As clcks spring frward and fall back each year acrss much f the United States, many peple experience mre than just a temprary disruptin in sleep. A grwing bdy f evidence suggests that these biannual time changes may have lng - term negative effects n public health. A recent study published in Prceedings f the Natinal Academy f Sciences f the United States f America indicates that making standard time permanent culd help reduce rates f besity and strke.
"Our wrk reveals that there may be greater health benefits n a ppulatin level if we switch t a permanent standard time," says study c - authr Lara Weed, a biengineering Ph.D. candidate at Stanfrd University.
Previus research assciates time shifts with increased risks f heart attacks, car accidents, and disruptins in sleep and alertness. Majr medical grups, including the American Medical Assciatin and the American Academy f Sleep Medicine, ppse the practice, emphasizing that standard time's mrning light helps reduce these issues. Yet, few studies had previusly explred the lng - term health impacts f maintaining a single time system year - rund.
T address this gap, Weed and her graduate advisr Jamie M. Zeitzer investigated hw the bdy's circadian (生理节奏的) system is affected by the tw time systems used in mst U.S. states. The researchers develped cmputer mdels t simulate hw light expsure influences circadian rhythms and health under three scenaris: permanent standard time, permanent daylight saving time, and the current system f switching twice a year. They integrated these simulatins with a mathematical mdel f the circadian clck, accunting fr gegraphic variables like latitude and lngitude. They then cnnected their estimates f yearly "circadian burden"—the time the bdy needs t realign itself with external time—with cunty - level health data frm the U.S. Centers fr Disease Cntrl and Preventin.
The results demnstrated that under permanent standard time, which ffers mre mrning light, mst peple wuld experience fewer abrupt disruptins t their circadian rhythms. The study estimates that adpting year - rund standard time culd lwer the U.S. besity rate by nearly 0.8%—equivalent t abut 2.6 millin fewer cases natinwide—and reduce strke prevalence by apprximately 0.09%, r mre than 300,000 fewer cases.
      28. What is ne finding f the new study published in PNAS?
      A. Switching time twice a year imprves sleep quality.
      B. Permanent standard time may lwer besity and strke rates.
      C. Daylight saving time increases mrning light expsure.
      D. Time changes have n lng - term health effects.
      29. What d the majr medical grups advcate?
      A. Cntinuing the current system f time switching.
      B. Adpting permanent daylight saving time.
      C. Using standard time fr its mrning light benefits.
      D. Ignring the impact f time changes n health.
      30. What is the authr’s attitude twards the current time - change practice?
      A. Supprtive.B. Neutral.C. Indifferent.D. Negative.
      31. Which f the fllwing is the best title fr the passage?
      A. Why Permanent Standard Time May Be Better fr Health
      B. The Histry f Daylight Saving Time in the U.S.
      C. Hw Sleep Affects Heart Health and Accidents
      D. The Rle f Mrning Light in Reducing Obesity
