III. Teaching Prcedures
1. Lead - in (5 minutes)
Activity: Shw sme pictures f students' daily interactins with friends (e.g., studying tgether, playing sprts). Ask students: “Wh are these peple in the pictures? D yu have gd friends? What d yu usually d with yur friends?”
Purpse: Aruse students' interest in the tpic f friendship and activate their prir knwledge.
2. Presentatin (10 minutes)
Vcabulary Teaching:
Present the new wrds (helpful, hnest, cheerful, humrus, caring) ne by ne. Fr “helpful”, use an example like “A helpful friend will help yu carry bks.”; fr “hnest”, say “An hnest friend always tells the truth.” Use simple definitins and example sentences. Let students repeat the wrds after yu, paying attentin t prnunciatin.
D a quick vcabulary drill: Say the Chinese meaning, and students say the English wrd, and vice versa.
Sentence Pattern Intrductin:
Write the sentence pattern “What d yu think makes gd friends?” and “I think gd friends shuld be...” n the blackbard. Explain that it's used t discuss pinins abut friend qualities. Give examples, such as “What d yu think makes gd friends? I think gd friends shuld be cheerful.”
3. Practice (15 minutes)
Task A Practice:
Let students d Task A individually first. They match the qualities with the explanatins. Then check the answers tgether as a class. Fr each answer, ask a student t explain why, e.g., “Why is ‘hnest’ matched with ‘Tell the truth’? Because an hnest persn tells the truth.”
Pair - wrk fr Task B:
Divide students int pairs. Let them practice the cnversatin mdel in Task B. Encurage them t use the new vcabulary and make substitutins. Fr example, they can use ther qualities like “clever” “friendly” etc. Walk arund the classrm t ffer help with prnunciatin and expressin.
Select 2 - 3 pairs t perfrm their cnversatins in frnt f the class. Give psitive feedback and crrect minr mistakes.
4. Prductin (10 minutes)
Class Discussin:
Raise the questin “What ther qualities d yu think are imprtant fr gd friends?” Let students think and then share their ideas in class. Guide them t use the learned wrds and sentence patterns, such as “I think gd friends shuld als be respectful. They respect my pinins.”
Fr Task C, ask students t think abut their wn qualities as friends. Then invite sme students t share with the class, using the sentence “I think I have the quality f... as a friend. Fr example, I am helpful because I ften help my friends with their hmewrk.”
5. Summary (3 minutes)
Review:
Summarize the key vcabulary (helpful, hnest, cheerful, humrus, caring) and the sentence patterns fr discussing friend qualities.
Emphasize the imprtance f these qualities in building and maintaining friendships.
6. Hmewrk (2 minutes)
Assignment:
Write a shrt passage (abut 50 - 80 wrds) titled “My Views n Gd Friend Qualities”, using the new vcabulary and sentence patterns.
Prepare t share mre persnal stries abut hw yur friends' qualities have influenced yu in the next class.
