In the scientific histry, few rivalries (竞争) have captured the imaginatin like the ne between Nikla Tesla and Thmas Edisn. These tw inventrs, each with their unique appraches and visins, engaged in a fierce cmpetitin that frever transfrmed the wrld f electricity and innvatin.
The paths f Nikla Tesla and Thmas Edisn first crssed in the late 1800s when Tesla arrived in the United States with his bundless enthusiasm and inventive spirit. Tesla, a yung Serbian engineer, sught pprtunities t wrk n his ambitius ideas. Edisn, already an established inventr and entrepreneur, recgnised Tesla's talent and emplyed him at his cmpany.
It was during Tesla's time wrking fr Edisn that the seeds f rivalry were swn. Edisn advcated direct current (DC) as the dminant methd fr electrical distributin, while Tesla saw the ptential f alternating current (AC) systems, which ffered greater efficiency ver lnger distances.
The turning pint in their rivalry ccurred with the Chicag Wrld's Fair in 1893. Tesla, backed by Gerge Westinghuse, successfully shwcased the superirity f AC by lighting the fairgrunds with his AC - pwered system. This success crushed Edisn's claims f DC's superirity, leading t the widespread adptin f AC as the standard fr electrical pwer transmissin (传输).
Hwever, due t Edisn's influence, AC pwer was initially dismissed as dangerus and unreliable. In rder t demnstrate its safety, Tesla held a public demnstratin where he famusly lit up a string f lights using his AC mtr pwered by Niagara Falls, prving nce and fr all that AC pwer was safe fr use in hmes and businesses arund the wrld.
While bth sides fught fiercely fr cntrl f electricity distributin netwrks acrss America, it was ultimately Tesla's AC system that wn ut due t its greater efficiency ver lng distances cmpared with DC systems which quickly lst vltage (电压) as distance increased frm their surce pint. Eventually even Edisn himself came arund and accepted defeat when he finally admitted that "Tesla has slved an extremely difficult prblem".
Despite their differences, the tw men had an unwilling respect fr each ther. Edisn was knwn t refer t Tesla as "ne f the greatest electrical geniuses the wrld has ever seen" while Tesla praised Edisn's cntributins t
the field f electricity. Thugh their rivalry defined the develpment f electricity in the late 19th century, its impact still resnates (产生共鸣) tday.
24. In which aspect did Tesla's and Edisn's views n electrical systems differ?
A. The surce f electrical pwer.B. The inventin f electrical devices.
C. The efficiency f pwer generatin.D. The methd f electrical transmissin.
25. Hw did Tesla prve the reliability f AC pwer?
A. By cnducting a public experiment at Niagara Falls.
B. By displaying AC - pwered lighting in a cmmunity.
C. By getting supprt frm Gerge Westinghuse.
D. By highlighting the limitatins f DC pwer.
26. Why did Tesla's AC system finally achieve success?
A. It prvided higher vltage utputs.
B. It was easier t perate and maintain.
C. It had superir lng - range perfrmance.
D. It received mre financial backing.
27. What message des the authr want t cnvey in the text?

Fr ver a century, hypdermic needles have been a standard tl in medicine. Despite advances in medical technlgy, the basic design f needles - a hllw, pinted tube - has remained largely unchanged. With luck, that may sn change. As Yichi Ma, a mechanical engineer at the University f Califrnia, Berkeley, and his clleagues utline in a review paper in Bimimetic Intelligence and Rbtics, researchers arund the wrld are nw turning t nature fr inspiratin t create less painful and mre effective needles.
An bvius surce f ideas has been msquites, which manage t extract their bld meals almst painlessly. One reasn is that the insects emply sme specific chemicals when they first pierce the skin. But anther has t d with the shape and actin f their muth parts. Their prbscis has a serrated (锯齿状的), sft tip and vibrates as it pierces the skin, reducing the frce needed. Scientists have develped needles imitating this design, which require 27% less insertin frce than traditinal needles. These "msquit needles" culd imprve delicate prcedures like bipsies (活组织检查), where precisin is critical.
Anther challenge is guiding lng, thin needles deep int the bdy withut
bending r breaking. Researchers studied female wasps, which use needle - like vipsitrs (产卵管) t drill int wd r fruit befre depsiting eggs. They cnsist f sliding sectins, similar t an extending telescpe. By cpying this structure with special wires, scientists created ultra - thin needles that can navigate tissues like the liver withut damage, ptentially reducing the need fr surgery.
There are ther ideas, t. One is a needle that swells at the end nce inserted, inspired by a wrm that attaches itself t fishes. Anther is an injectr that can precisely steer the flw f drugs acrss its surfaces. It is cpied frm Eurpean true bugs, a family which includes aphid and bed bugs. Sme can use micr structures t steer defensive chemicals arund the utsides f their bdies.
Fr nw, such devices remain restricted t labs. But there is a big market fr better needles. Accrding t the Wrld Health Organisatin, ne persn in fur says they suffer frm a fear f needles, s the savings n stickers and sweets fr the brave suls wh rll up their sleeves wuld be cnsiderable.
28. Hw d msquit - inspired needles reduce pain?
A. By being shrter and thinner.
B. By using chemicals t numb the skin.
C. By being sfter than traditinal needles.
D. By vibrating and requiring less insertin frce.
29. What can we infer abut wasp - inspired needles?
A. They are mainly used fr bipsies.
B. They can bend easily withut breaking.
C. They may reduce the need fr sme surgeries.
D. They are already widely used in hspitals.
30. What is the advantage f the needle inspired by Eurpean true bugs?
A. It can vibrate t reduce insertin pain.
B. It can swell after entering the bdy.
C. It can precisely cntrl drug delivery.
D. It can drill int hard tissues easily.
31. Which f the fllwing is the best title fr the text?
A. The Histry f Hypdermic Needles.
B. Nature's Blueprint fr Better Needles.
C. Hw Msquites Inspire Medical Tls.
D. The WHO's Reprt n Needle Fear.

We learn abut the wrld thrugh the knwledge accumulated ver thusands f years. Standing n the shulders f great men, we dn't have t experience endless trial and errr, just as the wheels d nt have t be reinvented each time t run a car. But where des ur ability t learn frm thers cme
frm?
A study led by Markus Paulus, prfessr at Lyla Marymunt University, shws that the ability has its rts in earliest childhd. “It’s generally assumed that children’s ability t imitate is inbrn, but accrding t ur bservatin, children imitate because they themselves are imitated by caregivers. This interactin enables a cultural transfer f knwledge, which, thrugh generatins’ effrts, cnsequently leads t the develpment f human beings,” says Markus Paulus.
In this research, Paulus recrded the interactin between mther and child ver several mnths. The babies came int the lab fr the first time at the age f 6 mnths, while their final visit was when they were 18 mnths ld. As they engaged in varius play situatins, the interactins and imitatins f mther and child were analyzed. The lng - term study shwed that the mre sensitive a mther was in her interactins with her six - mnth - ld child and the mre ften she imitated the baby, the greater the child’s verall ability was at the age f 18 mnths.
Paulus’ research shws that mutual imitatin is the keystne f knwledge transfer, thrugh which children successfully learn varius skills, such as hw t use bjects, waving, and acquisitin f language. “This interactin is the nucleus f learning and, finally, gives rise t evlutinary success f human,” says Paulus.
“Cultural learning is an essential part f human evlutin, and it is rted in the imitatin f thers, particularly ur caregivers during ur earliest childhd,” says Paulus. “Thrugh this, we learn frm each ther and pass n knwledge t the next generatin, s certain actins r techniques d nt have t be cnstantly invented again.”
32. Why des the authr mentin the example f wheels?
A. T praise the inventin f car wheels
B. T describe the prcess f trial and errr.
C. T emphasize the necessity f new tls.
D. T shw the imprtance f prir knwledge.
33. What can we learn abut Paulus’ research?
A. Children’s imitatin was recrded by mthers.
B. Sensitive mthers encuraged children’s imitatin.
C. Children’s ability was analyzed thrugh interactin.
D. Effective interactin prmted children’s develpment.
34. What des the underlined wrd “nucleus” mean in paragraph 4?
A. Cre.B. Result.C. Aim.D. Cntent.
35. Which f the fllwing can be the best title fr the text?
A. Why des Evlutin Matter?B. Hw t Interact with Children?
C. Imitatin: The Engine f EvlutinD. Cultural Learning: The Rt f Imitatin
