True friends, mst peple wuld agree, are there fr each ther. Smetimes that means ffering emtinal supprt. Smetimes it means helping each ther mve. And if yu’re a superb starling, it means stuffing bugs int the beaks (鸟喙) f yur friends’ babies, secure in the expectatin that they’ll eventually d the same fr yurs.
Scientists have lng knwn that scial animals usually put bld relatives first. But a recent study published in the jurnal Nature shws that unrelated members f a superb starling flck (群体) ften help each ther raise chickens, trading assistance t ne anther ver years in a behavir that was nt previusly knwn.
The study was led by Dustin Rubenstein, a prfessr f eclgy at Clumbia University, whse lab has maintained a 20-year field study f the species that included 40 breeding seasns. It has recrded thusands f interactins between hundreds f starlings and cllected DNA t examine their genetic relatinships.
When the team began analyzing the data, they were shcked t see that birds new t the flck tk the initiative t babysit thse brn within it, and vice versa. And the team als fund that individual birds that helped nnrelatives ne breeding seasn later had their gd deeds repaid, smetimes repeatedly. “T me, that sunds like friendship,” said Dr. Earl, a bilgist at Crnell University and an authr f the paper.
The idea that animals might establish friendships with unrelated individuals generated heated debates amng ther scientists in the field. Hwever, a grwing bdy f research has led sme scientists t accept that lng-term reciprcal relatinships exist amng sme animals, fr example, whales, bats and elephants. But lng-term relatinships can be difficult t detect. The team needed 27 seasns’ wrth f data t pick up hints (线索) f reciprcity in the starlings. “The study makes a cnvincing case,” said Jrg Massen, a behaviral eclgist at Utrecht University. “One next step wuld be t wrk ut hw these lng-term relatinships are maintained day t day,” he said.
The behavir f superb starlings als suggests that sustaining reciprcal relatinships benefits everybdy. “Birds that live in larger grups tend t live lnger and reprduce mre babies,” Dr. Rubenstein said. In the unpredictable African savanna, it’s all hands n deck t raise yung. And the additin f immigrant birds is required t make the grups mre resilient.
Tday, as many experts wrry abut an epidemic f human lneliness, there culd be value in heeding lessns frm the superb starling. But maybe dn’t ffer t stuff bugs dwn the muths f yur friends’ kids. Luckily, yu can always ffer t babysit.
      24. The new finding f a study is that members f a superb starling flck ________.
      A. hire new cmers t lk after chickens

Many years ag, I taught high schl bilgy. The first day, I tld my students that they culd use their bks t take any test that I wuld give. They were surprised, and mst thught that class wuld be very easy despite my explanatins that it wuld nt be. They were surprised again when they fund that it was nt as easy as they thught.
Study is still necessary. In the real wrld, ne can lk up a wealth f infrmatin, but its validity (可信度) varies. It is the ability t evaluate, test, and reasn with that infrmatin that is f value. That is what I tried t teach using the basic facts f science as a backdrp fr develping a thughtful apprach t understanding scientific prblems and ther issues.
Science is a systematic quest fr truth. It strives t search fr unbiased facts (客观事实) that can be tested and prved, which are f value t everyne. Of curse, ne may argue abut many things, but the facts behind these debates shuld hpefully be less arguable.
Fr mst scientists, the hpe is that their search fr truth will ultimately benefit sciety. Fr many f us that is enugh. We d ur wrk and experimentally test its validity. We may be recgnized by ur peers, and ver time ur discveries may have a psitive impact upn sciety, but is that enugh? Shuld we expect mre f urselves?
The pursuit f truth thrugh science has bth intrinsic (内在的) and practical value. Hwever, the value f that truth is less impactful if it is nt actively shared, Sciety is experiencing many difficult issues and their slutins require the types f unbiased infrmatin that science can prvide. Our wrk is valuable. Its value increases if it is cmmunicated and acted upn.
Frm Galile t the present, the sharing f scientific infrmatin is nt withut its challenges — it may take enrmus effrts in the face f fear and cnfusin. Hwever, with ur increasing reliance n science and technlgy, a widespread basic understanding f scientific prcesses is even mre necessary. Mst peple are mre than capable f that understanding if given the pprtunity. Once that understanding is achieved, this methdlgy can be applied t mst f the prblems that we face.
On a scietal level, supprting an educatinal system that values the scientific methd ver memrizatin benefits everyne. Scientific methdlgy shuld nt just be the prvince f scientists. Reasn and a search fr truth shuld nt be limited t the labratry. By making the scientific methd part f the curriculum as mentring and listening t ne anther, we all benefit.
      28. What might the authr’s students find difficult?
      A. searching fr infrmatin in bks.
      B. Thinking with the infrmatin at hand.
      C. Understanding the teacher’s explanatin.

      B. impacts f science n sciety are debatable.
      C. science shuld be made available t everyne.
      D. settling debates with evidence is in great need.
      30. Why des the authr mentin Galile in Paragraph 6?

      C. T illustrate the develpment f science.
      D. T appreciate scientists’ achievements.

During my years in China as an internatinal student f Chinese language and culture, I was frtunate t explre its rich histry, diverse cultures, and incredible cuisine.

The dish was served in a traditinal manner — each cmpnent presented separately, allwing me t put tgether my bwl accrding t my preference. But I chse t fllw the traditinal methd, adding the raw meat slices, the vegetables, tfu and eggs int the ht brth. Finally, I carefully placed the rice ndles int the bwl.
The first bite was an explsin f flavrs. The brth, made frm slw-simmered (慢炖的) chicken and prk bnes, was rich and deeply cmfrting. The rice ndles were incredibly smth, almst jellylike, yet with a satisfying chewiness. The cmbinatin f fresh ingredients created a balance f textures — tender meat, crisp vegetables, and silky ndles, all cming tgether harmniusly. What amazed me the mst was hw familiar the flavrs felt. The savry taste f the brth, cmbined with the fresh herbs and spices, reminded me f certain Nepali dishes. The cmfrting warmth f the sup brught back memries f hme-cked meals, making the experience even mre meaningful.
Fd is mre than just a meal. Trying the dish in Yunnan was an experience that cnnected me t China’s rich culinary heritage and reaffirmed the deep bnd between fd and culture. Having studied this dish academically years ag, finally tasting it in its authentic frm was a full-circle mment.

14. with 15. grws 16. made
故填with。
make the chice“做出选择”。 故填made。
17. is called 18. prductin 19. which 20. permitting
故填is called。
故填which。

根据Dwnlad the NPS App中“The first step t begin yur natinal park app adventure is t dwnlad the NPS App nt yur mbile devices; such as phnes r tablets.(开启您的国家公园应用之旅的第一步是将NPS应用程序下载到您的移动设备上,如手机或平板电脑。)”
N prblem! Yu can dwnlad cntent frm entire parks fr the use withut an Internet cnnectin.(无连接使用:没有互联网接入? 故选A项。
通读全文,尤其是由文章第一段“The NPS App is the fficial app fr the Natinal Park Service with tls t explre mre than 400 natinal parks. Find interactive maps, turs f park places and n-the-grund accessibility infrmatin befre and during yur trip.(美国国家公园管理局官方应用程序(NPS App)是国家公园管理局的官方专属应用,搭载各类实用工具,可助你探索全美400余座国家公园。 故选A项。
D 25. B 26. C 27. B
根据文章第二段“But a recent study published in the jurnal Nature shws that unrelated members f a superb starling flck (群体) ften help each ther raised chickens, trading assistance t ne anther ver years in a behavir that was nt previusly knwn.
根据划线单词上文“And the team als fund that individual birds that helped nnrelatives ne breeding seasn later had their gd deeds repaid, smetimes repeatedly. 以及所在划线词所在句“Hwever, a grwing bdy f research has led sme scientists t accept that lng-term reciprcal relatinships exist amng sme animals, fr example, whales, bats and elephants.
根据文章第五段““The study makes a cnvincing case,” said Jrg Massen, a behaviral eclgist at Utrecht University. “One next step wuld be t wrk ut hw these lng-term relatinships are maintained day t, day,” he said.(“这项研究给出了令人信服的结论。”
根据文章第二段“But a recent study published in the jurnal Nature shws that unrelated members f a superb starling flck(群体)ften help each ther raised chickens, trading assistance t ne anther ver years in a behavir that was nt previusly knwn.(但《自然》期刊近期发表的一项研究表明,同一鸟群中无血缘关系的丽椋鸟,常常会互相帮忙抚育幼鸟,这种跨年度的互助交换行为此前从未被发现。)”
B 29. C 30. A 31. D
根据第二段“In the real wrld, ne can lk up a wealth f infrmatin, but its validity (可信度) varies. It is the ability t evaluate, test, and reasn with that infrmatin that is f value.(在现实世界中,人们可以查阅大量信息,但这些信息的可信度参差不齐。
根据第六段“Hwever, with ur increasing reliance n science and technlgy, a widespread basic understanding f scientific prcesses is even mre necessary. Mst peple are mre than capable f that understanding if given the pprtunity.(然而,随着我们对科技的依赖程度不断提高,让大众对科学过程有基本的了解变得尤为必要。
根据第六段“Frm Galile t the present, the sharing f scientific infrmatin is nt withut its challenges — it may take enrmus effrts in the face f fear and cnfusin.(从伽利略时代到现在,科学信息的传播并非毫无挑战 —— 面对恐惧和困惑,往往需要付出巨大的努力。)” 故选A项。
根据最后一段“On a scietal level, supprting an educatinal system that values the scientific methd ver memrizatin benefits everyne. Scientific methdlgy shuld nt just be the prvince f scientists. Reasn and a search fr truth shuld nt be limited t the labratry. By making the scientific methd part f the curriculum as mentring and listening t ne anther, we all benefit.(在社会层面上,支持一套重视科学方法而非死记硬背的教育体系,能让所有人受益。
A 33. D 34. F 35. B 36. C
上文“She has an audible library packed with bks t chse frm, and a bkshelf full f her wn bks. 说明女儿有很多自主阅读或听书的途径,下文“She likes the way I d the vices, and we bth enjyed the time bnding and cnnecting tgether. 故选A。
上文“But when we listen t a lved ne, it’s nt just that we get t hear their vice. 强调听亲人朗读的体验不止于听觉,下文“It is a multi-sensry experience that invlves sight, sund, and even tuch if we snuggle clse tgether.
上文“This allws us t truly rest in the mment. 点明听亲人朗读能让人专注当下,前文“Tday, in an age f distractin, we might put n an audibk while walking r running, r t pass the time while driving. In these mments, ur attentin is split, the hnking f hrns (汽车喇叭声) interrupting the vices, r a red light, and the frustratin we feel during drives.
上文“Yu culd ask smene t read t yu, r take turns. Yu culd start a reading-alud bk grup. 列举了开展朗读活动的几种方式,下文“There, they read alud, ffering readers the pprtunity t hear the wrds n the page, exactly as they were intended t sund.
下文“We dn’t knw exactly where it will take us. When we invite thers alng, we may find urselves branching ff in different directins, learning mre abut the wrld, real r imaginary — and, mst magically, abut each ther.
37. The authr’s pity was that she never had the pprtunity t taste Crssing Bridge Rice Ndles during her student years.
      38. Because the flavrs were familiar. /Because the flavrs reminded the authr f certain Nepali dishes.
      39. After putting the ingredients int the bwl accrding t her wn preferences, the authr began t enjy the dish.
The authr put the ingredients int the bwl by fllwing the traditinal methd.
      40. Fd is far mre than a simple means t satisfy ne’s hunger. It serves as a pwerful medium that encapsulates culture, traditins, and memries. Just like in the authr’s case, it can bridge different heritages, creating deep emtinal cnnectins and meaningful experiences.
根据文章第二段“One dish that particularly std ut in my studies was Crssing Bridge Rice Ndles, a specialty frm Yunnan prvince. I learned abut its histry and significance in the classrm, but the pity was that I never had the pprtunity t taste it during my student years.(在我研习过的众多菜品中,云南特色美食过桥米线格外令人印象深刻。 The authr’s pity was that she never had the pprtunity t taste Crssing Bridge Rice Ndles during her student years.
根据文章第四段“What amazed me the mst was hw familiar the flavrs felt. The savry taste f the brth, cmbined with the fresh herbs and spices, reminded me f certain Nepali dishes. The cmfrting warmth f the sup brught back memries f hme-cked meals, making the experience even mre meaningful.(最让我惊喜的是,这味道竟莫名有些熟悉。 Because the flavrs were familiar. /Because the flavrs reminded the authr f certain Nepali dishes.
根据文章第三段“The dish was served in a traditinal manner—each cmpnent presented separately, allwing me t put tgether my bwl accrding t my preference. But I chse t fllw the traditinal methd, adding the raw meat slices, the vegetables, tfu and eggs int the ht brth.(这道菜的吃法十分传统——所有食材都是分开上桌的,食客可以根据自己的喜好自由搭配。 After putting the ingredients int the bwl accrding t her wn preferences, the authr began t enjy the dish. The authr put the ingredients int the bwl by fllwing the traditinal methd.
结合最后一段“Fd is mre than just a meal. Trying the dish in Yunnan was an experience that cnnected me t China’s rich culinary heritage and reaffirmed the deep bnd between fd and culture. Having studied this dish academically years ag, finally tasting it in its authentic frm was a full-circle mment.(食物不仅仅是一顿饭。 Fd is far mre than a simple means t satisfy ne’s hunger. It serves as a pwerful medium that encapsulates culture, traditins, and memries. Just like in the authr’s case, it can bridge different heritages, creating deep emtinal cnnectins and meaningful experiences.
