They need your help, care, and love. Through your kindness, you can change their ideas of themselves and the world, and become their light in the darkness (黑暗).
Volunteer in your neighborhood. If you’re looking to help others, volunteering is your best way. You can volunteer to help people facing difficulties in many ways. Also, you might bring out the best in yourself when helping others.
Share your experiences. Helping others isn’t just about giving money or useful things; you can also share your experiences to help others when they feel lost. Your real-life experiences can provide useful lessons to help them solve life problems.
Help around the house. Helping others isn’t only about helping strangers; it’s also about helping your family. In a family, it’s not one person’s job to do housework. Try to do more housework even without being asked. Spend some time folding your clothes, preparing dinner, and so on. No one at home should serve as your servant (仆人). You’re a family member, just like the rest. Show your great love and help your family.
So, tell me, how do you plan to help others?

Malia Martinez is an 11-year-old girl who has a special love for animals and a big heart. Just over a year ago, Malia received a New Year gift that changed her life—a sewing (缝纫) machine and sewing lessons. She quickly learned how to sew and really enjoyed it.
One day, Malia went to a fair (集市) where she saw many pet owners with their dogs and cats. An idea came to her! “Why not make cute bandanas (色彩鲜艳的围巾) for dogs and cats to help animal shelters (收容所)?” she thought.
With lots of excitement and help from her grandmother, Malia turned a corner of her home into a working room. There, she and her grandmother worked together to make lots of colourful bandanas with love and care. Then Malia started to give away her bandanas to animal shelters, hoping to make the animals look cute and catch the eye of people who might adopt (收养) them.
Malia also began selling her bandanas. The bandanas cost between $3 and $7, and the money from her sales has gone to animal shelters too. “At first she started just donating the bandanas. But now she is selling more, so she can do more for the shelters,” said Malia’s mom, Crystal. “She is very kind and loves to give, and she doesn’t want for much of anything. It makes her feel good to give.”
“Workers from the shelters are really happy and thankful,” Malia said, “which makes me feel really good inside. It makes me happy to see how I’ve made a big difference to the people and animals.”
23.How did Malia learn to sew?
A.By taking lessons.B.By reading books.C.By watching videos. D.By surfing the Internet.

Before I was in Grade Three, I didn’t like to help others. I would get irritated (恼怒的) when someone asked me for help. Then things changed.
One cloudy day, when I was walking to school, I met a tall man. Carrying a long thin stick and wearing sunglasses, he stood at the crossing. I found this a little strange as it was early in the morning and yet he was wearing sunglasses. But I didn’t think much about it and crossed the road.
When I reached the other side, suddenly I heard cars sounding their horns (喇叭). I turned around and saw that the man was in the middle of the road. It seemed that he was too scared to move. Just then, I knew that the man wasn’t able to see. I ran quickly back to him and helped him cross the road. The man turned his head to me and said, “Thank you very much for your kind help.”
It made me feel good to hear those words. In fact, I felt so good that I asked him where he was going and if he needed more help. He told me that he was going to a supermarket, which was not far from my school. I walked with him to the supermarket and then went to school.
From that day on, I often tried to help people in need. And now, I volunteer to help out at the old people’s home in front of my home every Sunday afternoon. Being helpful makes me happy and I no longer find it irritating.
27.Which of the following is the right order?

How long does a year last? ___31___ But your parents might say that a whole year can pass “in the blink of an eye”. Why does time seem to pass faster as we get older?
According to scientists from Duke University in the USA, our brains become weak and change over time. ___32___ Babies, for example, move their eyes much more often than adults because they’re processing what they see faster. They take in a lot of information and do many things in one day. This makes them feel like a single day lasts for a long time. ___33___ So older people receive less information during a day than younger people. This causes things to seem as though they’re happening more quickly.
People may also “feel” time differently for psychological (心理的) reasons. ___34___ Have you ever noticed that when you recall (回忆) your firsts (the first day of school, the first family vacation, the first birthday party, etc), they seem to slow down a lot? That’s because when something is a “first”, there are many exciting things to remember. Recalling these memories makes you feel like they took forever.
For many adults, life is normal. When they look back, they might feel like there are not many new things to remember. So time seems to be moving faster to them.
Give an example when you feel time passes fast. (回答不少于5词,但不超过15词)
