Exams never made me break ut in a nervus sweat — but this ne did. Even bking my pian exam reduced me t a mess f anxiety.
I feel permanently scared inside churches, where pian exams are held — n lnger admiring their beauty because ver the years I have received terrible marks frm examiners. Despite being 15 — t ld, t cl t be frightened — I remember trembling inside the bathrm befre my tests. I wished I never had t play in frnt f thers.
This time, after bking my Level 8 Ryal Cnservatry f Music pian exam, I went back t my nrmal rutine. A little practice here; a little practice there. And then it happened. My trusty, 10-year-ld electric pian gave ut. When I tld my father what had happened t my pian, he nly glared at me with disappintment, “When I was yur age, I learned t be resurceful.”
Hmm. I had a brken pian, an exam cming up in a few mnths and a father wh refused t buy me a new pian because he wanted t teach me a “life lessn”. I finally came up with a decisin I’d practice at schl.
The schl had many pians but nly a few in tune. Within a few days f searching, I headed ff t a music rm at every available pprtunity. I lved finding new pians in hidden crners f the schl and spent hurs practicing.
As my exam drew near, all the music teachers knew t lk fr me in the pian rms after schl. In anticipatin f my assessment, ne f my music teachers let me perfrm fr her as a mini practice exam. T my surprise, she was greatly impressed.
Music had never been the lve f my life but that was changing. When I played, my wrries abut hw thers judged me and hw I viewed myself merged t reveal wh I really am. All my adlescent thughts made me feel like I was in a cage, but music gave me the key.
Within a few mnths I went frm nt caring abut my playing t feeling actually kind f prud f my wrk. In my favrite, sundprf music rm, I discvered that behind the pian, I culd becme anyne. Talking t ther peple never came easy t me, but I was able t express myself thrugh music. I became verjyed.
When the time came t play in frnt f an examiner, all the anxiety I had abut ging up n stage dimmed, and all I culd think abut was the marvelus jurney I’d had t get here. Trilling the keys reminded me f the bittersweet music experiences f past years and my happiness nwadays.
Many days later, I received my mark — a rarely mentined “well dne”. Nw whenever I get caught up in the daily struggle, I remember the hard wrk that it tk t reach my gal. Whenever I feel discuraged, I never frget t lk at the gleaming keys f my new upright pian. As my father always says, sme lessns are just learned the hard way.

In the pinin f sme peple, the mst direct, mst tuching, and easiest way f prtecting wild animals, withut dubt, is “the rescue f each individual wild animal”. On seeing a recvered bird return t the blue sky, they will feel mved with ht tears in the eyes.
Hwever, what is very easily ignred by them is that the value f prtecting each individual wild animal usually des nt lie in the individual wild animal itself but mre frequently in the entire species behind each individual. In this aspect, this is different frm the rescue f weak individuals in the human sciety.
There are many differences between animals and human beings. Accrding t bilgist Richard Dawkins, the biggest difference pssibly lies in that animals are shrt f scial culture. But here, the culture refers t “the behavir pattern having nthing t d with heredity (遗传), but which may be cpied and inherited (继承)”.
Human beings depend n culture fr heritage. As time passes by, the culture has been accumulated t distinguish ne grup frm anther. Therefre, the prtectin f culture is imprtant and necessary. Hwever, wild animals depend n genes fr heritage, and therefre, it is imprtant and necessary t keep natural genes in existence. As lng as wild animals can pass genes dwn, the entire species survive.
Therefre, wild animals value mstly lies in its gene, and the existence f the species is mre imprtant. The individual death cannt be avided, but the gene may exist frever thrugh the gene bank f the species, keeping the species existent.
When we prtect wild animal individuals, this is mre a measure than a gal. Therefre, the Yellwstne Park has intrduced the wlf t cntrl the number f deer and get rid f the ld, weak, sick and disabled. Such behavir is beynd imaginatin amng human beings, but in the nature, this is cmpletely nrmal and reasnable. We ften bserve wild animals with the judgment that we may have t human beings, ignring their differences.
But if species itself is nt in danger, then wrking hard t prtect the individual can d nthing gd t the entire species. Of curse fr ther reasns, we still hpe t prtect these individuals frm death, but this des nt belng t the narrw sense f animal prtectin.
      41. In the pinin f Richard Dawkins, wild animals are different frm human beings because ________.
      A. they depend n culture fr existence in the wrld
      B. they have prer scial culture than human beings
      C. they have n behavir pattern related t heredity
      D. they can cpy r inherit smething frm their parents
      42. Accrding t the text, hw shuld we prtect wild animals?
      A. By making their natural genes exist frever.
      B. By prtecting every wild animal frm death.
      C. By saving weak animal individuals.
D By passing the law t frbid killing wild animals.
      43. The authr uses the example f the Yellwstne Park in rder t shw ________.
      A. prtecting wild animals is ur gal
      B. hw t kill thse ld, weak, sick and disabled deer
      C. prtecting wild animal individuals is nt a gal
      D. hw t keep the balance between different species
      44. The text is mainly develped by________.
A giving examplesB. prviding the explanatin
      C. analyzing causesD. making cmparisns
      45. Which wrd can best describe the authr’s attitude twards the measure f prtecting deer?
