It is the colour of grass and the leaves on trees. It is also the colour of most growing plants. Sometimes, the word “green” means young, fresh and growing. Sometimes it describes something that is not yet ripe or finished. For example, a green hand is someone who has no experience, or who is new to a situation. Someone who has the ability to grow plants well is said to have a green thumb (拇指). A person with a green thumb seems to have a magic touch that makes plants grow quickly and well. You might say that the woman next door has a green thumb if her garden continues to grow long after your plants have died. The Green Revolution (革命) is the name given some years ago to the development of new kinds of rice and other grains. The new plants produced much larger crops. The Green Revolution was the result of hard work by agricultural scientists who had green thumbs. Green is also the colour used to describe such a thing—jealousy (嫉妒). The green-eyed monster (怪物) does not come from outer space. It describes the unpleasant feeling a person has when someone has something he wants. Your friend may suffer from the green-eyed monster if you get a pay rise and he does not.( )26. What does the underlined word “ripe” mean in Paragraph 2?A. Grown. B. Young. C. New. D. Unknown.( )27. In which column (栏目) of a magazine can we most probably read this passage?A. Science in the News. B. The Health Report.C. Words and Their Stories. D. The Education Report.BDo you know why different animals or pests (害虫) have their special colours? Colours in them seem to be used mainly to protect themselves. Some birds like eating locusts (蝗虫), but birds cannot easily catch them. Why? It is because locusts change their colours together with the change of the colours of crops. When crops are green, locusts look green. But as the harvest time comes, locusts change to the same brown colour as crops have. Some other pests with different colours from plants are easily found and eaten by others. So they have to hide themselves in the day and appear only at night. If you study the animal life, you’ll find the main use of colours for animals and pests is to protect themselves. Bears, lions and other animals move quietly through forests. They cannot be seen by hunters. This is because they have the colours much like the trees. Have you ever noticed a strange act? A kind of fish in the sea can send out a kind of very black liquid when it faces danger. While the liquid spreads over, the enemies cannot find it. And it immediately swims away. So it has lived up to now though it isn’t strong at all.( )29. From the passage, we can learn that locusts _______.A. are small animals B. are easily found by birdsC. are dangerous to their enemies D. change their colours to protect themselves( )30. How can pests with different colours from plants keep out of danger?A. They run away quickly. B. Their colours are much like their enemies.C. They hide themselves in the day and appear at night.D. They have to move quietly.( )31. Bears and lions can keep safe because they _______.A. have the colours much like the trees B. move quicklyC. like brown and grey D. live in forests( )32. Which is the best title for this passage?A. The Change of Colours for Animals and PestsB. Colours of Different Animals and PestsC. The Main Use of Colours for Animals and PestsD. Some Animals and PestsCMany of us have seen rainbows in the sky once the sun starts shining again after it rains. For us to see a rainbow, the conditions need to be just right. We need some water drops in the air, like rain or even fog, and we need the sun to be behind us and quite low to the ground. This is because a rainbow is created by light passing through water drops. The light that comes from the sun seems white to us. But the white light we see is made up of a mix of different colors. When the light goes through a raindrop, these colors can separate out. Each of the colors in the rainbow has a different “wavelength” ( 波长). Raindrops look like little balls. When light hits one of these little balls of water, the light can change direction. We call this “refraction” ( 折射). Each of the different wavelengths is refracted differently. If the light hits the raindrop at the right place, the refraction separates the wavelengths out into their different colors. We are taught there are seven colors: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet. But this isn’t exactly true. Blue and green are next to each other in the rainbow, which is why we can see turquoise (a mix of blue and green). Brown is a mix of red and green. But they aren’t next to each other in the rainbow, so we don’t see them mix to make brown. We would never see black or white in a rainbow. Black is what we see when there’s no light at all. On the other hand, white is a mix of all the colors together. When light is refracted by raindrops, it separates the white light out, meaning it is no longer white. ( )33. We can see a rainbow under the right conditions because _______.A. the raindrops are like little balls B. the light goes through raindropsC. the sunshine seems to be colorful D. the weather is foggy after it rains( )34. According to the passage, what can we know about the colors in the rainbow?A. They can become brown or black. B. There are only seven colors in all.C. They mix to make the white light. D. Their own places can be changed.( )35. Which part of a magazine may this passage be taken from?A. Science. B. Health. C. Culture. D. Fashion.( )36. What’s the best title for the passage?A. How are the colors received in the rainbow?B. When can the colors turn blue in the rainbow?C. Which colors aren’t covered with light in the rainbow?D. Why can’t we find white, black and brown in the rainbow?D [2025 常州天宁区期中]It was a week before I saw Captain Nemo again. Every morning, I noticed fresh air coming into the rooms and I knew that the Nautilus had surfaced (浮出水面). I would go out and see the sunrise. Then I received a note from Captain Nemo. He invited me and my friends to go hunting with him in the forests of Crespo Island. Ned was excited because he thought there he could find a chance to escape. When I saw Captain Nemo the next day, I asked him why he was so interested in Crespo Island. “I thought you preferred the sea to being on land.” “I do,” replied the Captain. “But these forests are under the sea.” During breakfast, he explained that he had made diving suits (潜水服) that used special air tanks. These tanks would allow us to stay under the water for ten hours. He had also made lights that worked in electric batteries. When Ned realized that we were not going onto land for our hunting trip, he decided not to come at all. Conseil and I put on our diving suits, and so did Captain Nemo and one of his men. We stepped into a room and closed the door. The room was filled with water, and another door opened. We must go through it, and we were in the sea floor. It was an amazing experience. We were about ten metres under the water. The light from the sun reached us. Everything looked very colourful. We walked over the fine sand and enjoyed the colours of the shells, fish and seaweed. Conseil and I followed Captain Nemo and his man as they crossed a large grassy area. We were going deeper and deeper. Two hours later, we were a hundred metres under the water. The suits worked very well, and it was easy to walk and breathe. At one hundred metres deep, we could still see quite well, and Captain Nemo stopped and pointed to some dark shapes. This was the forest. The “trees” in the forest were giant seaweed, and all their branches were vertical (垂直的). We could not stop looking at them. Fish swam around the branches like birds in a forest. Small shrubs (灌木) grew under the large seaweed trees. Some of them had flowers. We walked through this forest for about an hour, and then we lay down to rest. I was not hungry, but I was very sleepy. We all slept, and when we woke up, we walked further.—Adapted from Twenty Thousand Leagues Under The Sea( )37. What do you think the Nautilus is?A. A kind of transport on land. B.
