New glve can translate sign language instantly thrugh an app researchers say
Califrnia researchers develped a glve embedded with electrnic sensrs that can translate American Sign Language (ASL) int English in real time thrugh an app n yur smartphne.
Unlike its past cunterparts, the new glve is lightweight, inexpensive and lng-lasting. The device culd help remve cmmunicatin barriers between signers and nn-signers. Hpefully, this may pen up an easy way fr peple wh use sign language t cmmunicate directly with nn-signers withut needing smene else t translate fr them.
The team wrked with fur peple wh are deaf and use ASL and had them repeat gestures up t 15 times while wearing the glve-like device, simultaneusly teaching a machine hw t recgnize them.
The glve has thin, stretchable sensrs made frm “electrically cnducting yarns” that run up each finger and cnvert the mvements int signals. These signals are sent t a “dllar-cin-sized” circuit bard placed n the persn’s wrist, which then wirelessly transfers them ver t a smartphne.
The system was able t recgnize 660 hand mtins and finger placements that stand fr each letter in the English alphabet, different phrases and each number. The algrithm (计算程序) recgnized the crrect signs abut 99% f the time, and in less than ne secnd — r abut a tne wrd per secnd.
The researchers als placed sensrs in between the participants eyebrws and n the sides f their muths t “capture facial expressins that are a part f ASL”. The same exact hand-shape and mvement can ttally change meaning because f the facial expressin that is used t accmpany it. Take the wrd MUCH. The degree f hw much can ttally be determined by the facial expressin alne while the sign stays the same.
Researchers said the glve wuld need t learn mre vcabulary and be able t translate signs faster in rder t get a cmmercial versin f it in stres.
      28. Wh is the new glve intended fr?
      A. Translatrs.B. Deaf peple.
      C. English learners.D. Sign language users.
      29. What des Paragraph 4 mainly say abut the new glve?

      C. Its wrking principle.D. Its brad applicatins.

      B. By lengthening the time f catching gestures.
      C. By inputting mre letters and wrds in English.
      D. By catching infrmatin frm participants’ faces.
      31. What will researchers d with the glve in the future?

      C. Extend its service life.D. Imprve its perfrmance.

At a summit (峰会) in Paris, tech leaders shared their visins fr the future f AI. Sam Altman f OpenAI wrte that “In a decade perhaps everyne n earth will be capable f accmplishing mre than the mst impactful persn can tday.”

Althugh AI may at first bst prductivity, its lng-term impact will be t cmmditise (商品化) skills and autmate tasks.
In cmplex tasks such as research and management, new evidence indicates that high perfrmers are best psitined t wrk with AI. Aidan Tner-Rdgers f MIT fund that tp researchers nearly dubled their prductivity using AI fr materials discvery, while having n measurable impact n the bttm third. Leading scientists, armed with prfessinal knwledge, culd identify prmising suggestins and get rid f useless nes. Less effective researchers, by cntrast, struggled t select useful utputs frm irrelevant nes.
Hwever, persnally, tday’s AI tls are just the beginning. As the technlgy grws mre advanced, it may transfrm wrkplaces, reshaping hw we wrk and cmpete.
      32. What did experts expect frm AI tls at first?
      A. They wuld replace human jbs quickly.
      B. They wuld help the wrkers get prmted.
      C. They wuld ensure fair chance fr wrkers.
      D. They wuld be widely used in tech industries.
      33. Hw des the authr develp paragraph 3?
      A. By discussing ptential risks f AI tls.
      B. By prviding examples t shw AI’s impact.
      C. By explaining the wrking principle f AI tls.
      D. By analyzing the lng-term effect f AI n jbs.
      34. What d we knw abut the bttm third in Aidan’s study?
      A. They benefited the mst frm AI.
      B. They stpped using AI after the study.
      C. They utperfrmed the tp researchers.
      D. They had difficulty using AI effectively.
      35. What is the main idea f the passage?
      A. AI has bth psitive and negative impacts n wrkfrce prductivity.
      B. AI benefits high perfrmers mre than less effective wrkers.
      C. AI tls will cmpletely replace human wrkers in the future.
      D. AI is the key t slving glbal inequality in the jb market.

      【27题详解】
推理判断题。根据文章第三段“Innvatively, Weihmuller uses a unique teaching methd t enhance cmmunicatin amng jazz students.(Weihmuller教授采用独特的教学方法,加强爵士乐学生之间的交流)”可知,Weihmuller有创造性;再根据第四段“Reflecting n his early struggles with sheet music, Weihmuller recalled the challenge f btaining braille (盲文) music, which was nt as accessible then as it is tday. T vercme this bstacle, he had t create his wn braille music, a prcess that cntinued thrugh his cllege years.(回想起他早期与乐谱的斗争,Weihmuller回忆起获得盲文音乐的挑战,当时不像今天这样容易获得。为了克服这个障碍,他不得不创作自己的盲文音乐,这个过程一直持续到他的大学时代)”可知,他是一个有决心的人。故选C。

New glve can translate sign language instantly thrugh an app, researchers say

      B. By lengthening the time f catching gestures.
      C. By inputting mre letters and wrds in English.
      D. By catching infrmatin frm participants’ faces.
