Dr. Alex Dimitriu, a psychiatrist and sleep medicine dctr in Menl Park, Calif. , says that dreams f feeling unprepared can arise frm stress in yur day-t-day life. But dreaming specifically abut feeling unprepared at schl, he says, culd be because thse are such frmative years in peple’s lives. “Fr a lt f us, schl is really the first time that we gt that feeling f stressful nn-preparatin,” he says.
Anther explanatin, accrding t Seltermanan, an assciate teaching prfessr f psychlgy at Jhns Hpkins University wh researches dreaming, is that peple may be reminded f schl based n the time f year. Fr instance, the end f August and beginning f September may trigger mre memries r dreams f schl, since that’s when the academic year starts.
These types f dreams are s cmmn that having them every nce in a while isn’t typically smething t be cncerned abut. But if yu’ re having them a lt, that culd be a sign f anther issue, such as having t much stress in yur life. Dimitriu recmmends that peple try addressing that stress either by making a change in their life t eliminate it r finding ways t cpe with it.
Sme peple may als have weird r stressful dreams because f pr sleep hygiene (卫生), Dimitriu says. He recmmends that peple g t bed and wake up at rughly the same time each day, and avid eating large meals r drinking alchl befre ging t sleep. And he encurages peple t schedule sme time t unwind befre bed. “The human brain can’t g frm 100 miles per hur t zer in 20 minutes,” he says.

Plastic pllutin remains ne f the mst serius envirnmental prblems wrldwide. Fr many years, scientists have tried t create wrkable bidegradable (可生物降解的) alternatives. Hwever, many plastics, including thse using natural materials like bamb r seaweed, have ften been difficult t break dwn effectively n a large scale, limiting their real-wrld use.
An imprtant step frward nw cmes frm research at Rutgers University, inspired by nature’s wn efficient systems. Nticing that natural materials such as DNA break dwn relatively easily, researchers fund the reasn: these bilgical mlecules (分子) cntain special built-in chemical parts knwn as “neighburing grups.” These grups help the material break dwn frm within. By creating artificial versins f these parts and adding them during the plastic-making prcess, scientists can nw design materials with a specific, planned lifespan — whether meant t last days, mnths, r years.
This new technlgy is t create plastics with finely-tuned lifespans that culd quickly break dwn, shwing great prmise fr shrt-use items. Prducts like fd packaging and ther shrt-lived cnsumer materials culd be made t stay strng during use but degrade safely sn after, ffering a clear envirnmental benefit.
Hwever, the technlgy has limits. It is nt yet suitable fr lng-term uses where materials must stay strng fr decades, such as in buildings r cars. Anther current drawback is its need fr UV light, including rdinary sunlight, t start the breaking-dwn prcess. This means plastics thrwn away in landfills r cvered up will nt break dwn as they shuld.
Key issues must be slved befre wide use. The safety f the small pieces left after breakdwn needs careful testing t make sure they are nt harmful t nature. Scientists are still wrking t imprve the system, mainly aiming t enable decmpsitin (分解) withut light expsure.
Still, this prgress in creating plastics with a planned lifespan is a significant mve frward. By building cntrlled breakdwn int the material itself, it pens a practical path tward smarter plastics that d their jb and then safely disappear, which culd help reduce the lasting prblem f plastic pllutin.
12. What is the advantage f the new plastic develped by researchers?
A. It’s strnger than traditinal plastic.
B. Its breakdwn time can be precisely set.
C. It decmpses faster than regular plastic.
D. It’s made entirely frm natural materials.
13. What enables the new plastic t break dwn?
A. Being buried undergrund fr mnths.
B. Expsure t high temperatures in landfills.
C. Natural materials like seaweed r bamb.
D. Special chemical grups added during prductin.
14. What can we knw abut the decmpsitin prcess?
A. It wrks better in wet cnditins.
B. It requires high temperatures t start.
C. Dark envirnments prevent decmpsitin.
D. The breakdwn prducts are definitely safe.
15. What des the authr think f the the new technlgy?
A. Useless.B. Prmising.C. Perfect.D. Impractical.
