Music festivals are highly ppular events during the summer mnths, attracting thusands f festival-gers wh camp n-site. Hwever, the questin arises as t whether the tents left behind can be recycled.
While sme festival rganizers claim that they recycle the tents, the answer is nt s straightfrward. Every year, thusands f tents are thrwn away at festivals, and it’s nt just pst-festival laziness r pr weather that is t blame. Accrding t a recent survey, many festival-gers leave their tents behind because they believe they will be dnated t charities. But unfrtunately, this is nly wishful thinking.
Matt Wedge, the directr f Festival Waste Reclamatin & Distributin, says that the number f tents left behind is increasing, estimating that arund 20% f the tents at Leeds Festival were thrwn away, which amunted t abut 7,000 tents. He adds that the number f abandned tents in Reading and Leicester festivals dubles, meaning that 14,000 tents culd have been thrwn away.
In terms f addressing this prblem, ne ppular idea is t emply a tent depsit scheme (押金方案). Under this scheme, festival-gers wuld pay a depsit t bring their tent t the festival, which wuld be returned t them if they take their tent hme. “A similar thing happens with litter. Sme festivals make attendees (参加者) pay a £10 ‘ec bnd’, which will be returned t them if they fill up a bag f rubbish and hand it in at the end f the festival,” Wedge says.
The shcking images f abandned tents are mre than just a cmment n the envirnmental impacts f the festival itself. They are in fact a dramatic symbl f ur thrwaway culture. Just as images f clean fields at Glastnbury represent a refreshing sign f hpe, the final message is t make it a habit t take yur tent hme at least. It’s the best thing peple can d.
8. Why are tents left behind after music festivals accrding t the recent survey?
A. Mst f the tents are f pr quality.
B. Sme peple are t lazy t take the tents hme.
C. Pr weather makes it difficult t recycle the tents.
D. Many peple mistakenly think the tents will be dnated.
9. What can we learn frm the numbers listed in paragraph 3?
A. There is an increasing demand fr tents.
B. A large number f tents are thrwn away.
C. Making tents needs a fair amunt f energy.
D. Festival tickets are mre expensive than tents.
10. What’s paragraph 4 mainly abut?
A. Hw charities deal with the tents.
B. Hw t attract mre festival-gers.
C. Hw t reduce rubbish and tents after festivals.
D. Hw peple view rubbish and tents at festivals.
11. What des the authr intend t d by writing the text?

B. Intrduce ppular music festivals in the wrld.
C. Make peple pay attentin t the quality f tents.

I remember it like it was yesterday. My freshman year basketball tryuts (选拔赛) had gne surprisingly well. I cmpleted every pass and earned a spt as a slid bench player (替补球员). Then this happened — I missed an easy sht ttally fr n reasn. The next day I gt cut frm the team.
“Fail fast and fail ften.” The startup wrld is filled with statements like this. In technlgy and entrepreneurship (企业家) circles, failure has becme smething t chase, nt avid. And science is starting t back this up. A Nature study fund that amng scientists and entrepreneurs, thse wh ultimately succeeded had actually failed mre ften than their less-successful fellws. What set them apart wasn’t luck r genius; it was their ability t learn and adapt quickly after each failure.
Snja Lyubmirsky and Ed Diener, tw leading vices in psitive psychlgy, have shwn that peple wh’ve experienced failure smetimes reprt higher levels f lng-term well-being than thse wh haven’t. Their findings suggest that lasting happiness is fueled less by external wins, like medals r titles, and mre by internal surces: purpse, meaningful relatinships, and persnal grwth.
Hw can we pursue purpse withut being cnsumed by the pain f failure? My suggestin is t rethink purpse, especially “little purpse”, which is abut the prcess, nt the utcme. Say yu dream f becming a best-selling writer. That’s wnderful. But even if the bk desn’t make it nt the New Yrk Times list, the act f writing it, f shaping yur stry, can still be deeply fulfilling.
Perhaps my basketball setback culd have been redefined (重新定义). Instead f quitting the team entirely, maybe I culd have applied t be the equipment manager. I wuld have stayed clse t the sprt I lved, and fund meaning withut needing t be a tp athlete. When success isn’t narrwly defined, failure desn’t clse the dr. It pens new nes. In this way, failure truly becmes the new success.
12. Why is the authr’s basketball experience mentined in paragraph 1?
A. T describe the pain f failure.B. T criticize unfair selectin system.
C. T intrduce the tpic f failure.D. T express regret abut his perfrmance.
13. What des the study in Nature suggest abut successful peple?
A. They are mre likely t fail.B. They are less adaptable t failure.
C. They gain valuable lessns frm failure.D. They wrk in the field f high-tech.
14. What des paragraph 3 mainly talk abut?
A. The shrt-term jy f success.B. The surce f lasting happiness.
C. The mst rewarding way f living.D. The balance f feeling gd and failure.
15. What is the best title fr this text?
A. Why Failure Is the New Success
B. Hw t Get a Sense f Achievement
C. The Rle f Purpse in Persnal Grwth
D. Humans Learn Better frm Direct Experience
