As I begin t tell my friends and family abut the seven days yu treated my wife, Laura, in what turned ut t be the last days f her yung life. They stp me at abut the 15th name that I recall. Brn t a mdel mm and a suit maker dad, fashin was actually in my bld. I always had a strng desire t dress in a certain way and t stand ut frm the crwd.
I made my wn tys when I was a yung child and sewed my first skirt at just 10 years ld. A friend’s mther tk ne lk at my skirt and tld me that I shuld be a patternmaker. In high schl I started making my wn clthes, mstly changing ther things because I never liked anything hw it was when I bught it. During the last tw years f schl, I wrked part-time fr a small business that made hand-painted silk clthing and bags. The wner became the teacher wh gt me int design in the first place. Anther useful bit f wrk experience then came when I wrked at a shwrm during fashin week and fund it very exciting. Frm there I wrked at a tp clthing stre while I gt my business started.
Fr my business I started ut with the idea that everything I did wuld be hand-made and ne-f-a-kind, specially made fr ne individual wh hpefully had the same tastes as me. Every mrning I jumped ut f bed, went t my studi and wrked n my prjects. This just shwed hw enthusiastic I felt abut my wrk. And at night I even dreamed f new designs!
Fashin design is functinal art. What I mean is that it’s smething clse t yu and smething yu can tuch and feel, and actually interact with. My advice t any yung persn wh wants t be a fashin designer is t get the basic skills early n, such as sewing and pattern-making. Even if yu end up specializing, it’s really imprtant t understand all aspects f design in rder t make high-quality clthes.
Als, if yu dream f having yur wn clthing line, the best thing t d is start wearing yur clthes. Yu have t try and d this because that’s the way yu’re ging t develp smething that’s all yurs and unlike anyne else’s. I passinately believe that the right clthing can make peple feel better and give them mre cnfidence.

      Fact r Fictin?
Nn-fictin can be brken dwn int many categries. One categry is literary nn-fictin, which is still based in fact but emplys sme f the strytelling elements that fictin uses. Literary nn-fictin includes a type f autbigraphy called memir. Memir mst ften fcuses n a certain perid f the authr’s life. It is, by definitin, rted in truth. Still, peple smetimes questin whether memir shuld be categrized as nn-fictin at all.
As nn-fictin, memir is intended t be factual. Is this really the case, thugh, cnsidering memir relies n human memry? One classic study, led by psychlgist Elizabeth Lftus, shwed hw easily an interviewer’s chice f wrding can influence an eyewitness’s accunt f a traffic accident. It is therefre reasnable t wnder whether memir shuld cntinue t be branded as nn-fictin.
Certainly, human memry can be unreliable. Hwever, a memir authr is undubtedly writing abut significant and impactful life events. Memries f such events are actually mre reliable than thers. Studies shw that the mre influential an event is, the mre accurately peple recall the details. As an emtinally charged event unflds, the brain activity changes in a way that amplifies small details. This activity helps build a mre precise and accurate memry.
Of curse the brain is nt a camera that can “save” any memry with perfect accuracy. But if memir is questinable due t the imperfectins f the human mind, then critics will have t tackle nn-fictin mre bradly. All writers are using their memries when they create, and mrever, they are relying n the memries f thers. Jurnalists cnduct interviews t tell a news stry and histry writers depend n the accuracy f accunts frm lng ag. Yet they all rightfully fall under the umbrella f nn-fictin.
Sme peple may dubt memir nt because they mistrust human memry, but because they mistrust the authr’s mrality. Critics may suspect an authr f making up events. Hwever, there is n reasn t be suspicius f memir authr’s intentins. Writing a factual memir that appeals t readers has the ptential t be prfitable fr the authr, and there is n mtivatin fr a memir writer t knwingly change r beautify the truth.
Lking beynd the authr’s wn life events, memir can infrm readers abut the wrld in the same way that ther nn-fictin can. Memir has a way f relaying facts abut anything frm an ccupatin t brief fashin trends, all f it meaningful t the authr.
      23. The authr intrduces the tpic in Paragraph 1 by _____________.
      A. illustrating why it is imprtant t talk abut memir
      B. listing sme interesting facts and features f memir
      C. defining key terms that are discussed later in the passage
      D. making a cmparisn between autbigraphy and memir
      24. What des the underlined wrd “amplifies” in Paragraph 3 prbably mean?
      A. Cllects.B. Ignres.C. Absrbs. D. Enlarges.
      25. We can learn frm the passage that ______________.
      A. critics argue that a news stry by a jurnalist is fictin
      B. a memir authr’s memry can be influenced by the interviewees
      C. memir can’t shw readers facts abut what an authr experienced
      D. emtinal mments can cause the generatin f mre accurate memries
      26. Accrding t the passage, the authr believes ______________.
      A. the mst prfitable memirs are thse shwn t be the mst factual
      B. many authrs are untrustwrthy, althugh many memirs are fact-based
      C. memir is rightfully categrized under the umbrella f literary nn-fictin
      D. memry is t unreliable fr memir t be cnsidered a type f nn-fictin
      D
One f the executives gathered at the Aspen Institute fr a day-lng leadership wrkshp using the wrks f Shakespeare was discussing the rle f Brutus in the death f Julius Caesar. “Brutus was nt an hnrable man,” he said. “He was a traitr. And he murdered smene in cld bld.” The agreement was that Brutus had acted with cruelty when ther ptins were available t him. He made a bad decisin, they said—at least as it was presented by Shakespeare—t take the lead in murdering Julius Caesar. And thugh ne f the executives acknwledged that Brutus had the gd f the republic in mind, Caesar was nevertheless his superir. “Yu have t understand,” the executives said, “ur plicy is t bey the chain f cmmand.”
During the last few years, business executives and bk writers lking fr a new way t advise crprate America have been expliting Shakespeare’s wisdm fr prfitable ends. Nne mre s than husband and wife team Kenneth and Carl Adelman, well-knwn advisers t the White Huse, wh started up a training cmpany called “Mvers and Shakespeares”. They are amateur Shakespeare schlars and Shakespeare lvers, and they have cmbined their passin and their high level cntacts int a management training business. They cnduct between 30 and 40 wrkshps annually, fcusing n half a dzen different plays, mstly fr crpratins, but als fr gvernment agencies.
The wrkshps all take the same frm, fcusing n a single play as a kind f case study, and using individual scenes as specific lessns. In Julius Caesar , fr example, Caesar’s sly prvcatin (狡诈的挑唆) f Brutus t take up arms against Caesar was the basis fr a discussin f methds f team building and grass rts rganising.
Althugh neither f the Adelmans is academically trained in literature, the prgrammes cntain plenty f Shakespeare traditin and backgrund. Their wrkshp n Henry V, fr example, includes a helpful explanatin f Henry’s winning strategy at the Battle f Agincurt. But they d cme t the text with a few biases (偏向): their reading f Henry V minimises his misuse f pwer. Instead, they emphasize the stry f the yuth wh seizes pprtunity and becmes a masterful leader. And at the wrkshp n Caesar, Mr. Adelman had little gd t say abut Brutus, saying “the nblest Rman f them all” culdn’t make his mind up abut things.
Many f the participants pinted t very specific elements in the play that they felt t be related. Caesar’s pride, which led t his murder, and Brutus’s mistakes in leading the traitrs after the murder, they said, raise vital questins fr anyne serving in a business: when and hw d yu resist the bss?
      27. Accrding t Paragraph 1, what did all the executives think f Brutus?
      A. Cruel. B. Superir.C. Hnrable.D. Obedient.
      28. Why d the Adelmans cnduct a wrkshp n Henry V?
      A. T encurage masterful leaders t plan strategies t win.
      B. T highlight the imprtance f catching pprtunities.
      C. T illustrate the harm f prejudices in management.
      D. T warn executives against pwer misuse.
      29. It can be inferred frm the passage that _____.
      A. the Adelmans’ prgramme prves biased as the rles f characters are maximized.
      B. executives feel bred with t many specific elements f Shakespeare’s plays.
      C. the Adelmans will make mre prfits if they are prfessinal schlars.
      D. Shakespeare has played an imprtant rle in the management field.
      30. The best title fr the passage is _____.
      A. Shakespeare’s plays: A lessn fr business mtivatin
      B. Shakespeare’s plays: An essential key t business success
      C. Shakespeare’s plays: Executives revlutinize wrking culture
      D. Shakespeare’s plays: Explring leadership in the crprate wrld
