Fr me, life is heavy, filled with difficulties and wrries. I just cannt vercme this emtinal challenge.
But the struggle between English and Chinese is cnstant. When speaking English, I may think in English, but nt cmpletely; the next mment, it switches back t Chinese. Smetimes, I get cnfused, the tw languages mix — ne n tp f the ther. I can hear myself speaking in English, but it feels like I'm thinking in Chinese. Is there really a timeless classic? Recently, histrian Rchelle Gurstein argued in her bk that what seemed "written in stne" was actually "written in water". In ther wrds, a timeless classic is just a matter f creatin, and classics cme and g.
What is seen as a classic changes with peple's tastes, making it hard t praise any ne artwrk. Histry shws that artists' reputatins (名声) rise and fall, frgtten artists are rediscvered, and views n greatness change ften. 1.
Fr instance, Jhann Bach, the master f classical music, was unknwn during his lifetime. His Barque style cnflicted (冲突) with the music changes f his time, as the cmplex Barque music was being replaced by simpler classical frms. After he died in 1750, Bach's music fell ut f fashin until Felix Mendelsshn, a German cmpser, reintrduced his genius t a new generatin in the 1820s.
Changing tastes, new trends and critics' (评论家) pinins shape hw we see art, but art itself has als been develping. Claude Mnet, a French painter and a key figure in the Impressinist mvement, was nce laughed by critics fr his unique style. His unique way f painting cmpletely turned away frm the ppular style f realism at the time, which fcused n accurate images. Hwever, Impressinism later became ne f the mst influential art styles in western histry.
Even thugh Gurstein disagrees, sme cultural therists believe that classics cntain universal values. They argue that what makes a classic timeless is its ability t cnnect with all peple, regardless f the time perid, which gives it lasting imprtance even as the wrld changes. T qute literary critic Charles Augustine Sainte - Beuve, a true classic "is an authr wh has discvered sme mral and [clear] truth... wh has spken t all in his wn unique style".
"Whether 'timeless classics' exist r nt, as lng as we keep discussing what makes a classic tday, it will remain a part f ur culture," the Ecnmist cmmented. The real threat t classic wrks is nt different viewpints - it's silence.
28. What can be inferred abut views n greatness in paragraph 2?
A. They are ften revised.B. They are widely accepted.
C. They are hardly questined.D. They are easily understd.
29. What can be learned abut Jhann Bach frm paragraph 3?
A. His style was behind his time.
B. His music was simple and classical.
C. His influence was gne with his death.
D. His wrk was rediscvered in later years.
30. Why des the authr mentin Claude Mnet and Impressinism?
A. T highlight hw art changes.
B. T suggest realism is utdated.
C. T cmpare Impressinism with classical art.
D. T shw hw Impressinism shaped western art.
31. What is cnsidered the real threat t classic wrks?
A. The rise f new art frms.B. A variety f pinins.
C. A lack f discussin.D. The influence f critics’ ideas.

In suthern Kenya, zlgist Lucy King made a grundbreaking bservatin abut elephants and bees. In 2007, she cnfirmed a lng - held belief amng lcal cmmunities: elephants are terrified f bees. Hwever, while watching a valun elephant named Mhican near a beehive, she fund that bees must be in a grup t scare elephants effectively. When she threw a stne at the hive, the bees caused the elephant t flee. This imprtant mment inspired King t design a nvel slutin: using live beehives as "fences" (围栏) t prtect crps frm elephants searching fr fd.
As human ppulatins in sub - Saharan Africa grew, cnflicts (冲突) between peple and elephants increased. Elephants can destry a farmer’s harvest in a single day, threatening livelihds and fd security. In respnse, sme farmers resrted t shting elephants, wrsening their decline (下降). T address this issue, King and her team at Save the Elephants (STE) began using bee fences in 20 cuntries acrss Africa and Asia. Each kit, csting abut $1,200 and lasting ten years, includes 12 beehives and 12 dummy hives fr better prtectin.
Research shws that these bee fences are significantly mre effective than traditinal methds, such as thrn bushes r lud nises. In a 2017 study, King fund that the fences kept elephants away 80% f the time. Additinally, farmers reprted increased incme frm hney prductin, earning an extra 50t200 per harvest. This nt nly strengthens their finances but als supprts cmmunities, particularly wmen, as they learn beekeeping skills.
Despite their success, bee fences are nt a cmplete slutin. Hney badgers and babns can disturb hives, and envirnmental factrs like drught can lead bees t abandn their hmes. King emphasizes the imprtance f additinal strategies, such as planting crps that elephants dislike.
The creative methd f bee fences shws hw humans and wildlife can live tgether peacefully. By
prtecting crps and prviding new incme surces, these fences nt nly safeguard farmers’ livelihds but als cntribute t elephant prtectin. As King aptly puts it, “A jar f hney saves elephants and feeds mre families.”
32. What led t the new design f Lucy King?
A. Her pure luck.B. Her previus study.C. Her careful bservatins.D. Her cntinuus experiments.
33. What caused the rising human - elephant cnflicts?
A. The rise f lcal ecnmy.B. The increase in lcal ppulatin.
C. The expansin f farming activities.D. The grwth f elephants’ fd demand.
34. Why is the success f bee fences imprtant fr farmers?
A. It ensures hney sales.B. It reduces their wrklad.
C. It remves wildlife threats.D. It prtects their livelihds.
35. Which f the fllwing is prbably the best title f the passage?
A. Strategies fr Effective Beekeeping.B. Prtecting Crps frm Wildlife Damage.
C. The Ecnmic Value f Hney PrductinD. Creative Appraches t Cexisting with Wildlife.
