Mre than 90 percent f glbal trade tday is carried ut thrugh ships — abut 53,000 business ships
trading internatinally. That number seems t increase quickly. A 2019 study, led by researchers at McGill
University in Canada, has predicted (预测) an increase in cean traffic f anything between 240 and 1209 percent
by 2050. In preparatin fr this increase, scientists and engineers arund the wrld are dealing with the difficult
questin f hw t navigate (航行) mre safely.
On the west cast f the US, ne such grup has a single target-whales. The regin is hme t nt nly busy
internatinal prts but als the rich feeding grunds f blue, humpback and fin whales. As a result f crssvers,
ship strikes are thught t be ne f the leading causes f death fr whale ppulatins.
Dr Briana Abrahms, a research eclgist at NOAA Fisheries’ Suthwest Fisheries Science Center, is
develping an app that will allw managers and ship members t be alarmed t the pssible lcatin f blue whales.
It is based n the grup’s new mdel which predicts whale mvements based n the ceangraphic cnditins.
“Ocean cnditins can change n a daily basis,” Abrahms explains. “We knw what cnditins the whales like, s
every single day we can lk at where thse cnditins are and predict where the whales will g.”
      第 5页/共 13页
Of curse, knwing where the whales are is hardly effective if captains ignre the infrmatin. Abrahms
admits that vluntary slw-dwn plans fr large ships n the east cast f the US (slwer ships being less likely t
kill whales) have seen lw levels f bedience (遵守). Her hpe is that mre accurate data will encurage wners
and managers t respnd. “Part f the reasn we think fr the lw bedience is that there isn’t much cnfidence
amng the shipping industry. If yu say ‘slw dwn between July and Nvember’, the shipping industry desn’t
believe that there is actually a whale there. By making it mre accurate in predicting whales, we’re hping ur app
      will help,” Abrahms said.
      8. Why des the authr mentin the 2019 study in Paragraph 1?
      A. T tell the imprtance f shipping industry.
      B. T shw the fast increase in glbal trade.
C T predict cean traffic in the fllwing years.
      D. T explain the necessity f ensuring sailing safety.
9 What’s the app designed fr?
      A. Cunting the number f whales.
      B. Telling pssible lcatins f whales.
      C. Predicting the cnsequence f ship strikes.
      D. Frecasting the ceangraphic cnditin.
      10. What’s Abrahms attitude twards the present slw-dwn plans?
      A. Critical. B. Psitive.
      C. Cncerned. D. Unclear.
      11. What is the text mainly abut?
      A. Ways t avid crssvers between ships and whales.
      B. Methds f predicting severe weather.
      C. Imprtance f rescuing wildlife in the sea.
      D. Challenges f keeping a crrect vyage.

With the rapid develpment f artificial intelligence, DeepSeek, a Chinese AI cmpany, has appeared as a
pineer in educatinal technlgy. Its latest mdel, DeepSeek-R1, cmbines advanced machine learning methds
t prvide persnalized learning slutins fr students wrldwide.
      第 6页/共 13页
Unlike traditinal AI mdels that depend n pre-prgrammed answers, DeepSeek-R1 uses reinfrcement (强
化) learning t drive human lgical thinking. This allws it t guide students thrugh prblem-slving step by step,
much like a patient teacher. Fr example, when a student struggles with a math equatin, DeepSeek-R1 desn’t just
give the answer, it breaks dwn the lgic, identifies mistakes, and encurages critical thinking.
The mdel’s applicatins reach beynd academic (学术的) areas. In language learning, it analyzes students’
prnunciatin thrugh AI speech recgnitin and ffers real-time respnses. Fr teachers DeepSeek-R1 can make
lessn plans in line with curriculum standards and even predict students’ learning difficulties based n histrical
data. Its “adaptive testing” feature creates persnalized quizzes that adjust difficulty accrding t individual
      prgress.
Hwever, challenges remain. Critics argue that ver-dependence n AI might reduce human interactin in
educatin. DeepSeek’s develpers address this by stressing its rle as an “additin, nt a replacement.” As Dr. Li, a
DeepSeek researcher, stated. “Our gal is t free teachers frm rutine tasks s they can fcus n inspiring
      creativity.”
Lking ahead, DeepSeek aims t cmbine virtual reality (VR) and its platfrm, enabling students t explre
histrical events r scientific cncepts in engaging 3D envirnments. While ethical (伦理的) debates abut AI in
educatin cntinue t exist, ne thing is clear tls like DeepSeek are reshaping hw we learn, mixing technlgy
      with human wisdm
      12. What makes DeepSeek-R1 different frm traditinal AI mdels?
      A. It uses pre-prgrammed answers. B. It fcuses n memry techniques.
      C. It replaces teachers in classrms. D. It emplys reinfrcement learning fr lgical thinking.
      13. The underlined wrd “adaptive” in Paragraph 3 mst likely means ________.
      A. fixed B. adjustable C. appealing D. limitless
      14. What can be inferred abut DeepSeek’s future plans?
      A. VR technlgy will imprve interactive learning
      B. It will replace all classrm activities.
      C. It gives pririty t gains rather than educatinal values.
      D. Teachers will lse their jbs t AI.
      15. What is the main purpse f the passage?
      A. T recmmend DeepSeek prducts.
      B. T cmplain the risks f AI in schls.
      第 7页/共 13页
      C. T discuss AI’s rle in transfrming educatin.
      D. T cmpare different AI mdels.

It all began with a perfect gift. A cuple f mnths befre I started high schl, my parents gave me the

its screen. I held multi-day marathn messages with every friend t keep in cntact with them. I ignred my family
and my surrundings. Being cnnected was mre imprtant than being present.
S, I felt extremely displeased when I learned abut my father’s travel arrangements fr ur family vacatin
that year. “This year,” my dad said, “we’ll be ding smething special. We’re ging camping.”
His excitement was met with a disappinted sigh (叹气). But I wasn’t t annyed. It wasn’t my dream
vacatin, but it was still a vacatin. I remained uninfluenced thrughut the packing, planning and, f curse, the
instructins that went in ne ear and ut the ther. I fixed my mind n the screen in my hands s much that the first
time I raised my eyes was when we drve acrss a bridge n the way t ur campsite.
I stared ut the windw and saw a fast-mving river. The air blwing int the car was ht and smelled f trees.
But nne f that mattered t me. The reasn why I had lked up was fr smething far mre serius. Mre
shcking. My phne n lnger had service.
Then my dad revealed that he had chsen a destinatin where there was n phne signal, and my phne —
my lifeline — wuld be useless until we returned hme. I wuld be trapped in the frest fr fur days with n way
      t cntact the utside wrld.
On the first day, I shuted. I bargained. I begged. Hwever, nthing wuld add signal bars (信号条) t my
