Imagine a wrld where lack f space n lnger limits ur energy pssibilities, and with just a small piece f land, husehlds can generate clean energy fr decades!

Shani’s jurney int slar innvatin began in 2018 while wrking at Pandit Deendayal Energy University. Reflecting n his early days there, Shani shares, “A slar pwer plant was set up n six acres f land. The cst f land was mre than 115 millin dllars.”
It was there that Shani realized the great challenge slar energy faced: large land requirement. “I knew there had t be a mre efficient slutin,” he adds. And the experience led him t finally create the “slar tree”: a striking innvatin that maximizes energy prductin while minimizing land usage.
Anther Shani’s ntable innvatin is the slar tile (瓦片). With a 20-watt capacity per tile, 150 tiles can prvide sufficient pwer fr a typical husehld. These tiles can withstand weight and weather — perfect fr rftp installatins — withut sacrificing living areas. Mrever, they are crafted frm single-use plastic waste. A cuple f years ag, Rbert Wlfe was experimenting with an AI system. He wanted it t cmplete the sentence, “The teenager _________ at schl.” Wlfe, a dctral student f the University f Washingtn (UW) in the Infrmatin Schl, had expected smething rdinary, smething that mst teens d regularly — perhaps “studied”. But the mdel typed in “died”.
This shcking respnse led Wlfe and a UW team t study hw AI systems prtray (描绘) teens. The researchers lked at tw cmmn AI systems, ne trained in English and the ther in Nepali. They wanted t cmpare mdels trained n data frm different cultures.
In the English-language system, abut 30% f the respnses referred t scietal prblems such as vilence and mental illness. The Nepali system prduced fewer negative assciatins in respnse, clser t 10% f all answers.
T cmpare the AI utputs t the lives f actual teens, researchers studied 13 American and 18 Nepalese teens fr wrkshps. They asked the participants t write wrds that came t mind abut teenagers, t rate 20 wrds n hw well they describe teens and t cmplete the prmpts (提示) given t the AI mdels. The similarities between the AI systems’ respnses and the teens’ were limited. Neither grup felt that an AI system trained n media data wuld accurately represent teens in their cultures.
“We fund that the ways teens viewed themselves and the ways the systems ften prtrayed them were cmpletely unrelated,” said Wlfe. “Fr instance, the ways teens cntinued the prmpts we gave AI mdels were incredibly rdinary. They talked abut hbbies and being with their friends, whereas the mdels brught up things like cmmitting crimes.”
The researchers cncluded that the systems’ inaccurate prtrayal f teens came in part frm the abundance f negative media cverage abut teens; in sme cases, the mdels cited media as the surce f their utputs. News stries are seen as “high-quality” training data, because they’ re ften factual, but they frequently fcus n negative stries, nt the day-t-day parts f mst teens’ lives.
32. Hw did the Nepali AI system differ frm the English-language system?
A. It fcused mre n mental health issues.
B. It accurately reflected teenagers’ daily lives.
C. It relied n news stries as its primary training data.
D. It generated fewer negative assciatins abut teens.

A. Unfavurable.B. Cncerned.C. Objective.D. Tlerant.
34. What has partly led t AI systems’ negative prtrayals f teens?
A. Absence f cultural diversity in training data.
B. Media’s emphasis n dramatic r negative stries.
C. Ignrance f teens’ self-reprted infrmatin.
D. AI systems’ inability t understand human emtins.
35. Which f the fllwing might imprve AI training?
A. Instructing AI t avid any negative tpics.

33. What is the surveyed teens’ attitude t the AI systems’ respnses?
A. Unfavurable.B. Cncerned.C. Objective.D. Tlerant.
34. What has partly led t AI systems’ negative prtrayals f teens?
A. Absence f cultural diversity in training data.
B. Media’s emphasis n dramatic r negative stries.
C. Ignrance f teens’ self-reprted infrmatin.
D. AI systems’ inability t understand human emtins.
35. Which f the fllwing might imprve AI training?
A. Instructing AI t avid any negative tpics.
B. Cmbining data frm multiple AI systems.
C. Develping stricter regulatins fr AI develpment.
D. Encuraging teens t share their daily experiences.
【答案】32. D 33. A 34. B 35. D

【导语】本文是一篇说明文。文章主要讲述了研究人员发现AI系统对青少年的描绘多为负面,源于训练数据中负面新闻报道过多,而非青少年真实生活的反映。
【32题详解】
细节理解题。根据第三段“In the English-language system, abut 30% f the respnses referred t scietal prblems such as vilence and mental illness. The Nepali system prduced fewer negative assciatins in respnse, clser t 10% f all answers.(在英语系统中,大约30%的回答涉及暴力和精神疾病等社会问题。尼泊尔的系统在回答中产生的负面联想较少,接近所有答案的10%)”可知,尼泊尔语人工智能系统与英语语言系统的不同在于它对青少年产生的负面联想更少,故选D。
【33题详解】
推理判断题。根据第四段最后两句“The similarities between the AI systems’ respnses and the teens’ were limited. Neither grup felt that an AI system trained n media data wuld accurately represent teens in their cultures.(人工智能系统的反应与青少年之间的相似之处有限。两组人都认为,接受媒体数据训练的人工智能系统不能准确地代表他们文化中的青少年)”可推知,被调查的青少年对AI系统的回复持不赞成的态度,故选A。
【34题详解】
细节理解题。根据最后一段第一句“The researchers cncluded that the systems’ inaccurate prtrayal f teens came in part frm the abundance f negative media cverage abut teens; in sme cases, the mdels cited media as the surce f their utputs.(研究人员得出结论,该系统对青少年的不准确描述部分来自于媒体对青少年的大量负面报道;在某些情况下,这些模型引用媒体作为其产出的来源)”可知,媒体对戏剧性或负面故事的强调导致了人工智能系统对青少年的负面描绘,故选B。
【35题详解】
推理判断题。根据全文内容,结合最后一段中“News stries are seen as ‘high-quality’ training data, because they’re ften factual, but they frequently fcus n negative stries, nt the day-t-day parts f mst teens’ lives.(新闻报道被视为‘高质量’的训练数据,因为它们通常是事实,但它们经常关注负面故事,而不是大多数青少年生活的日常部分)”可知,文章主要介绍了AI系统对青少年的描述偏负面的情况,部分原因是训练数据过度依赖新闻报道,而这些报道过多关注青少年的负面事件。由此可推知,鼓励青少年分享他们的日常经历可能会改善人工智能的训练,使训练数据更能反映青少年的真实生活。故选D。
