Fr years, the thick, leather-bund ntebk sat undisturbed n the highest shelf f my
kitchen cabinet. It was my grandmther’s recipe bk, passed t me when she passed away. I
always meant t pen it, t recreate the dishes f my childhd, but life mved t fast. Cking
frm memry felt easier than cnfrnting the ghst f her handwriting.
Last Sunday, rain trapping me indrs, I finally tk it dwn. Dust flew as I pened the cver. I expected lists f ingredients and ven temperatures. What I fund instead was a stry.
The first entry, “Anna’s First Birthday Cake,” was dated 1965. Beside the recipe fr vanilla spnge, she had scribbled, “She cried at the mess, then laughed at the taste. A success.” Page after page, the fd was almst secndary. “Michael’s first fish, caught and cked,” read a nte frm 1972. “He was s prud. We pretended it wasn’t vercked.” A clipping fr “Hearty Vegetable Sup” was anntated, “Made this when Jhn lst his jb. The pt simmered all day, filling the
      huse with hpe.”
I never knew these stries. My grandfather’s jb lss, my uncle’s childhd pride — these were family legends, but I’d never cnnected them t the flavrs n my tngue. Grandma wasn’t just feeding bdies; she was mending hearts, celebrating victries, and steeling us against life’s winters, ne meal at a time.
My eyes landed n the last written page: “Lemn Pudding, fr Lucy’s farewell.” That was me, mving acrss the cuntry fr cllege. Her nte said, “S she remembers that even endings can be sweet.”
I had cme lking fr instructins n hw t make a cake. I fund instructins n hw t live a life — with resilience, lve, and immense grace. The ntebk wasn’t a relic. It was an
invitatin. That evening, I made the lemn pudding. As the tart-sweet flavr filled my muth, I
didn’t just taste sugar and citrus. I tasted a legacy, patiently waiting n a shelf fr me t be ready.
24 .What did the authr initially expect t find in her grandmther’s ntebk?

A new Chinese artificial intelligence agent, Manus, has rapidly captured the attentin f the AI cmmunity with its ability t handle cmplex, real-wrld tasks. Develped by a lw-prfile
team and backed by Chinese investrs and develpers, Manus is currently available as an
invitatin-nly web preview. A demnstratin vide n its website, manus.im, shwcases its ability t create a custm website thrugh a step-by-step prcess.
China has been at the helm (舵,领导地位) f several AI breakthrughs in 2025. The
launch f DeepSeek in January, described as a “Sputnik mment” fr U.S. AI develpment,
shwed that China was able t prduce functinal Large Language Mdels (LLMs) fr a fractin f the cst f American industry leaders, and Manus shws that this kind f prgress can be
      repeated.
Manus’ website says it is fcused n real-wrld cmplex tasks, giving the examples f

creating interactive curses fr middle-schl teachers, cmparing different insurance plicies,
and assisting in business-t-business supplier surcing. Manus als claims t utperfrm
OpenAI’s Deep Research based n the GAIA benchmark, a third-party measure f general AI
assistants. Despite limited infrmatin abut its crprate structure, team, and underlying mdels, Manus has generated significant interest.
This surge in ppularity mirrrs the buzz fllwing the launch f DeepSeek’s R1 reasning mdel in January. General-purpse AI agents, capable f interacting with their envirnment,
cllecting data, and autnmusly handling tasks t achieve predetermined gals, are widely regarded as the future f AI applicatins.
Accrding t the dem, Manus can autnmusly brwse websites, leverage varius
capabilities, and display its wrkflw in real time. The develpers describe it as “a general AI agent that bridges minds and actins: it desn’t just think, it delivers results.” In the
demnstratin, presenter Ji Yicha said: “This isn’t just anther chatbt r wrkflw. It’s a truly
autnmus agent that bridges that gap between cnceptin and executin. While ther AIs stp at generating ideas, Manus delivers results.” Manus is cntinuing t perate n an invite-nly
system fr the time being, thugh it is expected t switch t free use at sme pint in the future.
28 .Hw des Manus capture the attentin f the AI cmmunity?

30 .What is widely cnsidered as the future f AI applicatins?
      A .Lw-prfile AI agents. B .General-purpse AI agents.
C .The invite-nly perating systems. D .The DeepSeek R1 reasning mdel.
31 .What can we infer frm the last paragraph?
A .Manus will stp at generating ideas. B .Manus is designed fr entertainment.
C .Manus is a free AI agent fr the time being. D .Manus can plan and cmplete tasks by itself.

Years ag, scientists nted smething strange: Earth’s Nrthern and Suthern Hemispheres (半球) reflect nearly the same amunt f sunlight back int space. The reasn why this symmetry (对称,相似) is strange is because the Nrthern Hemisphere has mre land, cities, pllutin, and industrial aersls (气溶胶). All thse things shuld lead t a higher albed — mre sunlight
reflected than absrbed. The Suthern Hemisphere is mstly cean, which is darker and absrbs mre sunlight. New satellite data, hwever, suggest that symmetry is breaking.
In a new study published in the Prceedings f the Natinal Academy f Sciences f the
United States f America, Nrman Leb, a climate scientist at NASA’s Langley Research Center, and clleagues analyzed 24 years f bservatins frm NASA’s Cluds and the Earth’s Radiant Energy System (CERES) missin. They fund that the Nrthern Hemisphere is darkening faster than the Suthern Hemisphere. In ther wrds, it’s absrbing mre sunlight. That shift may
change weather patterns, rainfall, and the planet’s verall climate in the decades ahead.
Since 2000, CERES has recrded hw much sunlight is absrbed and reflected, as well as
hw much infrared (lngwave) radiatin escapes back t space. Leb used these measurements t analyze hw Earth’s energy balance changed between 2001 and 2024. The energy balance tells
scientists whether the planet is absrbing mre energy than it releases and hw that difference varies between hemispheres. The team fund that the Nrthern Hemisphere is absrbing abut 0.34 watt mre slar energy per square meter per decade than the Suthern Hemisphere. “This difference desn’t sund like much, but ver the whle planet, that’s a huge number,” said Li.
T figure ut what was driving this imbalance, the scientists applied a technique called
partial radiactive perturbatin (PRP) analysis. The PRP methd separates the influence ffactrs such as cluds, aersls, surface brightness, and water vapr frm calculatins f hw much
sunlight each hemisphere absrbs. The results pinted t three main reasns fr the Nrthern Hemisphere darkening: melting snw and ice, declining air pllutin, and rising water vapr.
“It made a lt f sense,” Leb said. “The Nrthern Hemisphere’s surface is getting darker because snw and ice are melting. That expses the land and cean underneath. And pllutin has gne dwn in places like China, the U.S., and Eurpe. It means there are fewer aersls in the air t reflect sunlight. In the Suthern Hemisphere, it’s the ppsite.” “Because the nrth is warming faster, it als hlds mre water vapr,” Leb cntinued. “Water vapr desn’t reflect sunlight, it absrbs it. That’s anther reasn the Nrthern Hemisphere is taking in mre heat.”
32 .What did Nrman Leb’s study find?
A .The planet’s verall climate will shift sn.
B .Nrthern Hemisphere is absrbing mre sunlight.
C .Nrthern Hemisphere reflects much mre sunlight.
D .Suthern Hemisphere absrbs much mre sunlight.
33 .Hw des the authr supprt the claim that “the Nrthern Hemisphere is darkening faster”?
A .By cmparing lts f places. B .By quting multiple studies.
C .By presenting data and analysis. D .By describing public pinins.
34 .What d the reasns fr the Nrthern Hemisphere darkening indicate?
A .Human envirnmental prtectin effrts have cmpletely failed.
B .The Suthern Hemisphere will als experience the same changes sn.
C .Technlgical advancement is the primary driver f climate imbalance.
D .The warming prcess in the Nrthern Hemisphere strengthens systematically.
35 .What can be a suitable title fr the text?
A .Glbal Warming Is Expected t Disappear
B .Climate Mnitring Cmes int a New Era
C .The Weird Symmetry Appears t Be Breaking
D .Human Activities Will Ttally Change Albed

Leb used these measurements t analyze hw Earth’s energy
balance changed between 2001 and 2024. The energy balance tells scientists whether the planet is absrbing mre energy than it releases and hw that difference varies between hemispheres. The
team fund that the Nrthern Hemisphere is absrbing abut 0.34 watt mre slar energy per

(PRP) analysis. 和“The results pinted t three main reasns fr the Nrthern Hemisphere darkening:
melting snw and ice, declining air pllutin, and rising water vapr.
The Nrthern Hemisphere’s surface is getting darker because snw and ice are melting. That expses the land and cean underneath. And pllutin has gne
dwn in places like China, the U.S., and Eurpe. It means there are fewer aersls in the air t
reflect sunlight. In the Suthern Hemisphere, it’s the ppsite.” “Because the nrth is warming

absrbs it. That’s anther reasn the Nrthern Hemisphere is taking in mre heat.”
C 选项“The Weird Symmetry Appears t Be Breaking (奇怪的对称似乎正在被打破)”准确地抓住了文章的主线,“Weird
