A supermarket in Manchester, UK, has intrduced a “quiet hur” t assist autistic (患自闭症的) custmers. The ASDA branch in Cheetham Hill, led by manager Simn Lea, has created a special time during which the stre becmes much quieter and calmer. During this hur, escalatrs (手扶电梯) are stpped, in-stre music and televisins are turned ff, and the usual crwd and nise f the stre are minimized. This initiative aims t help peple wh are sensitive t nise and may find the typical shpping experience intense, especially thse with autism.
The idea fr this prject was brught ut when Simn witnessed a yung by having lst cntrl f emtins in the stre. The by, wh was with his mther, became upset by the lud nises arund him. Simn, wh saw the by’s mther lking terribly tired, ffered the child a ftball t calm him dwn. When the by started playing with the ball, his md immediately imprved. This mment inspired Simn t think abut hw the stre culd better supprt custmers with autism and ther sense-related issues.
Simn’s gal is t create a mre welcming envirnment fr everyne. He believes that the quiet hur will benefit nt nly peple with autism but als thse wh suffer frm anxiety r ther mental health cnditins, as he himself has struggled with anxiety in the past. The stre als prvides a special map fr autistic custmers, with pictures instead f wrds, t make it easier t get arund.
Tm Madders, Head f Campaigns at the Natinal Autistic Sciety said, “We are very pleased t hear that ASDA are intrducing a ‘quiet-hur’ in its Manchester stre. This initiative is a great example f an rganizatin taking the truble t understand hw autistic peple experience the wrld and we hpe ther businesses are inspired t fllw their example. ”
      24. Why is the “quiet hur” intrduced at ASDA?
      A. T imprve the stre’s efficiency.B. T attract mre custmers t the stre.
      C. T help peple wh are sensitive t nise.D. T ffer discunts fr special-needs custmers.

Research reveals that nt nly brain cells, but als cells frm ther bdy parts, can stre memries. This discvery ffers new insights int memry functin and ptential treatments fr memry-related issues, accrding t New Yrk University. The research aimed t explre whether nn-brain cells cntribute t memry by applying the massed-spaced effect — a principle suggesting that infrmatin is remembered better when learned ver multiple perids rather than thrugh intensive study in a single sessin.
In their study, published in Nature Cmmunicatins, scientists investigated tw types f nn-brain human cells in a labratry setting. These cells were expsed t varius chemical signals, similar t hw brain cells respnd t neurtransmitters (神经递质) during learning. In respnse, the nn-brain cells activated a “memry gene”— the same gene that brain cells use fr detecting patterns and restructure their cnnectins t frm memries. T mnitr this prcess, the researchers engineered the cells t prduce a flurescent prtein, allwing them t track when the memry gene was turned n r ff.
The results shwed that these cells culd detect repeated chemical signals, similar t neurtransmitter bursts in the brain, rather than extended nes. This mirrrs hw brain cells register learning with spaced breaks instead f learning everything all at nce. When signals were spaced ut, the “memry gene” was activated mre strngly and fr a lnger time than when delivered all at nce. “This reflects the massed-spaced effect,” says Kukushkin, a clinical assciate prfessr at NYU. “It shws that repeated learning is a fundamental prperty f all cells.”
“This discvery pens new drs fr understanding hw memry wrks and culd lead t better ways t enhance learning and treat memry-related issues,” bserves Kukushkin. “It als suggests that in the future, we may need t treat ur bdy like the brain, cnsidering hw systems such as digestin r cancer cells ‘remember’ patterns t regulate bld sugar r respnd t the pattern f cancer treatment. ”
      28. What des the massed-spaced effect illustrate?
      A. The brain stres memry during deep sleep.
      B. Spacing learning ver time imprves memry.
      C. Memry is stred nly when repeated cntinuusly.
      D. Learning everything in ne sessin reduces memry.
      29. What des the underlined phrase “flurescent prtein” refer t?
A A neurtransmitter prduced by brain cells.
      B. A type f chemical signal released by cells.
      C. A prtein fund nly in brain-related research.
      D. A substance that indicates active memry genes.
30 What can be learned frm the research in paragraph 3?
      A. All cells pssess the basic characteristic f repeated learning.
      B. Cells d nt respnd t chemical signals during learning.
      C. Intensive learning is mre effective than spaced learning.
      D. The brain nly uses extended bursts f neurtransmitters.
      31. What culd be a suitable title fr this article?
      A. Explring Memry Functin in the Brain.
      B. The Rle f Nn-Brain Cells in Memry Strage.
      C. Hw Brain Cells Detect Patterns during Learning.
      D. The Impact f Chemical Signals n Memry Frmatin.

Incredible new ec-friendly sensrs, inspired by spider silk and 50 times smaller than a human hair, culd be used in fields ranging frm healthcare mnitring t virtual reality. Develped by University f Cambridge researchers, these sensrs can be printed n bilgical surfaces, frm a human finger t a delicate flwer leaf. They are s lightweight that they can even be printed directly nt the sft seed head f a dandelin (蒲公英) withut cllapsing its structure. When printed n human skin, the fibre (纤维) sensrs fit the skin, expsing sweat tiny hles, making them undetectable t the wearer.
Tests n human fingers suggest these sensrs culd serve as cntinuus health mnitrs, prviding a less nticeable alternative t large wearables like smartwatches. “The cnnectin between the device and the surface is vital fr accurate sensing, ” said Prf. Yan Yan Shery Huang, wh led the research. She als stressed that bielectrnics shuld be unnticeable t users and envirnmentally sustainable. These sensrs can change hw we interact with the wrld, whether fr healthcare r enhancing virtual reality experiences.
Mst existing wearable sensr technlgies have limitatins, such as blcking air and liquids r relying n energy-and waste-intensive prductin techniques. Flexible electrnics, fr example, are ften printed n plastic films that restrict gas and liquid passage. The Cambridge team’s apprach slves this by using PEDOT: PSS, a suitable cnducting material mixed with hyalurnic (透明质) acid and plyethylene xide (聚乙烯氧化物). The bielectrnic fibres are created at rm temperature frm a water-based slutin, enabling precise cntrl ver their prperties.
These fibres can adapt t varius shapes, frm micr t macr size, withut requiring image recgnitin. Their prductin is less energy-intensive, and they generate less waste cmpared t traditinal sensrs. The fibres are als repairable and can be washed away when n lnger needed. Lking frward, the team plans t incrprate additinal functinal materials int this fibre printing methd, ptentially allwing fr integrated fibre sensrs with display, cmputatin, and energy cnversin capabilities.

Tngai quickly used his belt t secure Arya and swam back twards the shre with all his strength.
Once Arya was safely n the shre, Tngai’s muscles burned with tiredness. Every breath was a struggle, but he knew he culdn’t leave Clair behind. Withut a secnd thught, he turned and swam back int the waves. The sea seemed t fight him even harder but he was determined.

“This discvery pens new drs fr understanding hw memry wrks and culd lead t better ways t enhance learning and treat memry-related issues” bserves Kukushkin.
      A. A neurtransmitter prduced by brain cells.
      B. A type f chemical signal released by cells.
      C. A prtein fund nly in brain-related research.
      D. A substance that indicates active memry genes.
      30. What can be learned frm the research in paragraph 3?

      考查状语从句的省略。句意:《北京中轴龙脉之钟》反映了谭盾对中国悠久历史的深刻敬仰,同时也展现了传统与现代之间的联系。while引导的时间状语从句中用现在进行时,用it指代The Ancient Bells f Peking’s Central Axis,因此while引导的从句是while it is als illustrating,状语从句中主语和主句的主语一致,且从句中有be动词时,可省略从句中的主语和be动词,因此空格处是illustrating。
故填was drawn。
