When I was yunger, I lved pening surprise bags. They came with candies and a ty, and yu never knew what surprises lay within. Nw I still lve surprise bags, but I pen a different type f surprise bag: ne filled with artifacts (手工制品).
Part f my jb in a museum is catalguing (编入目录) unprcessed dnatins. Smetimes when a cllectin arrives, it is in a srry state after being excavated (挖掘). It is ften cvered in dirt, and it can be difficult t tell exactly what each item is. That’s where the fun part starts. I get t wash everything and then discver the artifacts that are revealed! There is nthing like the feeling f being the first t see a piece f histry after it has been cnserved, particularly with the knwledge f its pssible age f thusands f years.
Once washed and dried, the artifacts are identified with the help f the museum’s cmparative cllectins, which have been thughtfully rganized ver many years in rder t shw representative examples f different types f artifacts. After being identified, the artifacts are entered int the museum’s cllectins database. Once n the database, a unique catalgue card must be printed fr each artifact. Next, the artifacts are labeled with a unique catalgue number and put away in ur strage rm. This detailed prcess f recrd-keeping, as well as maintaining a prperly rganized cllectins strage rm, is an imprtant part f cllectins management. It allws us t knw where each artifact is at all times and makes it cnvenient fr researchers t access ur cllectins.
I started wrking in the museum wrld 25 years ag, and I have been lucky enugh t wrk with the wnderful surprises that this fascinating discipline ffers. Cme visit a museum — yu never knw what surprises await yu!
      4. What des the authr suggest by mentining her childhd surprise bags?
      A. Her expertise in artifacts.
      B. The jy f unexpected discvery.
      C. Her early cnnectin t artifacts.
      D. The imprtance f cllecting rare items.
      5. Hw des the authr feel abut cleaning the items?
      A. Excited.B. Peaceful.C. Regretful.D. Tired.
      6. What is the primary purpse f the detailed catalguing prcess?
      A. T make the mst f the strage rm.
      B. T prepare artifacts fr public exhibitin.
      C. T keep a cmprehensive histrical recrd.
      D. T track the precise lcatin f every artifact.
      7. What can we learn frm the authr’s stry?
      A. Rme wasn’t built in a day.B. Great hpes make great men.
      C. Knwledge keeps heritage alive.D. Passin turns rutine int purpse.
      C
When we’re cnfrnting a cnfusing prblem, we ften gather a grup t brainstrm. We’re lking t the team t get the best ideas as quickly as pssible. I lve seeing it happen — except fr ne catch. Grup brainstrming usually backfires.
In brainstrming meetings, many gd ideas are lst. Extensive evidence shws that when we generate ideas tgether, we fail t maximize cllective intelligence. Brainstrming grups fall s far shrt f their ptential that we may get mre and better ideas if we all wrk alne. As the humrist Dave Barry said, “If yu had t identify, in ne wrd, the reasn why the human race has nt achieved and never will achieve its full ptential, that wrd wuld be: meetings.” But the prblem isn’t meetings themselves; it’s hw we run them.
Yu’ve prbably seen peple bite their tngues in meetings due t eg threat (“I dn’t want t lk stupid.”), nise (“We can’t all talk at nce.”), and pressure t fit in (“Let’s all jump n the bss’s ship!”). Gdbye, diversity f thught; hell, grupthink. These challenges are greater fr peple wh lack pwer r status: the mst junir persn in the rm r an intrvert (内向的人) lst in a sea f extrverts.
T unearth the hidden ptential in teams, instead f brainstrming, we are better ff shifting t “brainwriting”. The initial steps are alne. Yu start by asking everyne t generate ideas separately. Next, yu pl them and share them amng the grup withut mentining the names. Each member evaluates the ideas n their wn. When ideas are develped and assessed individually befre being chsen cllectively, pssibilities that might therwise g unnticed can surface and be advanced.
In brainstrming meetings, it’s t easy fr participatin t lean tward the biggest egs, the ludest vices, and the mst pwerful peple. The brainwriting prcess makes sure that all ideas are brught t the table. The gal isn’t t be the smartest persn in the rm; it’s t make the rm smarter.
      8. What can replace the wrd “catch” underlined in paragraph 1?
      A. Rare case.B. Helpful suggestin.
      C. Hidden prblem.D. Special requirement.
      9. Paragraph 3 is mainly abut ____________ f brainstrming meetings.
      A. ptential benefitsB. typical utcmes
      C. standard prceduresD. causes f ineffectiveness
      10. Why is brainwriting better?
      A. It simplifies the prcedures.B. It requires fewer participants.
      C. It ensures balanced participatin.D. It uses a mre structured apprach.
      11. What’s the purpse f the text?
      A. T explain a thery.B. T encurage a practice.
      C. T make a cmparisn.D. T challenge a decisin.
      D
The Anthrpcene (人类世) is a new term t describe ur age. The beds f rck being created under ur feet tday will be the recrd f ur era. Future gelgists (地质学家) will find huge cncentratins f plastics, the fallut frm the burning f fssil fuels and large amunts f cement (水泥) used t build ur cities. Meanwhile, a majr reprt shws an average decline f 73% f wild animal ppulatins n Earth ver the past 50 years.
Nwadays, humans have cncentrated in cities. But smewhere deep within, a desire fr cntact with nature remains.
We hliday n man-made beaches, attend zs that display living animals in lifelike versins f their natural hmes, and visit amusement parks that ffer a “jungle experience”. In these places, everything repeats itself and nature is made safe — n dangerus plants, biting insects, flding r unpredictable creatures.
Mrever, even the surviving pckets f nature in the real wrld are becming packaged fr ur cnsumptin. Ysemite Natinal Park in Califrnia receives mre than 4 millin visitrs a year. Ski turists are becming mre demanding, t. Everybdy wants a winter wnderland, despite warming temperatures. As a result, sme nw rely almst entirely n artificial snw prductin.
Obviusly, we are reshaping the Earth’s ecsystem. We have becme the masters f ur planet and the key t the future f life n Earth. But it seems that we are nt prepared fr the enrmus side effects f ur new pwer ver ur planet. Scial media and the Internet’s endless infrmatin have led t a sense f unreality, where we are n lnger lking fr truth, but nly a kind f amazement.
Our future depends n an urgent rethink f humanity’s relatinship with the natural wrld. We have separated urselves frm nature, yet we still want a cnnectin with the very thing that we have turned ur back n. In surrunding urselves with artificial recreatins f nature we unintentinally create mnuments (纪念碑) t the very things that we have lst.
      12. What des paragraph 1 mainly fcus n?
      A. The great impact f human activity.
      B. The rapid disappearance f wildlife.
      C. The unexpected change in a new era.
      D. The increased usage f plastics and cement.
      13. What is a cmmn feature f man-made nature experiences?
      A. They help peple truly understand nature.
      B. They are mre attractive than real nature.
      C. They ffer riskless cntact with nature.
      D. They prvide varius unexpected surprises.
      14. What is the authr’s purpse in mentining Ysemite and ski resrts?
      A. T display nature repurpsed fr turism.
      B. T cmpare artificial and natural landscapes.
      C. T highlight the ppularity f utdr activities.
      D. T criticize the envirnmental impact f mdem turism.
      15. Which statement wuld the authr mst prbably agree with?
      A. Recreating nature prduces artificial wnders.
      B. Ignring side effects raises envirnmental issues.
      C. Seeking amazement deepens ur bnd with nature.
      D. Balancing the human-nature relatinship ensures sustainability.

      Encurage skepticism (怀疑).
Children’s skepticism is cntext-specific. Practice strategic disengagement (脱离).
Critical thinking is slw and deliberate. Scrlling thrugh a scial media feed is quite the ppsite. Even when a questinable pst aruses skepticism, that feeling might fade as sn as a newer piece f cntent appears. ____20____ Taking frequent breaks can stp the habit f endless, passive cnsumptin. Anther simple strategy is t teach children that if smething aruses strng emtins, they shuld pause.

Agnes Cper appeared t be in her seventies. We were just mving a bed int the huse next t her tw-stry hme when Mrs. Cper walked up t ur frnt dr. She lked at my twelve-year-ld sn, Max, and then at me, saying, “Make sure yu keep that child ut f my yard!”
