. D yu agree with the ideas in the text? Is there anything yu might change abut yur eating chices?
Yes, I d. I think fruit and vegetables are healthy fds, but we shuld have a balanced diet t keep healthy. S we shuld include sme fat in ur meals. What’s mre, we shuld keep a healthy diet as early as we can. If we d this when we have prblems, it will be t late.
I have t change my eating chices t. Nw, I have many vegetables and fruits every day, but I dn’t have enugh meat. I dn’t think it’s a healthy diet, s I need t make a change. Als, I usually have sme junk fd and sft drinks. It’s time fr me t stp r have little f them. I shuld drink mre biled water r juice and milk instead f sft drinks.
Brainstrm ther beliefs abut healthy fd and eating habits. Which d yu think are true? Discuss yur ideas.
BROWN EGGS ARE HEALTHIER THAN WHITE EGGS
There is n nutritinal difference between white and brwn eggs. Fr sme reasn, many f us have grwn up thinking that the darker shell means it’s a healthier fd. It’s just nt s. Hwever, I’ll tell yu all abut the awesme f eggs in this pst n the benefits f eggs.

Keep in mind, this is fr mderate cnsumptin f alchl.
RED WINE IS THE ONLY ALCOHOL THAT IS GOOD FOR YOU
The fact that vegetables are ften taken frm the field and flash-frzen r canned within a shrt perid busts this myth. Li, et al studied the nutrient value f bth fresh and frzen fruits and vegetables ver a 2-year perid, and determined there t be "n significant difference."
FRESH VEGGIES ARE BETTER THAN FROZEN OR CANNED
Gluten-free is nt necessarily better fr the general ppulatin, unless yu have a gluten intlerance. Thse wh d lack the ability t digest gluten will have t avid wheat, barley, and rye. The rest f us can benefit frm the fiber and ther nutrients in these fds. The reality is, nly abut 1% f the ppulatin has gluten-intlerance. Additinally, I've fund many highly prcessed ingredients in gluten-free pre-packaged fds, including canla il, xantham gum, cane syrup, etc.
GLUTEN-FREE FOOD IS BETTER FOR YOU
The humble white ptat gets shrt shrift, but it shuldn’t. “Peple demnize ptates ver sweet ptates, but the nutrient cmpsitin is quite similar,” says Sharp. Sweet ptates have mre vitamin A and an additinal gram f fiber, but white ptates have mre ptassium (essential fr helping regulate bld sugar), she says. Nutritin inf frm the U.S. Department f Agriculture n sweet and white ptates backs up these details. The verdict: Include a cmbinatin f sweet and white taters in yur diet.

While late-night snacking can lead t weight gain r prevent weight lss, it's nt because f the time n the clck. Instead, it's abut why yu're eating. It's cmmn t reach fr fd fr reasns ther than physical hunger in the evening, whether it be a habit, bredm r craving.
